I completely forgot to talk about why I chose to work with the calendula. I like the Calendula flower because it has so many good properties. You can eat the flower as it is and inside the body it works a bit anti inflammatory and for some pain relief. On the outside it helps your skin to keep its moisture, it helps to heal wounds and skin cracks and can help with eczema or problems with psoriasis. Read more about the calendula and decide for yourself if this is a herb for you. I love it! /Tova Link to my blogpost about the salve with the recipe: www.talasbuan.com/english-blog/2021/5/25/lanolin-and-beeswax-salve

Thank you Tova for sharing the benefits of the Calendula flower. On the previous video when you referred to the wool short pants that you put on Ivar to hold the nappies, you mentioned lanolized, or something that sounded similar to that. Is this save something use apply to the wool short pants to waterproof the nappie cover pants?

@Mono Vision - I know this is ‘yet another’ ingredient and you have to decide for yourself if you are happy with where you source it from, (but for me it is worth it because it doubles the time before it goes rancid). I add vitamin E capsules to my salve, I pierce the gelatin capsule and squirt it in (and stir) just before I pour it into the jars. (For the size of jars Tuva has I would use one capsule per jar). It helps to always keep your jars tightly sealed and in a cool dark place too. I hope this helps.

Hello Tova! As a trainer in natural cosmetics I say: Well done! Clear and complete explanations, bravo! And as I know "a little" about the subject, here is some additional information: - First, and importantly, some people are allergic to lanolin - although some studies suspect additives or the fact that sheep are not "organic" rather than lanolin itself, I think it's good to point this out. - Secondly, for those who don't want to use animal products (or who find it difficult to find quality ones) some vegetable butters can replace animal wax and fat, such as shea or coconut butter. - Finally, to get a softer balm texture, you can make a chantilly! Just whip the liquid while it cools, and then put it in jars :) You can speed up the cooling process by putting the pan in cold water (or snow ;) ) And you can also add a little bit of cornstarch - organic of course - for a less greasy feel. Here you go, I hope it will be useful :)

On eczema, it is better to try a new ingredient at a time. If the first helps and don't react, you can try another one, after a fey days or 1 or 2 weeks. Here, for example, begin with oil + calendula only. And to moisture your skin, you could try à good organic aloe vera gel too, over the calendula oil (without alcool and perfume and others... the less ingredients, the best!)

I just love this video. Mostly because I am a medicinal herbalist and I make all my own herbal medications as well as a salve that treats most skin issues from eczema to nappy rash. The last batch I made I did not measure the lavender EO..accidentally slopped about a tablespoon full of it in!!!!!and also used too much bees wax. My batch was large..about 40oz about 1200ml I'm old.. 61 and I take to heart your very good advice to write down every step to know what needs to be adjusted , next time. I did not write it down and my batch will last a couple of years so.. I will NOT remember what I did or did not do.

Thank you for your video - I make my own salve also using various ingredients but the bases are always organic olive oil - shea butter - beeswax and sunflower oil. My infusions vary with season- this year I am making dandelion infused olive oil and calendula infused olive oil and I really like my spruce tip salve made by soaking young spruce tips in olive oil and then using the same method you use making a salve - this one is great for skin and very healing. It is very empowering to be able to make your own skin care products and they are much healthier and much more economical. I have rendered beef tallow for soap making and it is a lot of work but I have to say it makes the best transparent bar of soap.I have not considered using beef tallow in salve but can certainly see the value. You are such a beautiful intelligent woman. I love your lifestyle and sincere dedication to it. May I ask...Does the beef tallow cause the salve to putrefy or go bad more quickly? What could one use in place of tallow if they have no access to it? Ahh calendula! ❤️ Your calendula flowers are AMAZING! I never gave much credit to salves and organic products. (Even being a biologist, I sided w western medicine) Then I moved to the desert mountains of NEW MEXICO. I, too, have lived on the edge of the woods in the mountains for about 7 yrs. Mostly alone. NM has 0% humidity. My skin cracked and lips bled. My hair became brittle and dry. Although cooler due to high elevation... SO DRY & my skin burned in 10 minutes, without even being aware! I tried all kinds of medicated lotions and OTC salves. Finally, I purchased an organic calendula salve stick. I was in DISBELIEF of how wonderfully and quickly it worked! It was soo soothing! It was magic. The scent was subtle and soothing. I can’t get calendula to grow for me. 😟 Any herb or flower growing tips would be so appreciated... by anyone who has the patience to read this novel. (Lengthy posts are a result of living solo. I’m busy, but lonely at times) I did just find a half acre of wild yarrow on my property. I’m not sure what to do with it. I also found tons of white sage... which is common , but the first I’ve seen of it on my land in 7 yrs. I try to make my own skin care products- mainly lotions and creams because I live in a desert. My main issue is preventing it from melting. Another difficulty is being able to grow anything in this dry earth! I have jumped on a shovel to break the ground and succeeded in only breaking my ankle. The earth is also hydrophobic. Water just runs off and evaporates. Then we get monsoons and floods. It’s tricky. On a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT subject...Forgive me. I hate to say this, because you’re very much your own unique lovely self... but they way you speak, enunciate, even pause between words reminds me very much of ...Elon Musk? 😂. Seriously. Thats Not a bad thing... just interesting. Ok... I just subbed to you! So happy I found you my sweet dear! Off I go to binge watch your vids!

Haven't had any problems with the tallow so far, have a salve with tallow that is maybe 1 year old and it's still OK! Mixtures to use can be beeswax+oliveoil or beeswax +oliveoil +lanolin. Calendula have been easy to grow for me, make a raised bed in a box or something for them to grow in, water every evening. Yarrow is nice, make a oil with them (like I did with calendula) good for example menstrual cramps, put salve on stomach or healing wounds etc Good luck! Tova

I had to switch from chapstick (was using Burt's Bees for a long time) to using pure lanolin a few years ago. I like the idea of an herbal salve with some lanolin in it.

May I ask, where did you find lanolin? Thank you!
@HFTLH
@HFTLH 3 года назад
@@MiddleEastMilli for chapstick I just buy the stuff they sell for nursing mothers, called Lansinoh brand. It comes in a purple tube. I also bought some lanolin in bulk off of Amazon, to use for making my own products.

I do make calendula salve for myself and my family, lately have tested Plantain oil salve with 1/4 beeswax, the kids love it and our skin too. Also make dandelion oil salve (sometimes I mix dandelion and calendula, or plantain) but not with lanolin. Maybe I should try. For eczema these salves are much much better than specific products sold at the pharmacy or on prescription. My 8 year old now only wants the home made salve on his skin. For info plantain is quite good for insect bites and scratches . Keep going love your chanel, so inspiring

Never heard of using plantain in salve, have only made crackers with it, haha. Never thought about doing it with dandelion either, must try it out! Thank you so much!

I love the idea of making the salve with natural ingredients. I’ll save this recipe. I prefer the solidity of the last batch. It melts quickly in the palm an onto the legs and arms. Are you expecting? How did I miss this?

Thank you Trudy! I have used the wild pansy (heartsease), it's good for eczema and skin problems . Don't know about the regular planted/potted pansy, you will have to investigate :)
