Excellent build, don't let anyone tell you differently. If this unit is supplied from 220vac mains, yes for safety switch both L1 and L2. If it is built for 120vac, switching the L1 is sufficient. Chassis ground is good. I am going to build one for myself from your video. 5 stars for sure!

good video friend, you know that I just missed something very vital that is the explanation for those people who are newbies and do not know where you bought the pieces for the power bank and the pieces with which you armed the dealers of materials. At least what I think is that you should give the details of the video in writing, either in the video in the comments or say what the pieces are and how they can be obtained, so that the people who watch your videos are made easier to learn what you show.

Really nice build video! Suggestion: Use some plastic grommets on the cables coming out of the case or some type of finger stock plastic edging for the holes. Over time the metal case could pierce the wire jacket on the high-current cables and short.

Good idea, cheer for that. I did not liked 2 things - you have 2 pole switch, why you didn't use it, for both the live and neutral ? And where you connect the earth wire ? Fix these 2 potentially life hazard thing's, and you have a great build.

I agree about the good ideas this channel offers, but I'm sorry to disagree with you about those safety issues you mentioned. I think you are being a little too cautious for this kind project. Not everything needs to be idiot proof! It's not as if this contraption was designed to be sold, as is, to the average consumer. I don't mean to dismiss your good intentions, but I feel that too much caution may eventually lead to a paralyzing effect on the motivation and confidence of the prospective builder. And that is detrimental to the goal of spreading the word about the joys of tinkering and the satisfaction of having built something yourself. Here's my take on those issues. - Earth(ground) connection to case: Unnecessary. All primary AC connections are solid and well insulated. The ground would only be useful if one of those soldered, insulated connections came loose. Think about that for a second. If those connections were damaged to the point where one of them comes loose, the whole device would have taken such a beating that perhaps plugging it to the mains wouldn't be such a good idea at all. Common sense would kick in, one would hope. If not, --> Darwin Award! - Using the other pole of the DPST switch for the Neutral wire: Again, unnecessary. When the Live wire is disconnected by the switch, the Neutral becomes irrelevant. Having it connected without interruption to the input jack is actually safer, and saves you time and effort.
@vanco0o0o
@vanco0o0o 7 лет назад
@Robert Cartier First I will answer you'r response, and then I will extend my opinion. First - grounding - it's essential you have a transformer, that works in unnatural way - it's designed for so much watts and amps, and for tight winding(when this transformer has been build was with 2 windings, winded tightly, so some of the vibration are canceled, also is mounted on rubber). So from vibrations of the transformer, that has not so tigh winding now, when is heavy loaded(not like previous when it is in intended operational mode), then the primary winding can scratch itself, and expose a live connection to the metal lamination, or/and on the case. Other case is some of the wires inside, for whatever reason becomes live and make case live too. Second - I don't know where you live, but this plug (schuko) don;t have polarity it's reversible, not like UK plug, so how do you know that the live wire is disconnected from the switch. After you'r comment I realize, that these flaws are so much dangerous than I mentioned in first place. This build will be attended to build by people that don't understand what are they doing, and make some mistakes, that are DANGEROUS FOR THEIR LIVE, so creator must try to build safe builds, and must follow basic safety rules. Plus these two things are soooo easy to resolve(split existing cable in 2, and run it thru the switch, and making ground wire from the connector to the case) I don't see a point why you can't understand that they are soo important for safety, especially for this kind of project, that is watched and build by normal people without knowledge, just following the steps in video, and how these rules for safety will cripple the creator(builder).

Thanks. I'm thinking about making this. Everyone else has mentioned ground wiring, no need to revisit. I'd also look at putting an insulator between the two electrodes. A little piece of FR4 wedged and glued into the wood between the two electrodes where the twist is would work epic.

I have created my own perfect timing module with which you cannot only adjust time of preweld, delay and weld, but also power of the preweld and weld. It is programmed in Arduino and very stable. Visualisation of all parameters at once happens on a tft screen and parameters can easily be changed using two rotary buttons. One for selecting a parameter, the other to change it. Parameters can also be saved so you don't need to set them everytime... it uses a random fire SSR for adjustable power and it's far more better now than those sunkko trash welders from China. Prewelding with less power avoids those annoying sparks! The final weld can then be done with full power...

im looking at the timer circuit you put in the description and the schematics are confusing me, it shows it is a 12 volt working current, does it only allow voltage from the wall go through the relay only and it needs a second power source to trip the circuit? also i agree with mistrzZen about adding a grounding wire to the metal case.

Literally exactly what I was thinking while watching this. Also, I think it's really important that you put some sort of grommet around where the main power cables come out of the case. There's too much risk of the case cutting through those wires no matter how round you make it right there, especially because it is being articulated from there.

Thank you for a very informative video, do you find the copper erodes away quite fast, a couple of tungsten dart tips would work and last longer.

Great video, but would like to see more technical information here. What is the timer functionality here for? Is to disconnect the power? If so I Can use switch. Circuit diagram would be appreciated as well for ease to DIY.

Hello my friend!This amazing, great video!! I will definitely build one. My quwstion is do you have to use the timer? wouldnt simply pressing the button directly do the same thing?

Nice Vid.. the timing module you used, the link you have provided is for a different unit, rated at 10A..

before you build the circuit check the rating of the MosFet/IGBT on your timer as it may not be able to handle the current, in case of 800 watts it should be rated for 800 / 230 = 3.47 A (EU, 3.5 amps or higher) // 800 / 115 = 6,95 (US and Belgium, 7 amps or higher)

Thanks for the video.lt seems to work nicely but what is the purpose of all the electronics? Wouldn't a simple switch do the job of supplying power to the transformer?

where the 2 thick wires come out of the metalcase over time the cable isolation can get cut from the sharp corners. You should enforce the insolation at these 2 points. also earth the case for your own safety.

Nice! Now you can weld together your own battery packs.

Great machine although the exposed live electrical is super dangerous to even the experienced user, that should be covered up. Also you should use the earth terminal to ground the metal casing and the transformer all well as create a hookup for a grounding bracelet.

Where O Where can you find that same exact Timer Module(bet you hear this allot)! I built my first Battery tab welder and I had to use a double relay with an adjustable capacitor I made(4 settings). Its a pretty decent size after I completed it. but it works Perfect. The one you made would fit nicely in my set up instead. I could use the one mentioned in the link, but I really like the Potentiometer one you used. That system looks made for this. I could purchase one like the one in the link, with a small pot and replace, but it would be nice to have one as close as possible to the one you used. If you made this from scratch, I really think a video with the schematics and the how to would be AWESOME!!! If you know where I can just purchase, would also be Great! No Matter, this is one of the best how to's I have seen on RU-vid. Great Video!!!! Keep up the Great Work!!

Is there anything that can be done to stiffen the copper contacts? Heat treating them perhaps?

just a question : i took appart one of this transformers and i was amazed by how much dust does this produce, does this dust contains asbesto ? (since is common to use this material as a dielectric)
