How to Make Homemade Vanilla Extract

Great video, thank you. How many extracts can you make using the same vanilla beans?

I've been making vanilla extract for years now and I find that using higher percentage alchohol gets a higher quality extract much faster. I use Spirytus(from Poland), it's 96% alchohol and renders a great extract in about a weeks time. Everclear would also be a good substitute. Both make higher quality extracts in a fraction of the time. I also find that cutting the beans into about 1 inch pieces helps extract a much richer vanilla flavor.

Great video! I didn't know it was possible to make your own extract at home :) Two questions tho... what size bottle of vodka did you use? Where do you buy whole vanilla beans? Thank you again!
