I finally bought the book make it up, I got it yesterday 😊 Marie is my go to diy on almost everything I need to start making more makeup recipes with the book I have so much options as well on her blog. Thank you Marie for all your work and to share it with us!
From Sydney Australia. The basics are always the best. This is a great straight forward formulation for beginners like me. I did a half batch of the basic lotion you filmed years ago and it's great!
So my first lotion attempt done yesterday and I'm SO PLEASED with the result..It took a bit to thicken, just like you show Marie, but in the end it turned out beautifully. I myself love it and hope everybody else's :) Thank you so so much for this... 😊🌹❤️
I want to thank you so much for this video. I used this recipe (formulation) for my very first lotion. It turned out wonderful and non-greasy. I cross stitch so I have to be careful about what is put on my hands. The end product doesn’t leave a residue or smell on your fabric. Thank you again
Hi Marie, I am new to Lotion Making, your detailed information about cream making is excellent, thanks a lot. had a few queries: 1.How to incoporate hyluronic acid, vite, retinols, panthenol and how much in terms of percentage. 2.i am planning to use e wax and cetyl alc,how much would you recommend of each in percentage 3,Can we use lemongrass teas, fruit juices, cow milk ,rice milk, oatmilk or any homemade botanical water. 4.when do we inco-operate extracts . 5.which is a best humectant thanks a lot for your help. God Bless
Hi Marie!!! Super excited for the live streaming! I’ve been following you since a year now and just wanted to say THANK YOU! My question is simple: why when making less the 100 gram batch and mixing with a coffee frothier, why the lotion gets too frothy and then when it seems it’s emulsified hours later it’s separating and a texture like a mouse? This doesn’t happen to me when I use the inmersión blender .. thank you!
Hi Marie! I love all your videos as most of the ingredients you use are easy to find and if I may suggest, could you make a video of how to make rice face mask that can last for few months? Thank you in advance ♥️
Hi Marie! I love your site and have been using your basic lotion video for the past year as a base point for making my own face lotion with substituted oils(argan 60%, rosehip seed 30% and tanmaru 10%) that are best for my skin. After using the same recipe successfully multiple times, suddenly my lotion isn't thickening properly and separating a bit after sitting a while. Any guesses why? I would really appreciate your help. You have been my DIY guru since I started this awesome journey.
Hi Marie, love your videos... QUESTION... how long do you wait or sequester your lotion to test for mold or if the preservative and formula worked? Thanks...hope you answer
Simply Love your videos!!! You should make a similar lotion to the facial Cicaplast Baume from La Roche Posay! Have you ever tried it? Do you think any other formulations you’ve already posted such as the Shealoe Butter cream would have similar properties/effects dispite the difference in texture??
Hi Marie. First let me say I love your videos and the information you provide. When I make my emulsion it gets creamy and seems to be stable but I notice that sometimes there are small white bits that are there. The lotion is still creamy but the bits. Does this mean my emulsion didn't work?
Hi Marie, I like the consistency of this lotion, that’s why I’d like to stick to just oils and not butters, but I tried using 5g Hempseed oil and 5g Rosehip seed oil instead of 10g of Fractionated coconut oil. But, it didn’t thicken up and kind of didn’t blend well. Where did I go wrong? Please help! Thank you
You're so welcome! If you're interested in learning more about lotion formulation I've collected heaps of free resources here: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/where-can-i-learn-more-about-lotion-formulation/. Happy making!
Hello, I just love your channel and your blog. I was wondering it I could use aloe juice instead of water. Yes I know it changes the formulation. I bought a copy of Willow and Sage just because your mango mango stuff was in it.
Hi Marie - been following you for over a year now and I love your videos so much! I've learned so much and made so many beautiful and creative formulations...but I'd like to get more confident in developing my own creations from scratch. When considering the percentage of an emulsifier to use; what numbers are variables in the equation? For example, does a larger oil phase require a higher percentage of emulsifier? Or perhaps lower? I always get tripped up on this... Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and experience with us. Your channel is absolutely delightful and so well-done. Love the editing and creativity, and format. Also, side note - I think my 15-year-old might have a bit of a crush on you. ;)
Hi Kesse! I just put together an FAQ today to answer your question: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/where-can-i-learn-more-about-lotion-formulation/. If you review all the resources linked there I think you'll learn a lot! Thanks for DIYing with me, and happy making :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe Marie, after I posted this, I came across one of your lives where you touched on it. I meant to go back and delete my comment as not to waste your time (I really appreciate it). I'm thrilled to inspire an organizational FAQ post today! Thank you so much for taking the time. You have such a great online presence and are so organized with your blog posts. Humblebee & Me is my go-to resource when formulating. Thank you again!
Hi Marie Love how simple this recipe is. I do wonder if it would be ok to add a few drops of Essential Oil to this formula and if so, Do I need to adjust the oil that's put in the warm oil phase? Tyvm
What an great teacher you are...👑I wish to be your student...👑A most underrated channel but that's ok,Not everyone like the wise things...👑Luv from india❤

Hello Marie and Thank You! for all Your videos. I live in UK and im very new to DIY. I use Phenoxyethanol EHG Active Ingredients: Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin. to preserve my cosmetics. Is that a good preservative in Your opinion? I can't find here this one You are using. Most kind regards. Evie.
@@lucillebon Thank You l didn't know its called preservative 12. l did find out more searching under this name. How long it's acctuly shelf life of the products after useig this preservative??? Do You know? I can't find this information anywhere? Kind regards
Hi! I’m a formulation chemist. This is a good broad spectrum preservative effective at broad pH. In regards to how long your lotion will last, there is a lot more to consider. Lotioncrafter says it very well: Good production hygiene as well as the use of raw materials with low microorganism levels, as a result of correct raw material control, are vital prerequisites for the production of finished products. To that I’d like to add that the pH has a great impact as well. So, my conclusion is that many aspects affect the longevity, not just the choice of preservative. I do a lot of DIY at home and I recommend to make small batches that last maximum of half a year just to be on the safe side, that’s what I do 😊
I see that germall plus is good for broad spectrum but I'm wanting to just make as natural of a lotion without chemicals for personal use. Which emulsifying wax and preservative do you recommend for this? I would greatly appreciate your suggestion. Thank you 😊
Please refer to the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) + FAQ (www.humblebeeandme.com/faq/) :) And please remember that literally everything is chemicals, so you absolutely cannot make anything chemical free :)

I was wondering if you could answer a question about this recipe. I have been reading and researching for a while now on the most basic of lotion recipes and want to make this with the substitution of water for breastmilk for my baby. Is there any you would have any information on whether or not this would even work or if that would effect the perentage of any other ingredient? BM is around 90% water, but the fat content of around 4% worries me. Also, I know you cannot preserve breastmilk to make it shelf stable and this would not last very long. All BM lotion recipes I can find are with beeswax and no emulsifier nor preservative. TIA!
Hi! I don't really know. I think it could work, but it could curdle-it's impossible to say without trying it. And yes, the shelf stability of it is unlikely to be great, you'd want to use it in a day or two.
Yes-check out the resources linked in the blog post + the live stream I discuss in this video + the lotions Q&A video I shared in September. I have provided tonnnnnnnns of info on this :)
I tried this recipe but added Beeswax and zinc oxide to make it a sunscreen, however after the immersion blending, i left it for a while to cool, and added the Liquid GP. After which when i use the spatula to stir, it separated into chunks of cream and water. How come this can happen? Is it because i should not even stir when it is cooling? thanks!
Please read this re: DIY sunscreen: www.humblebeeandme.com/why-homemade-sunscreen-is-never-a-good-idea/ If you replaced the emulsifying wax with beeswax that would explain the separation. Stirring while cooling is fine :)
I made two lotions so far (and a lot of body wash!) and I have a question about cool down. My lotions thickened up much faster than yours. Same exact recipe, same technique, only they were very think after 60 seconds of immersion blending. Cool enough for my cool-down ingredients 2-3 minutes later. Now, it was autumn/winter, and my kitchen was only heated to 60-65°F (15-18C ... I'm part polar bear, and my kitchen is the coldest part of my house). Could the air temperature have affected things that much? I should try making more lotion this summer, but I don't use lotion in the summer. Too hot!
What temperature should the water and oil phases be at after 30 minutes in the water bath? Some makers suggest to heat and hold at 70 degrees celsius for 20 minutes.
Yeah, I bunged up the scheduling of this, so the video came out 24 hours earlier than the blog instead of at the same time. I pushed it live manually a few hours later, so it's up!
Hi marie, i love your video and all your project... I wanna try all of them... I like to add a kojic acid dipalmitate in my lotion but i dont know how... Can you please help me?
Hey! You'll find the answer to your question in my FAQ on my website at www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/how-can-i-incorporate-x-ingredient-into-a-formulation/ 🙂 Happy making!
That's really hard to answer without knowing more about your hair; I'd highly recommend this blog (science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/) to learn more about how different factors impact different hair types :) Happy making!
Look at the manufacture's recommended usage. It suggests .6-1% so since add that into the formula and subtract from the water amount so your percentage comes out to 100%. If that does not make sense, tune into her live session and she will help you clarify. She is so good at explaining EVERYTHING!
I've done a video on how to scale, but I don't make large batches-ever, really. "Large" to me is maybe 500g. Just look at how many videos I share-if I did large batches of everything I would drown in product lol.

Hi, do you know where to get colloidal oatmeal and silk powder? I watched your oat dream cream recipe and those products don't seem to be available anywhere anymore. Thanks!

Hello, I made this lotion but Im not sure if I can use it for my face, I tried once or two and nothing happend but I want to ask if its fine to use it as a face cream. Thank you
@@HumblebeeAndMe actually i don’t find safe preservative here our country. That's why i want to use sodium benzoate. Would you like to recommend me any kind of preservetive? Thanks for reply 💖
bought an emulsifying wax called dub base expert and suspect it might be solube in water instead of oil, if that is the case what could be teh solution. The mixture as is came out really foamy :(
I'm afraid I don't have any experience with that emulsifier, so I can't offer much advice. From reading about it I'd think it should work. It is oil soluble. I would recommend searching out one of the emulsifying waxes I recommend and trying again-I can offer more help with those if required, and you can gain some confidence. You can always come back to the dub base once you have more experience :)
Hey! You'll find the answer to your question in my FAQ on my website at www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/can-i-use-a-different-preservative-than-the-one-youve-used/ 😊Happy making!
It can work, but you'll want to be sure the pH is fairly acidic (~5) to give it a boost. It's not as good of a preservative as what I've used when used alone, but I have had success with it. Learn more & compare at humblebeeandme.com/preservatives/ :) Happy making!
Hi please make a lotion without glycerin or any humectant. In winters there will be no moisture in the atmosphere & humectant containing lotion will make the skin more drier and worse
Hey! So, that's not how humectants work in formulations/skin care :) Please read more here: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/is-there-a-humectant-tipping-point-where-they-dry-out-the-skin/.
You'd need to use a different preservative as this one is not approved for persons under 3 years. Read this for more info: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/can-i-use-a-different-preservative-than-the-one-youve-used/. Happy making!
