Who the flying fucc would vote this down..its a med student giving advice to prospective med students. What the hell is their to vote down?...dont like his glasses or something?...
Wow! I just remembered that comment, well.. YES I knew it before I got into it that it was something that I wanted to do. Anyways I'm enjoying it so far except for "Anatomy" it was difficult at first but I got threw it.
aniyeats I'm in 8th grade and my grades are ok. usually I get mostly B's and some A's but idk if med school is for me. there are alot of other students who get straight A's , but I've always wanted to be a doctor and I'm not sure if I can do it because there are alot of other students who clearly try more than I do.
Such great advice, and you have such a down to earth personality. Your interpersonal skills really show, and I think you will have amazing rapport and strong relationships with your future patients. Happy to know there are individuals out there like you pursing a career in the healthcare field. Rooting for you!
Thanks so much! I just got into med school and am beyond thrilled, but as you can imagine that excitement is coupled with the "oh crap it's really happening!" feeling. I know your videos will continue to be a major source of wisdom and comfort for me.
Med school is freakin hard and I hate how much I have to work/learn. I'm in second year. What he say's about not knowing whether he'd make it or not is completely true. Even if you're cruising, or you think you are, you're never really safe enough to kick back and relax and go down a gear.
quite interesting your insight and your misconceptions during your first year at med school, personally, i've devised a way of being self-conscious on actually learning how to learn, before even trying to "digest" all the subsequent classes, tests, and lectures i was bound to fulfill and ace. funnily enough, in this country, you leap right into med school right after finishing high school, thus, making med school a lengthy 6-year venture. props man, and keep up with the good motivational videos!
I truly am thankful for this video. As a sophomore in high school with too much time on my hands, what you said about having more on your plate making you more effective really spoke to me. This really gave me a boost of confidence and validated my methods of maximum efficacy. (I aim to become a surgeon and am about to become a surgeon) I am taking all honors and an AP course next year along with being part of the ems in my town and three sports seasons. So I will have a lot on my plate if you add college visits. Thanks again.
Thank you so much :) I started med school at Baylor about a month ago, and this really helped me relax. Trying to stay focused and positive is ten times harder when it seems like everyone around you is either beasting or vocally distressed. It's definitely taking a huge adjustment from undergrad, but i feel like I'm starting to get used to the grind. Also, Good luck to everone!!!
I've just finished my first year in medical school and I can RELATE to everything you were talking, this is really a very good video but I wish I had seen it earlier when I first started as I could I have avoided all the mistakes you were talking about ,so Hopefully I will do better next year with much much more experience :)
Wow thank you for this! Definitely relate to everything you said especially the part of panicking due to a test and having tunnel vision as a result. I know the information but I tend to stress/get anxious about my ability and perform less than I hope. Working on it by incorporating more MCQ's to my study pattern to get used to all the possible different ways a question could be asked by creating a broader approach.
Thanks for such a good video, and for sharing this. It really has helped me calm down a bit before starting this year. Knowing what your misconceptions were, are much like what I have going in. Really nice video...
thank you !! this was very helpful.. I am a second year med student but I'm still unfortunately trying to figure it all out ;) Can you do some videos on your study techniques and how do you organize your time .. that would be helpful :D
I volunteered at a childrens hospital for a year and went to mexico several times to do humanitarian work. I don't think you need to go out of the country, but sticking with at least a few volunteer experiences for a year or more will make your application a cut above the rest (in my opinion). I chose a school that had extremely hard criteria to meet to apply for school, and then I was golden for any other school I wanted to apply to. More than one way to skin a cat though, hope this helps :)
Hi, I'm in my first year of med school from the Philippines. We started school last June & I'm still on my "pre-med" studying habits & I learned it the hard way that's it's never enough but I'm still having a hard time improving my study habits. Please keep those videos coming. Thank you.
I wish I could become a doctor. It's always been my dream. But I get queasy and feel weak when I see blood and gore. I can watch Grey's Anatomy and videos on RU-vid but the second I see blood in person and smell the iron smell, bam.. I can feel the burning in my chest and then I get weak and nauseous. I look up to you so much because anybody that could be a doctor is truly a strong and honorable person. Props to you!
First when I watched this video a year ago I was like neeee, but now Im in my first year I agree with everything he says haha and had the exact same misconceptions.
I've been volunteering at a major children's hospital here, and fell in love with the atmosphere of the hospital. Wish there were more opportunities for getting experience during high school.
First of all, I'd like to thank you for your videos. They've helped me a lot. I'm a first year brazilian med student, and I'd love to know more about the USMLE tests, clerkships, what material/books should I use for studying and when should I start studying for the Step 1. I'm so lost! Hahaha Keep making these videos, they're great! :)
Looks like your graduating soon! Woo! Congratulations for making it through one hell of a ride!!! All the best to you going into intern year! :) (I'm almost to the end of first year).
Dude im about to start my 4th year of med school.... and yea I totally agree you need to study how a teacher examines and that already makes studying half as easy as it would otherwise.... and I definitely agree about "having more to do makes you more effective"
I am a high school student and I just finished my first year. I am already looking toward my future as a doctor and already it is causing me to drop a class I have been taking since 6th grade and I love it. Band. In my school, to get an advanced diploma, you have to take 3 years of Spanish and I have already fucked up. I should have taken two semesters of Spanish last year so I could finish it this year and have more time for med classes in my next two year of high school. I am taking intro to med and Spanish next year and that it all I have time for.
Angel Morris personally my advice is to take your time, try as much as you can to do what you want to do in the time you want to do it in, but otherwise remember, its okay to relax and take your time every once in a while🤗 good luck with your studies and i hope you all the best!
Hey everyone I'm starting medical school in 2 weeks and you can be with me through this journey and continuing my passion which is dancing and breakdance and make sure the quality of my videos will be better.
Thank you for posting great videos! Do you think you could do an MCAT focused video? Your favorite books for each section, taking a class yay or nay, the class you'd recommend, your study schedule, etc. Thank you!
the same things to expecte in the folowing years it's not about how much you stady but about what you stady.the thing that make made each time is that the listen that i didn't read is the one that i found in the exam
The dude in the video went out of High School and aimed for a Business degree, and went in the middle went to Switzerland for 2yrs and came back and finished his degree. He had his job for a year or two. So he's about around 30-34.
Oh God, the teacher thing is SO TRUE! Teachers have such different criteria when they test. I wish every prof would give a sample exam (with answers) before finals. They never do though!
This video was very enlightening and I appreciate your honesty and authenticity about your experience! Now I'm only a sophomore in high school, but do you have any advice/insight for someone who aspires towards pre-med/medical school and obviously ultimately a career in medicine?
Hudannie1 and dignity123, I was a business major. I decided to pursue medicine after an unfulfilling life in sales. My little brother and his wife helped me through the premed process, they are a year ahead of me. His wife tutored me for the MCAT, tutors are very helpful. Other than those two, I didn't have any career counseling, or doctor friends. I did however shadow a ton before I was set on this path. I met doctors that were very helpful and ended up being awesome mentors.
Wow, this was made 5 years ago and I wish I watched this before I started medical school. Every point he made, I've experienced this year as a OMS1. I went into the first year thinking if I could do science at the top public university in the country, I could do med school with a strict 8-6 schedule. NOPE! It's been 8am to 930pm +/- 2hrs depending on schedule.
Really awesome videos! Thanks so much for sharing from such a positive perspective. As a pre-med undergrad, it can sometimes be daunting to think of what awaits you in med school, perhaps even doubting if you'll get there! My question is, do you have any advice for pre-med undergrads, anything you did/could have done that works? Also, is it true that you don't necessarily have to be a bio major? Blessings!
I am so blessed to have found your page on RU-vid! Thank you for being so open. I hope this is not too personal, but I was wondering what that is like to be married and be in medical school? What does she do for a living if I may ask?
Great advice! I am currently on the biology/ pre-med track as an undergrad, any advice on how to get into med school? What path did you take while in college? Thanks for sharing :)
These are great tips thanx! Just out of curiosity did you have a part time job or was the completely out of the question?? You know considering the amount of time spent on studying
Nujood Alawwad same but in America and other places you have to do 4 year undergrad and then you can start Med school... i think.. correct me if im wrong🤗
that's it, it's not hard to study, it's hard to consume your hole day just studying!!, i used to play more than 14 hours and now i can't play!! man this is so hard, but you have to do this... God help us.
I'm 13, and I'm really interested in medicine and medical science! I'm planning on maybe becoming a doctor! Is there any thing that I could be doing now to prepare for medical school when I'm older?
Get good grades in school, develop good study habits and do well on the SAT. Get into a good college and find a degree field you enjoy, do well in that and study hard! Do any extra curricular's, shadow a Dr and most importantly keep your GPA in good standing in high school and college. After that start applying to medical/professional school. Good luck! -sincerely a Biology Pre-Medical Undergrad Student
Hey I'm 13 as well and I've wanted to be a neurosurgeon for most of my life that, a nurse, or a dermatologist. I differently want to be a neurosurgeon luckily my mom is a neuroscience nurse and her sister is a doctor so be gotten a lot of guide lines from them. 1. Pay attention in science 2. Study 3. Always do any kind of homework 4. Get a part time job anywhere once you are the age 5. Get good grades 6. Look into different kinds of doctors and find the kind you want to be 7. Read blogs from that kind of doctor 8. Email that specialty doctor and ask them how they like their job 9. Have a stable GPA 10. Have good study habits & stop procrastinating 11. Take any chance you have to showdown in a hospital
As a high school senior who is struggling to get accepted, FOCUS ON SCHOOL. Take as many anatomy classes as you can, get good grades! If you dont understand whats going on in science/math classes, GET A TUTOR. Get help! If you want to be accepted to a good college, you're gonna need good grades. High School grades is what they look at but you need to get started now.
I'm a 13 male who is passionate and caring, and I found out I want to be a neonatologist. Advice decide which division you like better or have strong passionate about and stick it! Study, you don't have to have a science undergrad, people said that English Major in college helped them do well in med school. While others say Chemistry helped them. Found out what you like major in it then go to med school. Requirements to become a doctor: 1. Finish High-School with atleast a 3.6 and try you hardest to get A's in science, and get aim for honor roll or AP classes. 2. Major in something you enjoy in undergrad at a university. 3. Find a med school program that has your division of what you want to do. 4. Residency is about 2 years. 5. Fellowship is 3 years. Total years:13-15. Good luck!!!!
Hey everyone I'm starting medical school in 2 weeks and you can be with me through this journey and continuing my passion which is dancing and breakdance and make sure the quality of my videos will be better.
Lolo Ferarri I was constantly finding something new to motivate me. For a while it was running, I decided during 2nd year board study to prepare to run my age. I wanted to run 30 miles on my 30th birthday. I would study and then take a random hour out of the day to run for 50 min. I had never run before in my life and had hated it up to the point of starting my training and then it became a real escape for me. I also motivated myself with new toys once in a while, like a Nintendo once, or an iPhone. Really anything that could distract me for a second was good motivation. I would study for no more than 50 min at a time usually and I tried to be strict about breaks taking no more than ten min. Hope this helps, good luck!
If you get a bad grade in a certain lecture do you repeat the exam? I wanted to ace one exam too and I totally ended up with a bad grade and felt really disappointed! I studied the lecture too, studied books and everything, just not focused on how the professor asks :( how important do you consider grades?
hey! I studied at the U of U Psychology for two years but stopped and moved back to europe becase i felt it wasn't right. in august this year i started public health and just quit this last week, because i just can't deny my wish to become a doctor anymore! i love medicine and everything about it:) in three weeks i will start my practica in the hospital and apply for med school and a program of physician assitant for next october. How did you manage to remember so many things though?
dude, c ... am also a first year med student nd I jst joined, ppl around me kept on telling dat this is a hard choice u hav made!!! loads nd loads of ppl r watching whether am failing or passing.. I need some motivation...will I be able to do this???
thanks for this video... I've made it through my first year, although I couldn't manage my sleep time 😴...i was staying up all night, even the night before the exam 😖...can you tell me how I can do it..? p.s:I'm not single , so i haven't that much responsibilities.
When I first watched this video... I didnt understand twhere you were coming from. It was just a good video, but now that I am in my second block of med school, I feel like I am going insane smh
Can you please do a video on how to get into med school? In Australia its so hard. I am smart enough but am a raid I can't get there due to my highschool :(
Renee Grinyer Hey there, I received a place at Adelaide Medical School in January. From what I know about my cohort, the average ATAR they scored (non rural) is in the high 98s to 99.95. Don't stress too much about what school you go to, study hard, ace your assessments, and prepare for the UMAT. Send me a message if you want to know any more. Hope all goes well :)
