Let me know if you want a pantry video for konafa. There's a few different ways you can use it in both savoury and sweet applications, and I think it would be cool to make. Hope you enjoyed the video, and if you're interested in supporting the show, check out our patreon. www.patreon.com/MiddleEats.
hi, i think you have the best channel about middle eastern cuisine for english speaking people. i wanted to ask you, if you could show how to make ليمون مخلل, and basbousa (not in the same video though 😜)
I know I’m commenting 3 years late, but I’m a Kuwaiti student of a Syrian mother in the UK who just started her cooking passion to feed my friends and remind mom of back home, I’ve been missing our food and your channel was the best thing I discovered, thank you for all your hardwork!!
FINALLY a khunafa recipe! For people who have never tried it: It actually tastes reaaaaaally good. You might think the cheese would be salty against the sugar, but if made correctly it is a perfect blend of creamy cheese with crispy kunefa, and a milky flavour with just enough sweetness. It can also be made with cream cheese, so if you're a little sceptical about this you can try it that way too!
I'm glad I tried out this dessert in Istanbul 3 hours before my flight (right before the Covid-19 thing started). Even though it was a shop near the bazaar and probably a little bit of a tourist trap, it still tasted good. Later I almost jumped when I found there's "Kunefe" in Trader Joe's frozen section (US supermarket chain).
As a Kuwaiti student studying in the UK, your channel is exactly what I've been looking for when I'm craving something from home. Glad youtube recommended a video from your channel. Really great content, you can really tell the amount of work you put into these videos. Keep going and your channel will def blow up very soon :).
Wow the only person to actually explain everything clearly. Especially the draining of mozzarella and which to use . I have binge watched so many Once again thank you for an amazing video. Tomorrow’s iftar dessert sorted
So I made this over the weekend , I can say this was amazing !!! After trying so many kunafas from so many shops. This was the best!! Thank you keeping the video so simple and easy to Follow. Can you please make a video on chickpea fatteh Once again thank you.
I just made this! In fact I’m eating it now as I type with a nice cup of tea. I was skeptical, but WOW! I did add a smidge of sugar to the dough and I only had fresh mozzarella. So I combined it with ricotta. I made individual portions in a muffin tin as this was an experiment for traveling with it. It all worked! I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks for sharing these recipes and for sharing tips to help make these recipes more accessible to those of us who might not have the right ingredients on hand. I'm an American mom who is always looking for ways to introduce a variety of foods and cultures to my household so these videos are always so descriptive and detailed. Thanks!!!
No problem at all! I've actually covered some specific ingredients in my pantry episodes and how you can use them for sweet and savoury dishes, it helps you get new ideas.
For a second I thought the orange was saffron. I recently ate this and it is so delicious! can’t get enough, I eat it every week now😅. I’ve been trying Iranian/Turkish/Palestine food lately and am very impressed, everything I have tried has amazing flavor, such beautiful food & traditions! I wish more places cooked this type of food here in Mexico.
I absolutely love künefe and order it everytime as a desert when I’m in a Turkish restaurant! Come to Germany, we have large Turkish grocery stores where you’ll find almost everything that is used in Turkish/Arabic cuisine haha
Now I better understand your struggles in bringing some of these recipes to us. This one had a challenge at every step, especially when lacking a Middle Eastern market. Well done.
Haha yeah it can be quite tough, especially when the ingredients are hard to find or common substitutes do not work. For some reason some people make it with ricotta too, but I don't think that is a good replacement at all. Thank you
Knafa is one of my favorite desserts but it’s sooo hard to get here in the states!!! Thanks so much for sharing this. I’ll definitely be making this a lot
I'm studying in Egypt and i tried once and now, whenever I'm going to the supermarket I always buy a piece. It's so delicious and definitely I will try this recipe. Thanks :)
Oh my god, I have been looking for an easy to follow recipe for Kunafa for so long. This is perfect. Being in Southeast Asia, sourcing the pastry will be a challenge though, but I'm not kidding when I say that I think Kunafa is easily one of the best desserts in the world.
I love this dish so so so much!! What I use instead of clarified butter (because it’s cheaper where I live) is mascarpone & the cheese I go for is pepperjack because I’m a sucker for the salty/sweet/spicy combo. I go as far as sprinkle just a bit of Malden salt on top with pistachios. Another great thing is if you’re doing it on the stovetop - to pour the simple syrup directly into the hot pan & kunefe, i love the bits of crispies that creates. Thank you for the baking alternative to this recipe!! It shall definitely be useful! Love your channel very much!
i have an arab bestfriend and she introduced me to this dessert. i fell in love with it at first sight and here i am watching this video bc i’m curious how kunafa is made 🤩🤩 as a cheese lover, i would dig in this dessert :>
Every time i go to dubai and eat out i ALWAYS get this dessert ! I Absolutly love it and feel the need to make it at home now im out the country ! Will defo try out this recipe!
I thank RU-vid for recommending you. I am in Philippines and our Middle Eastern food selections here are not diverse, shawarma is not even a legit shawarma (only homemade middle eastern people sell legit ones). I can't wait to try one of your recipes.
Was trying to keep the comment lighthearted but just can’t. My heart breaks knowing that these beautiful traditions, cuisines, cultures are getting ethnically cleansed, free Palestine! I hope Palestine is free one day, and these ever so beautiful traditions will continue to flourish and be recognised for its origin and not by its oppressors! Viva falastin 🇵🇸
In this case, I'm so happy to report that all these traditions, cuisines and cultures are thriving, there are more Palestinians than ever before, and even those nasty bad oppressors have themselves been converted to love knafe almost as much as the Palestinians themselves. I'm really thrilled I was able to make your day, have a great one!
If you think this culture and traditions are cleansed you've clearly never been to Israel... There are more Palestinian restaurants and Knafe places in particular than one could count
@@arielnitzav2181 ironic considering your colonial ethnostate destroyed palestine, ethnically cleansed the natives and now claiming our food and culture in order to erase us entirely. and we've been fighting ever since to not get erased
Thats so awesome im going to make this today i belongto india but have been living in the uae for quite a long time and am a die hard fan of kunafa. Hail palestine
I love love love künefe! I've eaten the turkish version often and it's unbelivable, that so many people have probably never had a taste of this. There is nothing like it!
I am quite sad about how good this video is and how well you explained it. The only thing stopping me from eating Kunafa everyday was the lack of knowledge to make it. Now that you have taught me that so well, I am doomed.
Woohoo, new recipe! Where did you get your low moisture mozzarella block in London? I have such a hard time finding it for my pizzas! I end up using kesar cheese from Turkey as a close substitute.
Thanks. The massive block was from Costco, you can get it at any large wholesaler too. Waitrose also have a Galvani low moisture fresh mozzarella which is fantastic. Hope you find them easily.
If you want to get the orange color without using dyes you can add a bit of sugar to the dough along with the ghee. The sugar will caramelize and turn golden/orange when cooked.
The Palestinian Version of kunafe is unmatched, they just know what they're doing. This is coming from a Lebanese man. Love my Palestinian brothers and sisters. Free Palestine.
Gorgeous recipe. We put another layer of knafeh on top, and we don't flip it out, just serve the pieces from the pan. But either way, it's not to be missed...my favourite dessert from childhood.
Every time. Made kunfa with cream some time only with napolisi chease I don't like use mazorela cheasse because when the kunfa is cold after done is chease is hard Thank u for vedio
I had utterly divine knafeh at a bakery in Amman a few years ago, and also a very good one in Ramallah a bit later. As I've not been able to find any quite as good in the Arab markets or restaurants where I live, I'll try my hand at making it myself!
@@IADHDD yeah it’s not great but depending on where you live it might be the best option! It’s so much better if you are able to get it from a legit bakery or make it yourself though
Wow, I might try this version. I am turkish and in our version of kunafa the cheese gets sandwiched between two layers of kadayıf. This version is probably better for cheese lovers like me 🥰
I'm so happy that you did a Konafa recipe! My brother and I are very intrigued by this dish. We've had it once before and we love it, but we've been wanting to make it ourselves and waiting for the right recipe. We will definitely be making this recipe soon, thank you for this!
Künefe is traditional Middle East dessert made from cheese pastry soaked in sweet sugar-based syrup. It's recipe was invented by Palestinian Arabs in about the 10th century AD and came to the territory of the present Turkey a long time ago. Original Arabic name of this dessert is كُنافة that can be read like “kanafeh”.You can eat Best künefe in Turkey / Antep
I will have to try this as it's one of my husband's favorite desserts. Question any chance you could do a video on Za'atar and Manakish? They're a favorite snack food of mine but I haven't been able to make it in a moment
@middle Eats we're going to be replicating your easy to follow recipe over Ramadan ready for a Post Eid avaliablility at our Mosaic Cafe. Looks scrumptious
As long as the mozarella you're using is salty this can work, the charm of the nabulsi kunafa is the contrast between the very sweet syrup top and the salty cheese under, that way the sweetness isn't overwhelming :)
I am addicted to your channel!!! Made your chai recipe (which my whole family LOVES) and I think I will make kunefeh this weekend! Many thanks from the US, hope you are well!!
You can use vermicelli or shredded wheat cereal. You put some butter, milk sugar, on shredded wheat, use rigotta, soft tofu, cottage cheese with honey. Don't use mozarela . Use rose water or,cinamon or orange water or peel, cardomom in sugar syrup.
