A couple restoring and rebuilding our Irish Farmhouse, cottage and homestead in West Cork, Ireland. We live in a caravan on our land while we build our dream home, ourselves, debt-free.
We're Rob and Clare, a duo with two teens, a cat, and a dog. Leaving city life, we're tackling a derelict farmhouse in #WestCork, blending our IT careers with a lifestyle change.
Follow our journey from city to countryside, where we, with no farm experience, will revive a decaying farmhouse. With just over a year on the clock, each video captures the highs, lows, and unexpected turns.
Rob the countertops look awesome!! Clare, if you get an inexpensive paint primer and put that on before the actual paint, the drywall won’t suck up so much of the expensive paint!! Hopefully you haven’t gotten to the whole house and I could at least save you guys a few quid there! Also, I absolutely LOVE your garden and all the beautiful greenery. Love you guys! 😊💚
The countertops do look really great, and the whitewashed stone wall in your bedroom will brighten the room as well as making a lovely focal point. It must be really exciting to actually be doing more finishing off work. Your garden also looks super, everything seems to be doing well. My garden here is also moving along, much to the resident chipmunks delight. They always seem to know when my tomatoes are just right to eat, I’m forever having to remove evidence of them having had their share before we get ours. If they weren’t so darn cute and cheeky l would likely be more upset with them.
Aww wow those counter tops look so bloody amazing! 😍😍 The whole kitchen is going to be magazine worthy when you two are finished. There’s one shot on the video of Rob stood at the end of the counter and you see the counter tops, cabinets and then the stone wall too…looks stunning. You must be so pleased with how it is all looking! ❤
Wow thanks guys, yip we are happy with it. Rob is a UX designer so everything is built from a practicality point. It may not be a perfect finish but it's an airy, warm and productive space. It's a bonus that we are happy with how it turned out. It's amazing how a bit of white paint or limewash transform a room. We can't wait to limewash the rest of the house!
Guys! Love love the worktops. I think you are amazing doung those yourselves. Ps, that bath is my dream! What I wouldn't give for a bath right now. Bet you guys feel the same sometimes! Keep at it you're doing so amazing. ❤
Thanks guys, worktops were an experiment we really wanted to try, like most of the build! We have moved into the bedroom, and having a real bed is unreal, cannot believe we did 13 months in a caravan🙈, but the other half of the bedroom where the bath will be will not be finished until we have finished the upstairs in the old house, so I will be dreaming further of a bath 🤣
Left to do - the upstairs in the old house (two bedrooms, two ensuites and a small sitting room), electrics to be tested and connected, cabling to run to the pumphouse for solar/electricity and plenty of plumbing also 🤯, but having a bedroom and kitchen soon will really help our living conditions 😊
What I love about this channel is| No Pretence, No Crap, No Advertising, Honesty, Engagement, Fun, Humour, Lovely people exposing theselves to the world. I commend them for that. What I don:t like about this channel is the subbscriber numbers, come on guys and girls give them a boost. They have has the balls to show their journey, issues, naivity etc.
Put some paint on the cabinets that got damaged. That should keep them from absorbing moisture in the air. The kitchen is looking great. I can’t wait to see it finished. 😅
I love those worktops, kitchen is looking fantastic, makes the room look big too, can’t wait to see the painted bedroom, you both deserve a cozy place to rest at night, great work!
Love the worktop and yes I would definitely consider one, hope you finished the painting and you’re now in the bedroom, you both work so hard you need a break, good luck Ashton in your exams
The counter tops look great 👍. The kitchen and bedroom are both coming together at around the same time, so that'll be nice to see and a real mental boost! It was nice to see yis both chilling at the end - Well deserved! Thank you for another great video.
You should try American pancakes made with bananas cut up on top of maple syrup and pecans. Warm maple syrup. It will make your tongue jump up and slap the roof of your mouth! Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖

At the farmstore, I run we sell galvanized wire panels. If I were doing a concrete counter. I'd use that to strengthen/reinforce the countertops. To support the cantilever breakfast bar, I'd get a local welder to weld up flat barstool to go along front and middle of bar. Then have L shaped brackets to attach along cabinets where cantilever starts. IMHO
Yip hard to get right but we feel, having done one similar in the past that weve done enough to strengthen without making it too heavy for the cabinets. It was a balancing act. We definately wont be standing on it ;)
You said you're adding a 4cm cement slab. How is the sink going be, below the top of the cement? I would think you'd want them to be level. Curious if you are putting any cladding on the pillar?
Yeah its a belfast butler sink and they usua;ly sit beneath the surface. No we like the brutalism look of construction material, however this week we did add something special to it, vid coming out Wed shows!
Straightforward really, we were the same. China factory will get it to Dublin. You pay 85quid to hire an agent in Ireland to co-ordinate customs, import fees and delivery to your door. It seems tough to us cos we never do it, but it's a breeze to the pros as they do far more difficult logistics on a daily basis!! Go for it! 😁
Your fridge looks like it sticks out 5 or 6 in. into the narrow entry into the kitchen. I might've put it down where the pantry cabinets are. Not sure where the entry is when bringing in groceries. Which entered into your decisions.
Yeah we were in a dilemma on this as that was the original location, we put it here in the end as the kids go to it all the time so it's more convenient here. It actually doesn't stick out that far and it may look less when I put the doors on 👍
If you climbed all the trees , you could use a chipper to make mulch. The bigger logs could be turned into lumber if someone had a small or obviously furewood.
Watched the whole vid now. I loved the two of you sat doing a summation of the week. That's some progress you've made! That whole kitchen space is really coming on and is very close to fruition. Clare is a LEGEND just battering away with the plastering, and you're nearly there on the ground floor. The first floor will be quicker as you've learned a lot and there seems to be less quirky spaces to board? A great video - Thank you both!
Glad you enjoyed it, love sharing with you guys :) Heres hoping the upstairs will be quicker, proper starting it next week, which you should see the week after next. fingers crossed!
If you plan the boards carefully in a square room like the new bedrooms you can create a lovely 'panelled' look with little or no filling required. You rip down mdf into 4 inch strips and nail it over the 8x4 plasterboard joints, and infil those strips with other strips of mdf until you have a wall of 'squares' made of mdf strips pinned onto the plaster board with no board joints visible. Once caulked and painted it looks just like a pannelled wall - I've done it before. Lay the plaster board horizontally and the 4 ft high joint all around the room as at dado rail height so it works really well visually. You just have to plan the 2 horizontal boards per wall so they're 'centred' and your vertical mdf strips creating the panels catch the vertical joints. If you want to be really fancy you can router the mdf strip edges. Once painted it all becomes one wall.
You are such hard workers unbelivebel!!!! All the things you did to finally get a wonderful house 😮The energy you too have is really unbelivebel 🤔👍👍👍👍 In winter you wil sit on youre coache and watch tv in a warm ,dry and beutiful house Thank you for people to watch youre dream comtrough Good luck job hunting😊greetings from Holland
Right Rob- I challenge you to make Bao buns. You just need to steam em! Little bit of faff but omg worth it. I’ve made them (once so far) and they turned out so well I was shocked. I used a recipe by Marian Grasby but there are others. Goes so well with pulled pork or any meat.
Challenge accepted, Rob tells me easy peasy as our air fryer also steams... tho he also says weve never steamed anything in it or made those, and he is off googling now ;)
