HI, This will last for a long time in an air tight jar. Since there is no water in the formula you don't have to worry about microbial contamination, however the oils can eventually oxidize and turn rancid. If you want to make a larger batch or keep it for longer and use less you can always add vitamin E to it to help reduce oxidation. Also make sure you cap it after use to reduce the amount of air exposure. Have fun! - Regina video presenter from RD Alchemy Natural Products in San Diego, CA
Thank you. It worked. I used regular liquid lanolin, so I added a bit more beeswax. I was afraid it would be sticky as liquid lanolin is super sticky, but at these ratios salve is not sticky.
Thanks, I am planning on using a similar recipe with a little less avocado oil, to use for grafting fig tree cuttings, to protect the grafts from drying out.
my great Aunt used to make what we called "aunt Millies salve" .She was a WW1 army nurse and used to make Candles and this salve that was incredible for cracked hands... She would send it to all the members of the family along with a batch of her candles (bayberry hand dipped) .. I want to make that salve again cause I have such dry hands..
I had eczema for 40 years, and was using a prescription lotion to keep the worst of it away. Finally realized I was allergic to dairy. After I quit consuming dairy, ALL symptoms of eczema have gone and not returned.
I came here because of the lanolin and beeswax, and creams usually involve other ingredients so this is a salve. I would have been here sooner if you called it that - that said, I am going to make this for my daughter's acne by adding tea tree and lavender essential oils. I bought a similar product from the health food shop, and I am very happy to now know how to make my own :)
If you don’t add water you don’t have to add preservatives, you can literally mix whatever fats and waxes together without worries just don’t add water.
I am trying to replicate the stickiness of the wax ring used to seal toilets to the floor. But those use petroleum products which I want to avoid. I am trying to make a carrier salve to put on horse feet to fight off bacteria and fungi from eating away the hoof and need a super sticky carrier to hold the ingredients that fight off the bacteria/fungi. Any suggestions?
I am wondering with the ingredients if I wanted to make a greater amount do I just double the amount?2 tblsp lanolin2 tablsp bees wax 2 cups of oiland can you mix the oil (coconut & almond ) (avocado & coconut) or do you need to use the same one??Thank you in advance for your response.Tammy
I so need a face cream as just oils don't seem to work (argon oil). Would this work? I see everyone using it as a salve.. Would distilled water add moisture if using as a face cream?
Just blend it after it cold down to turn this into a cream. Water will thin it and make it like a Lotion but if you add water then you must add a preservative to prevent bacteria build up
no. its for very very dry or cracking skin. many communities use petroleum jelly but i don't like to put anything on my skin that i cannot put in my mouth; Petroleum is made from petrol. If you wanted whitening cream, add some titanium dioxide to the mix. Its a powder used in sun screen, make up products and cold process soaping
HI Valentina, I learned everything from You Tube videos like yourself lol! Just kidding, I went to ASU and UA and got my degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology with an emphasis in Natural Product and Medicinal Chemistry. Stainless steel is preferred over plastic or wood as those hold bacteria more readily. You can leave the mixture out if you like, but may start growing nasties sooner than later. Since we aren't preserving these recipes and they are designed to be used within a few days you'll want to get them into the big box asap.
Hi Max, no worries. Those video shots of me touching the lovely ingredients were taken after we recorded all 10 videos as part of the B-roll magic of Hollywood. No ingredients were harmed in the making of these short films. :) Regina
