You need a really ULTRAFINE powder of graphite or better a intercalation graphite. The polystyrene is only like binder and for this reason you need to make the right concentration of graphite powder/polystyrene (add more graphite). And to finish,... if you got the possibility to using a presses machine. I use a press machine and I press the electrodes with couples of bars. The graphite in polystyrene cannot conduct very well if it ist not good compressed!
ALTERNATIVE: Try to make some bioplastic from milk! In warm milk you add some acid and graphite powder! But dont forget to press the material.
Simiral binder: polyurethane

This acetone method will also work for ABS, and a few other thermoplastics. Remember graphite will actually work better than graphene for electrical conductivity under the same loading due to the "card stacking" of the material. Graphene will disperse in between the polymer chains, but not conduct as well.

Why wouldn't it conduct as well? Graphene is much smaller, allowing for a higher "card stacking" effect if proper amounts of graphene are used in the process. Graphene should produce more conductive and stronger materials.

What is the liquid you used to dissolve the polystyrene? Was it acetone ? What temperature Can this method resist?

Acetone yes! The temperature is similar to the polysterene.

+ehochimalpi if you use a really ultrafine graphene/graphite powder or GIC graphite and if you can press the electrode really hard,.... you can get 5 - 10 ohms or lower.

+overunitydotcom OMG,..... sorry man, I mean 50 - 10 ohms. but you need to use a really ultrafine powder and you need to really hard to press a electrode.

Iorgulescu Laurentiu yes it helps to polarise the graphene/graphite and create current paths...it would probably also work with lower voltage but you could cook the goop and start it bubbling if too much current flows.

What temperature this conductive plastic can withstand .. Because batteries become hot during operations

The temperature is the temperature of Polystyrene. Which is around 200 - 240 deg C. Yes,... some batteries can get hot to max 50 deg. If the battery get higher temperature, then is something is wrong.

Have you tried to use Bioplastics ?Then you would not need hazardous Acetone which also stinks...but then the electodes are probably not water resistant ,right ?

+cayrex2 yes or from Starch...it is very cheap and does not stink like Acetone the only problem is, that it is soluable again in water. ...but you could try to mix it also with acrylic binder which is water resistant when it has cured and hardened... do you get also around 5 Ohms per cm resistance or more ? Try to smear this onto stailess steel mesh metal as the pickup electrode, so your resistance will be less than 1Ohm...

So you could use the styrofoam as a shearing medium to seperate the layers of graphite and then simple burn away the polymer with only graphene/graphite and carbon as the remaining peoduct ! And boil your kettle at the same time !👍🏻

did you know that in fact diamonds are really wothless? the price is driven high by a worldwide kartel + worldwide ad-campain. I mean wimen dont use the rings as tools so the hardness doesn't matter so Zikona is a much better choice (value for Money).

cayrex2 Thats my fault..Correction:My polyurethane is like the hot melt glue which is meltable by heat.Melts at 300 degrees celcius.So this will do the job when mixed with the graphite?

In water based electrolyte is good. When you make the electrodes out from this,... you need to press the material really good to lower the ohms

@@PhysicsViolator no problem. Also if you get high ohms from your material you can add more acetone and more graphite or graphene powder and then you press to make a electrode. If this is not helping then you also can add some copper plate on the top of this graphite plastic to get more current out from your cell.

for more conductivity you add more graphite,.... experiment with your ratio. the acetone will evaporate in the end.

Was looking into making graphene armor.. stumbled across this cool ass shit watching styrofoam melt!! I wonder if graphene will hold its honeycomb structure mixed in like that? Idk I will try to flatten it out and shoot it with different types of bullets and see if it holds any strength haha. Might be dumb but if it works I will shit my pants.

only acetone and graphite will not work. acetone is a solvent and not the binder. you need some binder that bind the graphite

yes, ABS is also good. acetone + graphite + blender, you "can" get some graphene, but will be low quality
