Have you ever traveled to Japan and felt like you couldn't fully connect with the local culture? Many travelers experience what I call the "Gaijin Ghost" phenomenon, where they feel disconnected from Japanese people and culture.
Personally, I know this feeling all too well. I moved to Japan, but it wasn't until I lived and worked with Japanese people through organizations like WOOF that I truly felt a connection. And Japanese people have told me they feel the same way. Outside of nightlife, there just isn't a space where they can connect with travelers or foreign residents.
That's why I want to build the Japanese Dome House, an art gallery and event space that showcases local and international artists, both digital and traditional. My focus is on community engagement through workshops, events, and exhibitions. It will be a space where travelers and locals can come together and truly experience the diverse culture of Japan.
Imagine stepping into a round space. You're surrounded by stunning digital and traditional artwork. You hear the sound of laughter and conversation, and you see people from all over the world connecting through their shared love of art. Everyone is dining on local cuisine. Some are dancing. And a live musician plays softly in the background. You feel like you're part of something special, and you know that this experience is going to stay with you even after returning home.
Traditional tourist experiences just don't cut it, and even excursions organized by locals can feel limited. That's why I'm creating a space that prioritizes community engagement and cultural immersion. By showcasing local and international artists in the Dome House, I'm not only providing a platform for their work but also creating a space for people to connect.
I believe that art has the power to bring people together, regardless of language or cultural barriers. But galleries and museums can deaden the energy of art. By hosting intimate, themed events with local vendors providing food, music, and vibes, I will create a space where people can deeply engage with the art.
I've already run small language exchange events to test this, and I've been able to establish relationships with local artists, entrepreneurs, and restaurants with experience in event planning. These vendors are eager to run events with more international folk.
The Japanese Dome House approach flies in the face of the traditional tourist experience. I'm not just sharing the nuances of culture, I'm giving people a chance to establish real-world relationships. Relationships make up the true essence of our lives.
If you're wondering how I'm going to make all of this happen, I have access to eight years of relationships in almost every region in Japan, especially in Fukuoka. Many local businesses and artists know me by name, and I've already secured partnerships with them. I have a solid plan in place for building and launching the Dome House. I'm also committed to transparency and accountability, providing regular updates to my backers throughout the entire process.
Now, I want to be clear that this project isn't for everyone. But if you're looking for a way to truly experience the culture of Japan through people, the Japanese Dome House is the spot. By backing my campaign, you'll be supporting a unique and meaningful space that brings people together from all over the world. You'll be helping to create a community that values connection, creativity, and sustainability.
Thank you for considering this campaign. I truly believe that this project has the potential to make a lasting impact on Fukuoka and possibly serve as a model for communities around the world.

Where is this located/planning to be located? I'm interested in potentially visiting when I (eventually 😁) go to Japan. Sounds cool.
