, I’m hearing there are dangers with consuming elderberries without cooking it. Does freezing take care of that? If so how long should you leave in the freezer?
Cyanide inducing glycides I'm researching the Elderberry right now I want to make some lozenges with Elderberry and honey everyone else I've watched were red says to cook it first as it can build up in your system
Hi Ashley, I ordered some succulent cuttings online a couple of weeks ago and I'm having a heck of a time getting them to root without either killing them from dehydration or rotting the stems with too much water. Gritty mix, regular potting soil, nothing seems to be working for them. Anyway, I recently watched your sponge experiment videos and I'm thinking about trying that. I'm wondering how it's going with those guys and if they really did end up putting out soil roots rather than water roots. If they ended up rooting in soil just fine, I think I'll try that next, maybe with a little bit of tappin' roots liquid in the water. I'm wondering if you'd suggest it or if you have better advice. I know that trying to start some new plants in the autumn in the high desserts of Oregon is not the best plan, but I just had the urge to play with a new variety of plants. I got some jade, ripple jade, watch chain, hobbit, donkey tail, jelly beans, pine tree cactus, black rose (which is withering really badly), arborium green, kananchoe, jet beads, portulacaria afra, elephant bush, and banana cactus. Not sure if that helps, but that's what I'm workin' with. Hope you're feeling good today and have a great week!
L B, yes it did work well, and they transferred beautifully from sponge to soil. I’d definitely recommend trying the sponges if they are rotting or withering! Sometimes plants are just exceptionally picky about sending out roots, and no matter what you do they won’t root. But I’d definitely recommend trying the sponges if other methods aren’t working! Let me know how it goes. I hope they put out roots for you! ❤️
Ashley Glassman / Succulent Alchemy Awesome, I'm getting some sponges from Trader Joes right now, and I'll let you know how it goes for me. I'm working on getting some Christmas cacti to root as well at the moment, so they should come in handy anyway. Thanks so much for your help!
Anita Hamlin, you can make a type of ferment with maple syrup, but in this case with all the extra added water content from the berries it would be almost guaranteed to mold rather than ferment properly... The honey just has so many of the good bacteria we need, and the maple syrup is missing those. 😭 It’s not a ferment, but I’d suggest maybe making a glycerine tincture to use as a sweet, immune boosting alternative? I wish I had a good vegan option for a honey like ferment for you, but a tincture could maybe be a good alternative if you are wanting to enjoy it as an immune booster. If you are looking for more of a food option, you can infuse elderberries in agave nectar, but I don’t think agave is a healthy option for a sweetener in general, so I don’t usually recommend it. That being said, if it’s a sweetener you feel comfortable with using, you can do the exact same thing as I show in the video, only leave it for 1-2 weeks only to infuse, but not ferment. You could TOTALLY also try an infused maple syrup, and just not let it sit long enough to ferment. I make both infused and fermented honey, and both are amazing. So maybe since honey isn’t an option for you, an infused rather than fermented maple syrup or agave nectar would be a fun option? Just rambling off ideas here. 😊. I used to be vegan myself, so I understand the struggle of finding alternatives in recipes like this! Hope those ideas help a little? ❤️❤️
@@phileofarm1 I was going to ask the same question, you already answered it :) I thinkI'll try the infused version with agave nectar or maple syrup. I am curious as to why you think agave nectar is not a good sweetener ? Also as a side note I've been missing your videos :) 🌱 🌿 🌺 🌸hope you're doing well and will come back soon with another vid. Love your vids, always learn something new and interesting.
Yes ma’am! If you have any concerns about not using it quickly, or live in a warm humid area, then it will keep about like any other jam or jelly in the refrigerator quite well! ❤️
