I bought a jar of bait. What is the best way to store your bait and how long will it last once you open it or make it ? Just wondering if it needs to be refrigerated etc. Thx for your video and time.
I would refrigerate or freeze it when you are not trapping in the winter. I leave mine outside all winter while I trap and have no problems with it going bad.
Thanks! I should have worn latex gloves, not only to keep the smell off my hands, but also keep my scent out of the bait. It took a lot of scrubbing to get it off haha.
I don't think it will scare them. It just adds some other smells to get them to want the bait. I bet it would work equally well if you decide not to add the fish.
Poisons are often not specific to only the target species. Different to different species having different tolerances. It's an active ingredient per kg equation. Also baits can be targeted, e.g. deer don't eat meat baits. And non target species that like the bait can get poisoned, dead if susceptible. Some poisons remain toxic , some don't. The former can kill susceptible species from their carcasses being consumed , enough for the fatal dose for the species scavenging.
Pro tip: If you don't put your hand on top of the grinder like that you won't lose a finger! Use a stick or something just not you hand or fingers like that.
