RayvinnWolf, she states over and over and over again that it's a personal preference and I am still at a loss that no matter how many times she says HER recipe that she was kind enough to share can be changed to fit PERSONAL preferences gets picked apart by people just being rude. If folks don't like it, don't use it. Simple.

This is one of the most informative lotion making videos on RU-vid. So many people are looking to take the quick/easy route, not understanding that they're putting themselves and others at risk by not properly preserving their products. Vitamin E and grapeseed extract are not preservatives! If you're going to make bodycare products...do it right or just don't do it at all.

This recipe turned out brilliant. Lovely texture, spreads wonderfully on the skin and isn't greasy. A winner I'd say. Thank you so much Bramble Berry! ps: she's so right that we got to work quickly when pouring into the bottles, it really does set up quickly and you will no longer be able to pour it smoothly. Loads of extra work from that point onwards! Such is life, oh well.

My lotion....left out the stearic and the shea. Used germaben ....rice bran, olive, and safflower. A little almond scent and done. Very thick.... not greasy. I love it! You suggested the ewax I used....that was surprising....first it just stayed liquid....then it burbed and turned into a thick moisturizing cream! Thank you,!!!

+laokkin rentnak Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I absolutely love Bellingham, it's amazing up here. =) This lotion can be used for the face depending on your skin type! It's a very moisturizing lotion, so if your skin is on the oily side it may be a bit heavy. If it's a bit drier, this recipe will work very well. Also, I do recommend the stearic acid. It helps emulsify and thicken the lotion nicely. Read more about formulating lotion recipes here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/how-to-create-homemade-lotion-recipes/ We also have a few lotion recipes for the face you may like! Curve -Appolis I think Optiphen ND would work well! It's a paraben and formaldehyde free preservative. You can use it at .5-1.5% in your recipe. We used it in the Argan Oil Shampoo, which feels great on hair: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/sizzling-summer-hair-argan-oil-shampoo/ Read more about preservatives here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/talk-it-out-tuesday-preservatives/

Hi, Ms. Anne Marie Thank you for sharing this video! I have some questions. Can I use Coconut oil instead of Sweet Almond oil? And is it okay to use Lavender oil in this recipe? Madison
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 лет назад
Hi Madison! You can use coconut oil, but keep in mind it is solid at room temperature. That means your lotion may be a little thicker. A small test batch may be helpful. =) Also, you can absolutely use lavender essential oil in this recipe! Just make sure it's skin safe. You can use our Fragrance Calculator to find out exactly how much to add: www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Fragrance-Calculator.aspx

Can you add mica in small amounts to the lotions? Or can you only add mica to products you're going to be rinsing off?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 лет назад
Hi Jeannine! You can add micas to your lotion! We recommend adding starting out with 1/8 tsp. per pound of lotion and adding more if you want it darker. It also helps to mix your colorant with your fragrance oil before adding it to your lotion. That way it mixes in nicely. =)

I really noticed Phenonip gives off an odor. Every time I use this preservative on my lotion, my customers say the lotion smells like "product". I bought the kit about a year ago, and everybody seems to love the lotion! One recommendation though - the bottles that Anne-Marie used, which are the same that come with the kit, are not the best containers for this lotion. It's pretty thick, so I bought some tubes that allow gravity to pull the lotion down. That's my only complaint. lol Now that it's November, I think it's time for me to make some more, to give as gifts!

+Valleri Thomas So glad you love the lotion Valleri! It makes amazing gifts for friends and family. =) We found the bottles that come with the kit work well, but you can also use tubes if you like! You can also add up to 80% water to your recipe to help thin the lotion out a bit. I just wanted to make sure that people understand you can't "STERILIZE" your equipment, implements, etc. Only hospital grade machines can "STERILIZE". You can disinfect or sanitize things like that, not sterilize them. I think explaining the difference is extremely important just so they know that there's always a germ or two left. Which nothing can be done to prevent and will be as safe as possible. Your products and tools will be as clean as they can get without using a hospital grade machine but not completely sterile. I hope I don't overstep.....I wash and disinfect/sanitize body tools and other products in my line of work. So this kind of thing is embedded in my brain.lol By the way, I love your channel so much!!! You're amazing! I apologize if I overstepped my boundaries. ;-)

Hi Dan Reed! You can substitute with olive oil if you like! Keep in mind that meadowfoam oil is more lightweight than olive oil, so it will change the consistency of the lotion. I would recommend making a small test batch to check the consistency. =)

I tried this recipe today. It's a little too watery for me, but I enjoyed making it.
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 8 лет назад
Glad you're enjoying that recipe! If you prefer thicker lotion, you can add less water. Lotion typically has 70-80% water, so you can add closer to 70% to make it thicker. =) Read more about formulating lotion here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/how-to-create-homemade-lotion-recipes/

I’m confused Why am I not using a preservative in my melt and pour soaps ? Your videos are so helpful !! Getting the books 📚 for research 🧐

Great question! The melt and pour soap has a high enough pH level that prevents bacteria growth without a preservative.

great video i have a question when it comes to the preservative and using percentage. I'm using optiphen to preserve my hair lotion and hair spray both i want to be about 8oz.. how do i know how much to use for a particular amount? unclear on how to calculate the usage for preservative. please help me i really don't want to damage my scalp with any growth.
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 лет назад
Hi Kimmy8188! You want to use Optiphen around .5-1.5%. To figure that out, you can use a search engine! Simply type "1% of 8 oz" in the search engine. Mine gave me 2.2 grams. Then, I typed "2.2 grams in ounces," which gave me .08 oz, or 2 mL. Then you can use our droppers to easily measure out the mL amounts. Hope that helps! =) Droppers: www.brambleberry.com/Droppers-With-Suction-Bulb-P3802.aspx

I am born with dry skin, and as I am getting older, it is drier. I have purchased a great many commercial lotions, creams, oils, and butters over the years, with the hope their promises of renewed, healthier, blah, blah, blah skin will happen. After looking at number of instructional videos, your video seems to make the most sense to me. I do beliieve I can make a cream, lotion, or butter to drench my skin with the stick-to-the-skin benefits promised by commercial producers. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and how-to. I will be making product for myself soon. One question: What other oils are used in making lotions, creams, or butters?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 лет назад
Hi Terri! So glad you like the tutorial! I hope this lotion helps soothe your dry skin. =) As for which oils to use, it's definitely personal preference! Avocado oil and avocado butter are great to add because they have awesome moisturizing properties. Jojoba oil is another oil known for its moisturizing properties. I would recommend trying out a couple oils and seeing which ones you like best. You can find a list of oils to use in your lotion, and what properties they have, here: www.brambleberry.com/Fixed-Oils-Waxes-C159.aspx You may also like body butter. It is made up of all butters and oils, making it very thick and moisturizing. =) Whipped Body Butter: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/how-to-make-whipped-body-butter-on-soap-queen-tv/ Whipped Champagne Shea Butter: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/12-days-christmas-whipped-champagne-shea-butter/

You should put in a warning about microwaving distilled water. It WILL NOT bubble if it reaches boiling point because it lacks impurities that it allow it to. Should it become super-heated, it can boil explosively when it comes in contact with impurities of some kind which can result in serious burns.
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 10 лет назад
Hello! That hasn't been my personal experience, but it is always a good idea to heat your water on short bursts in the microwave so it doesn't get too hot. Thanks for the reminder! =)
