How to Make a Carpet Extractor using a Wet Dry Vacuum. Below are amazon links to as many part used as I could find. You can get anything else at Home Depot and harbor freight. ** the Orange 3/8” air hose was only used from the air gun forward because I couldn’t fit the pressure washer nozzles in the blue 1/4” no matter what I did (heated, oiled, etc) I wanted it all to be 1/4” but I’ll live with it. ** also the Ridgid 1 1/4” hose end screws off clockwise.

You're spot on about the head needing to be clear! I bought a wide nozzle to use with my Rigid shop vac to suck moisture from seats recently and because it wasn't clear, I really had no idea how much water it was sucking and how dirty it was

If you drill a couple or 3 vent holes in the nozzle you will get a better flow of air through the nozzle ( not sure if that makes sense or not)

I know exactly what you mean. It’s the same as when u lift the nozzle off the carpet and the air rushes in and all the water quickly disappears.

The only thing is the shop vac’s have a water lift of around 50” while the carpet extractor’s have a water lift of around 100” or greater. That’s because of the one stage motor. It’d be cool if you could replace the original motor with a $150 3-stage motor.

Have you perfected this yet? I used the 40 pressure washer tip and it splatters to much and does not cover the whole nozzle. I'm getting about 1.75 quarts per minute @ 40psi and I think it's too much water. I have also tried a red and yellow backpack sprayer tip and it's slightly better but still no winner.
@bigpete405
@bigpete405 4 года назад
I have it where I like it I’m using a 2.0 orifice 40 degree nozzle. It definitely puts out a good amount of water and gets the job done. I agree it can be a bit to much water if you’re not careful. I’ll make another video soon trying out different nozzles and flow rates. I’ve just been so backed up the past few months I haven’t had much time

@bigpete405

U have to get a diaphragm pump or a pressure activated pump and hook it up to your water tank. On amazon they’re about $100. SEAFLO 110V 3.3 GPM 45 PSI Water Diaphragm Pressure Pump - 4 Yea... $99.99 Free Shipping for Prime Members look that one up.
@AMindInOverdrive
@AMindInOverdrive 3 года назад
Really, you can simplify this by using a pressure (pump) sprayer to wet the seats, and just buy a clear vac head on Amazon with a shop vac. All the extractor really is, is a wet/dry vac with a spray nozzle
@bigpete405
@bigpete405 3 года назад
I know what you’re thinking but it’s not the same. U need the water to soak the fabric and basically loosen the dirt just prior to the suction. If you spray down and allow it to sit it will seep into the cushion material and that’s when mold can form if they don’t dry properly.. I’m going to make some really good videos soon. I have a designated hot water line in my garage just for this setup now so I can test all the extractor setups

I don't see a big advantage to this vs buying the stainless steel upholstery wand from amazon, other than having a section of clear pipe to see what is going through it. Maybe it's worth the effort for that?
@bigpete405
@bigpete405 4 года назад
I can tell You this from full experience. The clear plastic really allows you to know when the upholstery is clean. I have the stainless one from amazing with the clear window and it doesn’t give u an accurate visual. The stainless one is easy to use and hooks right up to the vacuum as well. I’ll try to make a video showing both

Hose clamp replacements... Skip hose clamps and go with a basic stainless steel wire clamp tool like the ClampTite. There will be nothing to catch or damage house/car trim or flesh. Oh, and making a ClampTite clone on the cheap is pretty simple: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5w1_9IkeRmQ.html

No sweat! Wire clamps are da bomb for the in-the-know fabricator/fixer. Over the years I've been given a half-dozen or so pneumatic air hose lines by roofers and such. Once they rip or develop leaks, the repair involves a male/male brass fitting and two hose clamps. Well, it doesn't take long before they throw the hose away since the hose clamps catch on *everything*. However, with the wire clamps... Those connections catch on nothing. Hell, just this last week I was up on the roof installing some D-ring fall arresting anchors. I ran one of those spliced-numerous-times hoses through my hands with no worries about torn flesh or damaged roofing shingles because of hose clamps. If you've worked with safety wire before, it shouldn't take long to wire clamp something successfully and make it look positively factory. If you've never worked with safety wire before, stick with it until mastered. If there's one bit of advice I can give, it's dress, dress, dress, that wire as you tighten it. Happy fabricating!
