Today I'm showing you how to make cake bath bombs or bath bomb cakes. The options are endless. Make any theme like birthday, wedding, graduation, bachelorette, etc.
RECIPE:
2 cups (500 grams) baking soda, 1 cup (200 grams) citric acid, 1/2 cup (60 grams) corn starch,
16 milliliters fragrance oil, 8 milliliters polysorbate 80, 12 milliliters carrier oil (I used grapeseed), 16 milliliters water or liquid color The recipe given is the maximum amount the cake mold can hold. You can definitely add less mix (you don’t have to make/use the entire recipe). NOTE: The more mix you add, the taller the cake will be BUT the harder it will be to mold.
UNICORN CAKE: I made 1/4 the recipe for each color (pink, purple, blue) & added a few drops of liquid colorant to the wet ingredients. This is why the cake is shorter than the gold.
DIRECTIONS
Sieve dry ingredients together & mix thoroughly. Add wet ingredients to separate a container & mix thoroughly. Always add mica to wet ingredients to reduce airborne particles. Add wet ingredients slowly to dry while whisking. Now thoroughly mix & knead the batch with your hands.
MOLDING
If you want, evenly coat the inside of the mold & add eco friendly decoration. Fill the mold half way then pack it. Fill it the rest of the way then pack it well (place mold on ground & use your weight to pack it). Tap the mold thoroughly, then lift it up just a bit & continue tapping until the bomb releases. Dry bomb 24 hours.
DECORATION
There are many options to choose from. You can air brush it; add dry mica; splatter, drizzle, or paint it with wet mica; apply ecofriendly glitter; add bubble bath/wafter paper flowers; add sugar sprinkles, & more. Seriously, the options are endless!
PACKAGING
I recommend a box that is 7x7x3 (width x length x height). The size of the interior mold is 6x6x3 & I found that exact size on Amazon (linked below). A little bit bigger box would be better though, especially if you pipe on the sides. I'll keep looking!
A FEW IDEAS
My next cake is going to be very elegant. A white cake, lightly airbrushed with pearl & shimmering micas, & piped bubble bath frosting flowers on top... I may even add some fancy piping around the edges, who knows! It could get pretty insane! Another idea is a flaming hot pink cake with gold décor & gold splatters/drizzles. How fun! Another idea is to make an actual birthday cake with piped words, confetti, & those little mini plastic balloons. Again, the options are endless!
