I made these today as my first DIY bath project (but with different EOs because I don't have Fir or Spruce yet) and I am so in love!! I usually have dry skin that needs to be moisturised the minute I get out of the shower or bath but not after this one, plus I didn't feel anywhere near my slippery death so yay! Also, I've recently fallen into the DIY skincare ++ rabbit hole and have been digging deep xD. Your website, videos and resources are my absolute favourite. Thank you so much for everything you have shared, I really appreciate the thought and care you have clearly put in to make your information as user friendly as possible.

What a great idea. Be cool to make some that release glitter. And make about 15-20 different scents and colours and have it as a pick and mix if you make to sell.
@HumblebeeAndMe

Hmm, yeah.... I'm thinking about the sort of mould you'd need. I suppose it would probably be easiest to suspend a bunch of glitter in a ball of bath melt base, and then encase that ball in a larger mould 🤔

Try using polysorbate 80. It also combines the oil with water. It's probably cheaper then waxes too. You could also add some baking soda to help it solidify. Seen some other comments after I made mine.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 лет назад
Polysorbate 80 is also liquid, and we need these to be solid. Enough PS80 to solubilize these fats would result in bath goo instead of bath melts :P

Thank you for all your wonderful recipes and being so gracious to share them with us all. i cannot wait for your book! i am so excited!! huge fan!!! these were so lovely. i made them after first seeing your recipe. my skin felt so luxurious.. i have a couple off topic questions. 1. I grow cucumbers in my garden and two of them seemed to have gotten too much water, or on the vine too long because they dont look so great:( almost a bit gross😝lol. they are yellow, fat, and one has small cracks. i dont want to just throw them out, but definitely dont want to eat them. i usually make a toner out of the hydrosol i make out of them, or blend them up to make masks and eye masks. my question is, do you think it would be ok for me to use these with the way they turned out for some sort of beauty concoction?lol 2. can you please do a video of that trans. powder creme from your blog? i would really love to see you in action making it and how it looks.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 7 лет назад
Hey Kat! I'm no gardener, so I really don't know. Probably? Just do be aware that anything using fresh botanicals should be used up within a day or two-concotions made from fresh fruit and veg and pretty much impossible for the home DIYer to preserve properly. I'd probably stick to single-use face masks or perhaps even soap-you could puree it up with some water and use that for the lye water (I'm guessing it'll turn brown, though, as most fruits/veg do when mixed with NaOH). Which recipe is my Trans Powder Creme?
@kathryncastanares525
@kathryncastanares525 7 лет назад
Humblebee & Me You are so right! when i first got into "DIYing", i thought i could make an 'all natural toner and just after like two weeks, it went bad. what happened was i followed this tutorial of another youtuber and she said that vitamin e will preserve it.lol thank goodness i didnt use it after the first day. i honestly forgot about it right after.lol and thank goodness ive found you!! someone i know that will give me all the correct info and the best recipes! anyhoo, i havent tried to make anything food related last no more than 1 to maybe 2 times.lol thank you so much for getting back to me about this because you gave me the most wonderful idea of how to use them! i just got started making home made soap from scratch and adding them to the lye sounds like it could work! ive only been making m&p so im excited to give this a shot for and experimental first try with extra ingredients.lol they are bad per say, they just arent beautiful green.lol so, fingers crossed. thank you so much again!

Have you thought of upgrading this formula? I just tried it as I want to make bath melts with eucalyptus in for winter, but they don't emulsify at all, unless I use boiling water and then there are "flakes" of butter on the surface. Is there anything that would make them emulsify better? Use more emulsifier maybe? TIA

@TheLoveOfNikki

Always go with harder butters in the summer such as cocoa butter or kokum butter. Even if use mix with soft butters, make the recipe where the amount of hard butters outweigh the soft. Maybe like a 60hard/40soft butter ratio

is polysorbate 80 acceptable as an emulsifier
@kathryncastanares525
@kathryncastanares525 7 лет назад
msway0603 Not for this recipe. The BTMS-50 is used to not only to emulsify the oils and disperse them in the bath water, but also it replaces the beeswax which solidifies the little bath melts. Poly20&80 are liquid and would not create a solid bath melt. You can make a lovely bath oil with them though! Im sure you already know Marie "gots the goodz" with recipes.lol

@bjflinn1

Personally I think you could. The bath melts I've made in the past have never included a wax because the cocoa butter keeps everything solid enough and let's it easily melt. You'd have to play with the ratio to make sure it would still solidify and be enough to work in the bath. Though I prefer bath truffles that uses citric acid and baking soda to help everything disperse quickly in the water.

I loved the idea of creamy bath melts because I hate taking a nice relaxing bath - - and then have to clean the tub. So I made some today using shea butter (10g's) and mango butter (20g's) w/BTMS 50 (10g's). The problem is mine wouldn't melt in the hot water. I made them about 1/2 a teaspoon sized, so they weren't too big, and I used some pretty hot bath water. They just got really gummy and I'm afraid will clog drains. How do I solve that problem?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 7 лет назад
Hey Leigh! Have you tried smooshing them up with your fingers a bit before dropping them in the water? You could also try pre-melting them in extra hot water before adding them to your bath if that's not working :)

@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 лет назад
Shea butter has a melting point of 37°C, while coconut oil has a melting point of 24°C. The melting point of these is quite carefully balanced, and this swap will lower it and make for a softer final product. You can try, but they may not set up well.

There are various kinds of emulsifying waxes. Are you using what is generally referred to as "e-wax"?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 7 лет назад
Yes, I'm aware of that. The video lists the different specific trade/product names of several different kinds of emulsifying wax you can use, including the one I am using (Emulsifying Wax NF). Any good supplier should not be selling anything just called "e-wax" as that gives you basically no information about it and whether or not it would work (I've seen some "emulsifying waxes" that are just single fatty acids that would not work at all in any recipe that required a complete emulsifying wax!). It would be sort of like selling a "vegetable"... not helpful if you need a pepper but end up getting celery!
