At the machine shop in my school one of the projects you make is a stabilizer and one thing that is a great idea is fill them with cut of bouncy balls. they absorb almost all vibrations and theyre super cheap

I made one from a take down alloy cleaning rod for a shot gun, already has a threaded end. 15” long with some weight stuck on the end. Works a treat!

Looks like a nice stabilizer. Nice craftsmanship.

At this price point we could all make several stabilizers at different lengths to see which one works best. I'm still messing with my own for my Samick Sage to try & get it to thrust forward a bit more upon release. I'm using automotive sticky wheel weights at the end to get the length & weight nailed down.

Really ingenuous using that broom handle! Well done young man! Really well done! I'm going to develop me one as well, those shots of arrow groupings was enough to get me to throw ten bucks at one! Lol

Sweet i did the same thing but put a weight in the end. Then welded a bolt and a rounded off nut to the end to connect to my bow. And welded 2 metal rigs on the oppisite end so it looks like a doinker but i painted mine olive drab and a lighter green. Looks like a good camo

Could try filling a tube with silicone sealant if its not too long. Adds a little weight and will absorb shock but alot smaller

You know that you can buy carbon tubing 4ft section is around 30 to 40 bucks. I made a 33inch front bar and an 15in back bar.they both work great even with 30oz on the back

not really sure if i could do anything to limit the wobble of the PVC. my groups are pretty much the same with the steel as well as with the PVC, and to be honest, i like the way my PVC one turned out and i actually use the PVC one. the wobble only happens for a second on the draw and again after the arrow has completely left the bow. the wobble doesn't seem to have much of an affect.

Went and bought everything today and was amazed that it only cost me $14. I'll be putting it together tomorrow. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this step by step vid. Saw your thread in AT as well haha. BTW you kinda sound like Brady Ellison @ 3:12 o.o

Great video ... could just have cut out 98% of the bit you're stuffing the tube ;-) I suppose one could add another bolt on the other end for attaching additional weights ...

@AndrevanTonder67 yeah, i know. but i did it all from my iphone and leaving it in there was much easier.

Thanks for posting the vid. I really like your DIY stab, the cost & that it doesn't take expensive tools (I'm sure a $5 hacksaw would work if I didn't have a Dremel). Could you have done something with PVC that might have reduced the wobble? Why do you think the paint extension handle worked better than PVC [rigidity of steel, weight of steel or what]? Did the PVC stabilizer help you with your groups the way this steel stabilizer does?

I found out some stabilizers go for about 300bucks! Crazy and not worth it imo. This is an idea I've had for some time.

To give you a better understanding of the weights and length of a stabilizer I will go into more detail. A lot of target shooters use longer stabilizers and back bar or V-bar(2 back bars instead of one) to adjust their bows so they hold or settle into the shot how they want them to. You can adjust how your bow moves after the shot by moving weight around on the different stabs front and rear. If you're shooting off to the left/right/up/or down it can be adjusted without moving your sight. Sometimes I might not be holding as well and that little adjustment brings me back into the target how I want and a 1/2 ounce or 1 ounce weight can make a huge difference in how your bow shoot and reacts to the shot. Most hunters use stabilizers to kill sound created by the vibrations that is caused when the bow is shot. Some will use a backbar setup to help balance their bow so it stays level and don't get tilted to much by the quiver full of arrows or how they hold the bow. How the bow rests in your hand is extremely important as you should not "hold" the bow and if you are you will hit your arm and cause unnecessary torque on it that will not allow you to shoot as good as you can. This can be a very complicated thing until you get used to it but it can make you a lot better shooter is you learn the right way from the get go.

lol.. while there are ways to diy a stabilizer, this guy seems to believe that a stabilizer's only purpose is to be a counter weight. first the attachment to the bow is through only pvc.. the stabilizer is only as rigid as its least rigid part,, he might as well make the whole thing out of pvc. second, wth is up with the packing peanuts.. there are tons of cheap things (cut up super balls packed tight being amongst the cheapest that will actually absorb some vibration) that you could stuff in there that would actually absorb some vibration... styro is not one of those things.. While I will not pay several hundred for a good stabilizer, I also would not put this flimsy garbage on my bow.. (Nothing here is meant to be a stab at the OP, only his poorly implemented idea..)

the guy that posted this vid knows nothing about archery or the technology that goes into making a stabilizer. This vid is pretty funny though
@tomatodragon318
@tomatodragon318 8 лет назад
yeah this useless expensive technology is created to take out 200 dollars from your pocket for one dumb weight that you can create by yourself. Like sights 150 dollars sights triggers expensive too. You can buy a 70 dollars bow or make a PVC one that will do the same job. People are just crazy. .. . . .. . . . . . .. . .. . . . . .
@kaylabennett8704
@kaylabennett8704 8 лет назад
ha ha ha ....ignorance must be bliss! given the fact that you believe a stabilizer is just a dumb weight that can be recreated with cheap household items and produce the same results, shows just how little you know of stabilizers and their functions. Yes, the upgraded parts that you can put on a bow are expensive, but those upgraded parts are called upgrades for a reason. They are designed to improve fuctions and mechanics of shooting, which you cant get with the basic starter parts. Archery is an expensive and demanding hobby/sport which requires time, dedication and lots of money. The r&d that these upgraded parts are reflected in the pricing of said parts and show in the performance increase that is proven over and over. It sounds to me like your problem isn't in the technological edge that upgraded bow parts offer. Your problem is, simply, you cant afford to pay the price for the performance upgrade...and theres nothing wrong with that, we all feel the burn in our pockets after any archery purchase. The difference is you simply don't have a grasp or clear understanding of what, exactly, you are paying for and what it does.

1 indian with primitive bow can shoot 12341241234 times better than a modern archerBla bla bla money money if i speak to a dumb american i surrender to talk..(waste of time). Archery is 70000 years old the modernism and your money washed brains are a quite big trouble. Money can`t buy accuracy, if you are dumb washed brain
