I started making fried rice after watching your videos and it gets really easy to make after a couple of times, and I use Basmati rice and cook it with chicken stock - it never sticks or gets soggy, and you don't need to dry it out first and can add it straight away
I grew up in San Francisco and the best fried rice was always at the local greasy spoon and they would cook it right on the flat top next to the breakfast. It's got to have barbecue pork in it😂 but that being said I judge every Chinese restaurant I eat at by the quality of their fried rice if they can't make good fried rice what the heck are they doing cooking other Chinese food😮
FRIED RICE IS THE ULIMATE STRUGGLE MEAL. Get a bag of rice preferably from indian or chinese grocery. Jasmine rice is much cheaper there. A dozen eggs, chicken, soy sauce and frozen veg and you can feed 6 people. It is soooooo cheap.
When we lived in the Philippines my mom learned to make Philippino style fried rice. The recipe our housekeeper taught her used American style bacon for the protein. It's really good, even cold the next day!
Sup Larry, rice is another ultimate budget item, everything goes, but msg? It's in soy sauce and other sauces, Not listed but naturally, almost impossible to eat anything with no msg! It's in most veggies, fruits, even in proteins, it's natural, can't live without it, you know when they add msg they hide behind science terms.. it's less salty than salt, it opens pours on tongue, if add to something that tastes bad, it tastes worse, had to taste good to enhance, people say don't eat it allergic, it's bad.. but flavor enhancers are just added msg most times, restaurants can say no msg or no added msg if don't add msg🦧, but use ingredients that have msg🦧, spaghetti and meatballs have msg 🤷, I've made your recipes a lot, and good, adjusted some my recipes after 35 years chef👊, just when heat msg I get🫨😵💫, uncle rofer just a comedian throwing nsg so can sell shit🙄, when wolfepit hats, shirts come! Don't have long, but like atleast a hat over the years lol, grandkids, well family love your channel, sry went on and on, maybe used to it lol, tyvm tc
@@AbuHajarAlBugatti There's no way anchovies sub for Spam. The key to enjoying Spam is moderation. As long as you don't have it too often it won't hurt you. There is nothing that subs for actual Spam. Not even low sodium Spam, which is an abomination, in my opinion.
@@bethenecampbell6463 Because the only thing that makes spam Tasty or rather edible is the toxic enormous amounts of salt. Thats why less salt version suddenly tastes like crap because thats how it really tastes. Its waste products of pork not fit enough to be sold properly because nobody buys these parts of a pig. You can also theow half a teacup of salt into ground up guts and suddenly they taste good aswell
Thank you Larry, the music is so relaxing too. I'm making your spam and pineapple rice tomorrow! It doesn't have to cost a lot to be delicious! They all look so good!❤
Gotta remember, Uncle Roger is primarily a comedian. If it wasn't for covid, he wouldn't have started his YT channel (he wants to be a stand up comedian from an interview I watched). Anyway, interesting variety of fried rice dishes. I have to try to make fried rice one of these days, but I think I'm partial to Kenji Lopez-Alt's versions. He makes wonderful food.
@@AbuHajarAlBugatti southern China is mostly rice dishes, northern is same rice to noodle dishes, Malaysia is mostly rice, Japan mostly rice.. not a literature major lol, I'm an idiot chef, I didn't get what meant in that comment, but in RI there's not any Chinese(or cantanese/Asian here) that has good fried rice, most all closed, I like sushi but always had sushi rice, bowl white rice, saw order fried rice and ordered it, had peas but I like peas lol. Take care
that's a very basic fried rice i have a lot of American friends and they say there Chinese and English take always over there are awful and uk friends on holiday say its a odd take on English and Chinese food we have a fantastic Chinese's here its adapted to taste buds i think but there a Chinese family owned business food amazing price is good service is great been cooking Chinese dishes for a long time best ingredients still cant beat them not far off though lol but then the Chinese would prob call them not authentic lol but taste great lol
It is so easy to make and much cheaper . Moreover so many ways of doing it. Cook your rice in broth and it will taste much better. Keep it refrigerated overnight before making fried rice.
Has society gone so far that we can't make a flied lice joke without pissing people off? I actually don't make this at home very often. Probably could more often.
I can't believe I have to explain this to adults...... The food in the box has never and will never look like food on the box and it doesn't matter if it looks like poop is how it tastes, my wife sounds like a spoiled brat and you need to divorce her for your own mental health
Ive never realized how hard it is to make perfect white rice. Ive only had rice come out perfect once. Probably cooked rice about 5+ times 😅 whats the secret? Its always mushy or sticking to the pot and i cook it exactly how the bag says. 😢
@user-if2sz2ku2w really, half a cup less? That could be where I'm going wrong. I usually add a half a cup more because the water evaporates so quickly 😬
@@Big_boom90Never more water than instructions say. When the water boils add the rice, bring back up to boil, put the lid on and turn heat way down. Leave it be for 20 - 25 minutes. You can even take it off heat, but that takes a little longer to absorb the water. Alternatively, invest in a rice cooker. Good luck! Once you find the pan, rice type, water amount and timing it'll be perfect every time . And you'll never forget!
@bethenecampbell6463 thanks so much, I love rice and would like to make it better so me and my sons can really enjoy it. Will be applying these tips to my next pot of rice. Thanks yall! 🫡 maybe I'll update yous when I do 😅 take care
I remember when i was taking cooking classes, one of the things they taught us was how to make fried rice. We put both bacon and pineapple into our fried rice, alongside carrot and celery. The pineapple was honestly delicious in the fried rice, the acidity of it was very satisfying in my mouth. So yes, i do believe that pineapple belongs in fried rice
One thing I would have done, was show the products that I'm using so people would know what I'm using versus going down said aisle where these items are sold in their store, and grabbing something polar opposite of what I'm recommending. If you have HBP, grab this instead of that, etc. My local grocery store is Publix, and all the sauces are sold on the International Aisle. Easy and convenient for me, but they have a HUGE variety of specific sauces to get Chinese Food up and running; some with MSG, some without....some with this, some with that. You get what I'm saying. Plus, what better way to get sponsorships by showcasing the product to inspire sales!!
I stopped eating fried rice after realising it was just making me unwell, and to pre-empt the "it's the MSG allergies!!!!" loons, no, it was the excess carbs, I'm still eating MSG-laced chinese food which doesn't make me feel like death warmed up, I even had some fried rice back in December after many months of not having it, and yep, felt like crap, so, rice is off my menu...
I wonder if you could use cauliflower rice or a different grain. Hopefully there's something that will work so you can have the fun and flavor without feeling awful later.
@@bethenecampbell6463 Having cut out a number of foods that were doing the same, I honestly don't feel the need to replace them, the cravings for them died off, so don't really feel the want to have them any more, and besides, cauliflower is on my "veg that shouldn't exist" list, cos I can't stand it... :P
Well this is disappointing. I just watched your 60 days on the carnivore diet video and planned to follow you and watch more videos. I take it you are no longer carnivore.
You should follow. Larry is an omnivore. He did a video a month or so ago where he explained about going back and forth with the carnivore diet. He also recently had an accident that has made making new videos difficult. While he's healing he and his family are re editing some old videos into themed compilations. Today is Fried Rice day. There are more carnivore videos on the channel for you and lots of other fun stuff. Give it a try!
Ranking on Uncle Roger is sacrilege. Too the point though, he is a comedian with a shtick that allows him to utilize both his ethnicity and his obvious love of fried rice to his benefit. Personally, I'm not a fan of basic-ass egg fried rice. I find it lacking in all areas no matter who prepares it. I apologize for my bit of a rant Mr and Mrs Wolfe Pit but I just had to get it off my non-GMO, totally biologically produced and biologically sound chest.
Basic egg fried rice has its place - that being said, Uncle Roger is a comedian not an authority on what is or isn't good. Basic is good when all you have or want is basics, beyond that though: live it up. Make it wet, make it greasy, burn some, do what you like. Fried rice is a blank canvas: make a masterpiece.
we were so poor, but ma always bought us a new pair of jeans for Christmas. She would cut out the front pockets so we always had something to play with. circa 1957.
Wolfe, you should know better than anyone else that *MEAT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE INGREDIENT IN COOKING*, and that will never ever change, so it's not something we should be complaining about, it's part of business, otherwise they would go bankrupt. But I digress. I'm SOOOO GLAD YOU INCLUDED TOASTED SESAME OIL! THAT INGREDIENT IS SO CRUCIAL! The simple fact is that sesame oil is used in almost EVERY Chinese dish, and rightfully so because it gives a rich nutty aroma and flavor. If you want to be EXTRA CHINESE FANCY, then swap out your salt and sugar with savory oyster sauce! Also, you can't just use ANY soy sauce, there is a proper type to maximize flavor compound. Light soy sayce is usually for dips and sauces but if you don't have regular soy sauce, then it's fine. NEVER USE DARK SKY SAUCE UNLESS THE TECIOE CALLS FOR IT, IT IS YOUR GOAL IS TO GIVE DARK COLORING TO A CARB SUCH AS FLAT NOODLE. One final note: Imho, your eggs were slightly overcooked. Overcooked eggs are never good. The trick is to cook it HALFWAY when it's still slightly runny and fluffy, then just take it immediately off the heat and set aside. The residual gear will continue to cook the eggs until the perfect doneness.
