These amplifiers work on a principal that is similar to the photo flash: energy is stored in banks of capacitors. A lot of energy can be released in a short amount of time. Of course it WOULD be really cool to have an amp do 9000 watts x 2 channels continuous sine wave, but the demands of that would require an outlet with 200 amp capacity at 120V. Fortunately, music has a crest factor, typically 9dB, so the amplifier only needs to pull 20A from the outlet to deliver those 9000W peaks with 900W avg power levels.
basspig Your the one talking utter bullshit , no amp pulling only 20a can make peaks of 9kw even at 220v thats just nonsense the caps do not hold that much power for one, This is the kind of nonsense that companies use to convince you an amp's more powerful than it is.Also caps on the output stages are for filtering out the high frequencies uses in class d operation.
Darren Woods When I was naive, I used to think the same as you. But then I learned about crest factor and how many joules of energy is stored in capacitors. I'm not claiming the amplifiers can output 9kW continuous sine wave, but they do it for short durations enough for a percussion hit and maybe a bit longer, before the energy storage must be replenished in the power supply. Class D don't use caps to filter the switching. In the Crown XTi series amp I just repaired, their are just four large toroid inductors that filter the switching signal of 250KHz. At those frequencies, you don't need large capacitors to filter RF energy. The electrolytics are for power storage, not removing hash from the output.
I thought they generally use a LC filter to take care of the high freqs ? Also I do understand about all these factors , but sorry I still do not agree with those figures. If caps could store that much power they would be better than batteries. And what good is 9kw for a split second like as you put it a "flash" what good is it for a split second ...sorry I got off harsh but I just think amp manufactures often blatantly lie about its power rating , you talk about sine wave and such but have your ever herd the crap amps have to deal with these days like dubstep with massively loud low end basslines that go on for minutes on end.
The song was honestly more interesting than the video, but its always fascinating seeing such components that create beautiful music being manufactured.
for maintenance I think that these amplifiers would be a problem to get the spare parts I think that the components are not identified a point to find since as a repair technician we must completely change the card holder that does not cost so cheap, I prefer the crown or crest for having better service maintenance within reach. I do not doubt that they are good amplifying but heard comment that their heel of aquileases the power supply.
por mantenimiento creo que estos amplificadores seria un problema conseguir las refacciones creo que no están identificados los componentes un punto encontrar ya que como tecnico de reparaciones hay que cambiar completamente la tarjetera que no cuesta tan barata, prefiero los crown o crest por tener mejor servicio y mantenimiento al alcance. no dudo que sean buenos amplificando pero escuchado comentario que su talón de aquileases la fuente de alimentación.
People thinking that power out can equal more than power in with proper music are being badly deceived, 20 amps at 240 volts in is about 1800 ish per channel out with a 20% loss and that cont max, you will see a little more with peaks but that's about it, yes they are smaller and lighter and aslo more efficient by around 20% over a 3 step class H but no where near what they claim and trust me I have had many years in this game with almost all equipment owned from the proper manufacturers including my own built products, and honestly the only power figures you can trust is old amplifiers or some new ones ie crest 9200, ffa 10000 and some qsc etc, I won't mention the names of the naughty ones as don't want to slag off,,, think of it this way, for a switch mode amp if it's on a 32 amp plug and claiming to be over 3kw per channel at 4 ohms and more than 4k at 2 ohms per channel then for get it, dream land, proper power sounds like proper power it's easy to tell when it's bullshit, there is a reason why a crest 9001 is rated at 2200 per channel on a 32 plug,
The output won't be a simple dummy load, it'll be intelligent power converters to recycle the electrical power - run all the amps in lock step and combine the outputs with small spreader resistors (probably the cables themselves) straight into big power converter. Alternatively you could probably just set the amps to produce 220Vac at 50Hz out and power half the factory indirectly(!)
You want to get past the infant mortality part of the bathtub curve or you get lots of warranty returns. Running hot for a while finds some defects like bad soldering or heat sink mounting.
