Lol took me 8 hours for my figma low fi prototype. True novices going through this course in a week is simply unfathomable . I went into this thinking it was going to be about cute fonts and color gradients however this course is not for lazy people. He is right there were a huge number of enrollments and now there are less than a few thousand that truly continue after the 1st one. I just finished course 3 and I’m now in course 4 and it is very challenging. I look at my work from just two months ago and already I see the huge improvements. I would say so far I love it.
Good to hear! Those who make it through the entire course with actual projects (i.e. the hard work) will have pretty big chances of making a really good portfolio and that's what ultimately matters. Good luck!
@@canines I got all my certificates. Prototyped an app and did competitive audits. It was very eye opening and yes it is hard but learning a new skill for $40 a month is a no brainer.
@@rorymacdonald7529 for quality work id say a year. I just did it to learn something new or as a backup plan. As we see with the recent firings in the tech world if try something a lil more stable unless it's your lifelong passion.
@Zoal Graphics the most interesting part is that you can use Google surveys and reddit and Facebook for your research and they never mentioned it. I'm a complete beginner and that information would be useful. However,I like the course anyway. Maybe they didn't want people to be overwhelmed
Thanks for picking up on the participation falloff. I am in #6 now and, while I know I am faster than most (meaning: I have al the time I want to complete it) it is very quiet. But I agree, this is a good thing and typical for any course of studies. BTW, course 6 is all about designing a responsive website.
Before I start any level I come to see your review I want to thank you for pointing out the visual result in the second level because I made my own visual identity away from their design In fact, it was effective advice and all the peers in the review praised this step
Finished the second course, that research project had myself in writers block mode for over a week. I definitely can feel the drop off point of this so far. Definitely glad I can finally do some type of designing.
Great info! I'm working on my low fi protoype and using figma for the first time this week. It's a lot more work then the previous courses as you stated, but seeing my improvement is very rewarding! Thank you for your reviews on this course and for confirming my own thoughts and feelings while I'm going through this.
This video was very helpful, I like the google certificate program , I am learning alot of new things. I am a graphic designer and I am very excited about UX design ! Thank you.
One of the things that I actually don't like in this course (I'm currently enrolled in 3rd course) is peer reviews. In the beginning, I thought that my projects/assignments and progress will be reviewed by professionals/experienced ux designers, but, instead, people like me who have no experience "judge" my progress. Also, as you mentioned, there are a lot of people who don't really take the course seriously, so how can I be sure that somebody actually took the time to check my submissions and come up with some recommendations. When I noticed this (lazy/unmotivated/here for certificate only people) tendency I kind of lost my interest for a bit, but then I decided to continue for myself, still trying to give 100% to assignments, reading extra material. I just hope that people who show off their certificates without really studying won't hurt too much the way recruiters/hr/companies look at other students of this course who take it seriously.
Some really good observations! Really like the content. Does give me a perspective of what I should expect while hiring candidates for my own company. Also keeping in mind if I want to train them these courses might be a good place to start. Keep up the great work! Will be following your work.
Hi again! :) I think that you make the most useful and the best quality designing content here on RU-vid. All the other tutorials like "I'll show you how to make an app like this" (and the app looks ugly as hell) are amateurs compared to you! That's why im thinking of buying your book. Do you recommend it for complete beginners as well? Will I be able to understand and use it? Thanks again for the review, im just finishing course 2 but definitely will complete all 7!
Hi! Thanks so much! The book is aimed at almost-beginners and up, so it does have a lot of the very basic theories (like color pairing, fonts, how screens PPI works etc) so it definitely should work for beginners. You can get 50 free pages on our website to check out the contents of the book though :) I'd advise to try that first.
As with everything really, right? If you try to ollie for a year and never lift off the ground, you may decide to go rollerblading instead ;) People get discouraged by the increasing difficulty - which sadly is a sign of our times.
@@MalewiczHype Hi! I am Ibrar and I am from Pakistan. And I just watched some of your videos so I got alot of inspiration and motivation as I am learning from the google UX design courses on coursera and I am at 2nd course so with due respect I just want you to be my mentor so I can enhance my learning and can understand everything better and also from your busy schedule if you can give me a little time to review my assignments so it would be a great help and I will be very thankful. So please kindly give me a reply ASAP if you become my mentor. I will be very grateful for this kindness.
Maybe we all could do a coursera redesign and offer them the best solution. Their UX could've been a lot better,I'm thinking about it as it could've been a great experience
I have been working as a UX designer for roughly 9 years now. I have gone through extensive training, study, NN/g certifications ect... But the topic of getting the Google-UX-Design certificate came up. Looking through the course it seems like a great start for a designer wanting to transition into UX, but, for me, a lot of it seems like it'd be a refresher. So my question to all of you, would enrolling be worth it for the certification? Does the certification carry weight above and beyond the learning aspect?
I am currently in the first section of the course. But about to start the second section. I really like the reviews you are doing, and I feel rather validated for deciding I wanted more then what google put out as a course and buying books on the topic. Currently I am reading UX Design 2020 by Theo Farrington. And the next book is going to be The Laws of Ux by Jon Yablonski. Obviously I am also searching youtube for more information or I wouldn't be here. I am just curious if there are some resources I am neglecting that I could benefit from?
The choices you mentioned for the first few parts of the course are a great start. Then some medium publications (prototypr and uxcollective). And when you get to part 5, you can also check out my book (designingui.com - there's 50 free pages on UI design on the website to try)
Thankyou. I am taking this certificate program rigth now i am in the mid of first course and i am looking forwarf to complete thw whole thing.. I am usinf financial aid. Since i cannot. Pay.. Already. Applied fot the second one too.. Hopefully i will be able to earn some money online through this course. (i previous have some knowledge of toold and designing). I hope after finishinf i can atleast make.150 dollars a month online .. In the beginning months. Since working online is my only optiob
hi can you tell me how i can apply for this?? Coursera has a terrible User interface i tried to follow the instructions but sadly i cannot find the link that directs me to apply. Extremely frustrating... Using a computer, open the course home page for the course you want to apply for Financial Aid in. Next to the information about Financial Aid or Scholarships, click Learn more and apply. ( I am completely lost in the 2nd step)
@@vancourverite7779 first of all there arw seven courses in this one program.. And u have to apply each seperately.. U can. Start woth applting one.. And then later apply for the second one in. The mid. It takes 15 days to. Get accepted.. Click thw first course. On its page next to enroll now there is finanvial aid available written in quite small letters. When u eill click that it will ask u to. Continue to the application. Once u click that follow the instructuons and complete the forms.. U may need to write your applicatio honestly and in details.
Haven't yet tried them in full, just browsed through very quickly. I plan to look into them more closely after I finish all 7 of Google's so that I can compare.
@@MalewiczHype Thank you very much for your answer! It would be very interesting to know about IDF as well, since these are the courses I hear most often about
The reason why Coursera randomises the options is because a lot of people blindly selects the the first option without reading the question or viewing the submission. It is like a form which is intentionally made hard to fill, so that we are conscious about the information. P.S. Even I hate this system.
@@MalewiczHype I just shared ur channel it very informative thanks. Well it my first time using figma soo im confuse at this moment 😅 did you see the apprenticeship google have ?
Hello Sir ! Thank you for these reviews. I started this certification and stopped. I was thinking that the number of people participating was huge. Now I have a question, not a joke. I speak French natively with some basics in English. For the first week of this Google certificate, I used Google translate. Do you think it would be wise to continue this way. Or would you advise me to stop and take time to learn English before.
I think it will get a bit more complex the more you're into the course, so not sure Google Translate will be enough to complete all assignments well. I'd say it's risky and maybe better to learn English a little better (even slightly). Good luck!
In my opinion if you truly want to you can do it. I speak Spanish which has some grammar similarities with French and before I knew English I used to use Google translate for everything I did. The formatting in the English grammar is different from ours. Buy if you understand how the grammar in English work then you can do it. I don't know about UX but I used to take courses in Medicine and they were hard but I made it. I know now English but I had my fair share of Google Translate and back in the day was way more difficult. Google translate has improved a lot since. Of course you can wait as well. But I just wanted to tell you my experience with it.
@@m__a_ Thinks for your advise. I really appreciate. I'm trying my best to have a good basics on this language. Without it, it will be difficult for me to go further, I think. Speak with another person's, work with, etcetera. It's a huge lack, so I'll fix it.🙏❤
So apparently.. less that 1k people are doing this course.. like.. right now.. that's good news.. betten than how you scared me at the week one review.. lol.. ( just have question.. well I'll ask it after you finish all the 7 review.. it'll make sense to ask then )..
Hi Mike, i am keeping up with ur reviews but to want to start this course but I am in a design college so should I start this course or my college courses are enough becz they are very time consuming
I think design college will hold more weight than this course - just continue doing what you're doing and then just be actively reading on UX online :)
My UI book already covers a lot of UX and we plan to add more chapters on some of the UX principles to it with updates. So in a way I already have done that ;)
