How do you go by teaching yourself about music theory? Understanding notes that brings tension?

Theory tutorials on RU-vid. Then reading about it. Start with something small “how to build a minor chord” “how to build a major chord” “what are chord inversions. Stuff like that. Then I take notes and google anything I don’t understand etc. then things start to click over time!

Generally kicks don't change notes or need to be "put in key", but if you want to you can check what note the kick is on and then use the kick in key but just make sure that it is not too high or low and is still punchy enough

@@JohonYT15 Same applies for snares. Like kicks and hi-hats and most drums, they don't really clash with the notes in the melody. The only drums you need to put in key is the 808
