How to make 90s drum and bass with Akai S1000 - is a topic of this video. Or at least - how I make it. After finishing the album, I needed to take a bit of break, as making albums is definitely an energy draining process. I also can't be doing the same stuff over and over again for far too long. This is why most of my albums are very different. Every time I finish an album, I feel like I need to try new things, to keep me excited. This time i am going more in to the territory of Drum and Bass, but i will still going to be making jungle stuff, that's for sure. I'm also done with albums, as I want to be putting out stuff more often, meaning more 3-4 trackers. We'll see.
The hardware I use:
Akai S1000
Soundcraft Spirit FX8
Alesis QuadraVerb
Korg Microkorg
Voices Of Jupiter: ijosound.bandcamp.com/album/v...

Makes me realise why i still keep these old samplers, even if they dont get used. Put new psu’s in my s1000 and s1100 recently just as a precaution. Great insight and tune, legend.

i think what youre trying to say is that in the box, the summing is a mathematical formular, they literally just add the bits together. Whereas in the analogue domain the summing has an infinite resolution and is organically combined. Basically combining electrical currents

I like the way you get to your approach to your tracks. And i also like the view through your window as well ;-) For me it really fits the athmosphere! Well done :-)

10:38 Running samples out of old gear sounds way better to my ears. I did loads of tests too - I believe it still sounds ok when I mix in the box as long as my sounds are from the (hardware) sampler and not processed or pitched around too much (pitching up is ok if you sample in low octave). You can hear the difference when you pitch something way down - software is kind of thin and hardware has extra weight, texture and interest and a buttery mid/high imo.

Love your sound !!! Great track. Yours thoughts about analog vs digital are really ringing true for me these days. Saturation is a great way to get that "glue" you were talking about

Very good video, very good track! Takes me back in time when I was spinning DNB records. Less is more in production and true, I started with hardware, then went just software in 99 or 2000 but soon went back to have hardware (E-Mu ultras, lots of analog and digital synths) and the difference is huge. Software music was very nice but what I do now sounds better, more alive and organic . And samplers are amazing, a lot of work, but they are really great tools.

The samplers and sampling is back, Thank God, was sick of all these plugins and apps, seems like there is one every minute these days, nothing beats human touch and experience, nothing can emulate anything that is human based, so this is great video because we are all enjoying it and even the folks who did not like it, had to watch it, so they gathered something and did not vibe with them, that is a good thing. Are you using Cubase VST 5.0 as your DAW? I been using Cubase since it was on ATARI. Thank You.

That's True About soundcrafts not distorting well. they are super clean and with huge headroom so it's very hard to make my kics distort there.

Great stuff. Just wondering what made you choose an S1000 over an S950?
@IJOSoundVideo
@IJOSoundVideo Год назад
Hey ! PRICE :D I actually had s950 for 100 quid back in 2008, only used it for one track and sold it as I thought it was too complicated at the time for me. Once I got back in to samplers a couple of years later, S1000 was only 50 quid while s950 was already selling for hundreds and hundreds more. So S1000 was like a poor man's s950 :D But I am happy with S1000 because S950 had one major flaw, which was its separate outputs were monophonic only, and I love playing polyphonic stuff, so it so S1000 is perfect for everything.

I don't understand what is the point of this. You can use a DAC emulator plugin to sound like the S1000 and there's not one person on the entire planet earth that can tell the difference. I have like 20 different DAC emulators. So what did you accomplish? It seems like you're one of those hipsters who's self obsessed with yourself so that you can feel like you're so cool and authentic and underground for using a crappy sampler, but you didn't actually do anything and it just sounds tired and cliché. These breakbeats aren't even as unique sounding as what AI can randomly generate.

I’ve been listening to this guy’s music on Spotify for ages now. I have no idea what the S1000 or the little analogue desk adds per se but the music is fantastic and unlike much pristine contemporary music not fatiguing to listen to. So I clicked on your channel excited to hear your DAC emulator-infused tunes… but there was nothing. A void.
