Ingredients:
- 300g Flour
- 80g Dried Milk Powder
- 80g Sugar
- 50ml Melted Butter
- 1 Tbsp Nutmeg
- 1 Tsp Baking Powder
- 2 Eggs
- A Bit of Water (for binding the dough)
- Some Flour (for rolling the dough)
Directions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, dried milk powder, sugar, nutmeg, and baking powder. Mix these dry ingredients together thoroughly to ensure even distribution of flavor.
- Create a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the melted butter. Using your hands or a spatula, mix the butter into the dry ingredients until you get a crumbly texture.
- Beat the eggs and gradually add them to the mixture, using your hands to bring the dough together. If the dough feels too dry, add a bit of water, one tablespoon at a time, until it becomes smooth and pliable.
2. Roll and Cut the Dough:
- Lightly dust a clean surface with flour. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Using a knife, pizza cutter or a dough cutter, cut the rolled dough into small strips, squares, rectangles, or diamond shapes, depending on your preference. Keep the pieces small so they’ll fry evenly and get that perfect crunch.
3. Fry the Chin Chin:
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until it’s hot (but not smoking). To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of dough in; it should sizzle and float to the top.
- Fry the Chin Chin in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Stir occasionally so they cook evenly and achieve a golden brown color.
- Once fried to perfection, remove the Chin Chin and drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
4. Let Cool and Serve:
- Allow the Chin Chin to cool completely before serving. Once cooled, they’ll become extra crunchy and ready to enjoy!
- Store in an airtight container to maintain their crispiness for days (if they last that long!).
Tips for the Perfect Chin Chin:
- For extra flavor, you can add vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon.
- Ensure the oil is at the right temperature to avoid soggy or overcooked Chin Chin.
These tasty, crunchy bites are perfect for snacking on throughout the day or serving to guests at any gathering. Whether you're new to Nigerian cuisine or a Chin Chin lover, this recipe is a must-try!
