This DIY archery stabilizer and side bar build will help improve aiming, balance, and shot accuracy. Typical hunting style stabilizers provide noise and vibration reduction, but little else. Field and Stream ran an article showing that longer stabilizers can have a dramatic effect on long range accuracy compared to short stabilizers or no stabilizers at all: www.fieldandstr...
For short range shooting, a long front and side bar could be more hassle to carry around than it's worth. However, for longer shooting, there are certainly benefits. Making your own can save a tone of money compared to store bought systems which are commonly over $200. For more background information about stabilizer adjustment and fine tuning, see the following article: www.archerylear...

You've touched on a subject close to my heart as I used to shoot archery 25 yrs ago when stabilizers were a tenth of the cost of today's stabilizers. It's crazy how much manufacturers charge for a 'weight bar'. I no longer have access to machining equipment unfortunately. This is a great video, thank you. Happy Easter. Scott

Not sure if this comment is still relevant lol but stabilizers are cheap until you get into carbon, which is expensive.

Garrett, your videos are perhaps the most helpful videos for the self-learning hunter. Every time I wonder about some topic and search YT for the answer, invariably you already have addressed it in a video. Even if I don't build a stabilizer like this from scratch, this video is an excellent resource for developing an optimal setup. Thank you for sharing it.

I know this is an old vid, but I’m going to comment anyways. Lol. I don’t know how many times you said 5/16” Bolt, but for some reason I put a 10/24” pack in my cart at McMaster car. Lol. I’m building a 15” for hunting/3D and will probably upgrade to a larger one later for a target bow. An interesting part of why I decided to use your design was the fact the front weld but has the same threads as the bow riser. So theoretically, you can always thread in another section and have multiple pieces that make a larger one. I’m going to use the front for weights and for Turkey season I’ll attach a string tracker to the front.

Nice, an Invasion CPX! Some Bowtech bows are fantastic, I think that one was one of them. Personally I have a Prodigy and I love it. Cool stabilizer setup!

I feel like it might be easier and cheaper to make something like a Bee Stinger Slide, with similar benefits. Preferably maxing out the lengths allowed on IBO / ASA bowhunter classes. Edit: Looks like the only thing that needs to be figured out is the bracket from the stabilizer bolt to a pipe clamp. I found B Stinger's dovetail version, but that's still silly expensive.

What about placing a plastic/Teflon washer along with your metal one against your riser to eliminate metal on metal contact with your riser mount for your backbar.

+Boundless Obsession That should also work well and reduce risk of marring the surface.
