Traditional king cakes don't have pecans and raisins. They have an interior similar to cinnamon rolls.

In France this cake os called "Chinois" (chinese). Our king cake is made with frangipane. Glad to see this part of your culture and how it has changed with time and different environments. Greetings from France. :)

***** The history is fun. This cake is originally german and called "Schneckenkuchen" (cake that looks like a snail, that's what it means). But it was so difficult to pronounce that the french importers said: "De toute façon pour moi c'est du chinois" (literally: "Anyway, for me it's chinese"). This expression in France means that you don't understand anything. So they started to call the cake "chinois" and to sell it as "chinois".

I’ve never had a kings cake with raisins or pecans When doing this recipe, just leave out the pecans and raisins if you want a traditional Kings cake!

I love your videos, and at 14 years old they've made me a better dessert chief than my parent. You guys are definitely one of the best. That's why I have to ask, can you please post a video on how to make pocky? (A Japanese cookie in the shape of a stick). I've been looking for a good one for weeks but can't seem to find one. And they only sell the packages of pocky in asian super markets. So please?

You can skip the nuts, Maria “rock” Cruz. In this recipe, nuts are used more as a garnish than an ingredient. You may leave them out if you wish.

Thanks for your question, Abby. The best fillings for this cake are going to be dry fillings. This means mixtures of spices and sugar. Cream cheese will melt when it's heated and will run out of the cake so we don't recommend it.

@Abby Yuan It is common to add cream cheese to the King Cake filling (much moreso than pecans or raisins). New Orleans native Charlie Andrews recently posted a version of King Cake using cream cheese on RU-vid. Look him up for wonderful authentic versions of all types of New Orleans cuisine! 🙂

If you want to make the traditional recipe for King Cake, the answer is "yes," KK JUICE. Otherwise, feel free to leave them out.

Most of the king cakes I've eaten do not have raisins, so no, you do not need them for a "traditional" king cake. I am a NOLA native and I have been eating and making king cakes for more than 40 years.

You are correct! I’ve never had king cake with raisins nor encountered any bakery along the Gulf Coast nor in New Orleans that adds raisins. Not even the “specialty” King Cakes has raisins.

Because "The Three Kings" were searching for the baby King (Jesus). That's why it's called a King's Cake - it's based on the Magi legend. They explain it here: www.mardigrasneworleans.com/kingcakes.html
