Join us for a dynamic duo of tasks as Robin and Clare dive headfirst into a weekend filled with garden guardianship and DIY dilemmas. With the garden in need of protection, they spend two days meticulously cutting down branches and crafting a dead hedge to shield their crops from harm. But with this task completed, they face the daunting prospect of chopping up dozens of trees for firewood in the coming week.
As bodies ache from the arduous tree surgery, Clare embarks on a secret project, adding an element of intrigue to our farmhouse renovation journey. Meanwhile, Robin takes on the challenge of budget DIY kitchen cabinets, armed with cabinet carcasses from BandQ. But navigating the labyrinth of flatpack assembly instructions proves to be a test of patience, as Robin wades through reams of chaos to decipher the construction process.
Join us as we navigate the highs and lows of homestead life, finding beauty in the simplicity of hard work and the satisfaction of DIY accomplishments.

Ahh bless you guys. Rob looked worn out. I remember when we had 3 trees down in the storm and just clearing 3 nearly saw Sam off. It's hard graft when you're only using what few tools you have at your disposal. The kitchen will look fab. Can't wait to see it. We used to rent a house from my mum's cousin's son, if that makes sense, in Myrtleville. I loved it there. Think that sparked my love of Ireland. ❤

Yes the old Lidl Parkside chainsaw has been put through it's paces, but you know what it's doing ok except for Rob having to mend the pull cord a few times🙈 Slowly slowly with the kitchen, i guess if you had someone put one in they would have it done in a day, but when its just the two of us, it takes time, time is so precious as you know 🙂

Can I suggest, if you hand 1/2 inch space behind the unit, use a 1x 3 across the back to hold the sides together. I’ve had similar cabinets and after a lot of use the hardware gets loose.

Hi there, good progress. Can I just say it might be better to use the Leylandii chippings for paths etc and possibly around the trees. I think you may have probs using them to earth up around the veg and potatoes as they may be too acidic. If you have loads the compost them with manure and use next year. Hope this helps.
@WestCorkWander
@WestCorkWander 23 дня назад
Thanks for the tips! Yes we are chipping like mad. Paths I think are a great idea. I have used alot over my first and second earlies as recommended by someone here so 🤞

How are you going to tape and joint, your ceiling with your cabinets in the way? One job at a time.
@WestCorkWander
@WestCorkWander 24 дня назад
Yes taping and mudding is next. We have not decided yet, but we may have a piece of wood matching the doors at the top of the cabinets, if not yes you are right it will be tricky, but we will have to see. Thanks for your concern 🙂

Job well done but do you ever notice ppl who come up with the idea of kitchen counters make them so low so when your using the counter there short or maybe it's me because I'm tall lol. Kinda like vent hoods over stoves short again ughhh. Have a great weekend ppls🙂
@WestCorkWander
@WestCorkWander 23 дня назад
Thank you for your comment. Yes we will definitely make the counter top as high as we can. We were a little disappointed with the fact the cooker can not be any higher than 93cm and of course we want it to be level with the counter. 🤞it will be ok.

Cookers are not normally put in with a window above for safety reasons. So wondered what your thoughts were. 🤨

@@WestCorkWanderI’m more worried about grease and food splatter on the window. Maybe it’s easy to clean🤔
@WestCorkWander
@WestCorkWander 23 дня назад
Also Rob tells me usually stoves especially gas shouldn't be in front of opening windows but as ours doesn't open it's compliant. As for splatter, yeah that could be a pain to clean, it is small and recessed... However rob (who does most cooking) hates frying anything indoors so be BBQ's 365 days a year, even does Xmas turkey on bbq!! So only ever be boiling and oven cooking so hopefully no splatter at all.

Why put your cooker under a window is it not health and safety and it also looks strange
@WestCorkWander
@WestCorkWander 9 дней назад
Issues only surround gas or solid fuel stoves and windows that open. It is different but way better than cooking at a stove and staring at a wall.
