I am so excited to have found your video. I have opened my own alterations service business in my home this year. Your video encourages me that this can actually work. Please please continue to teach what you have learned.

Thanks will do if you get stuck with anything or need advice message me and I will help I would say start looking for a shop because you will be able to get a good price on rent at the moment. Because a lot of people don't like going to someone's house. They just like dropping into a shop so if you do decide to open a shop make sure they is parking in front or very near stay safe

Thank you Louise! I struggle to be satisfied with what people are willing to pay for sewing, and nowadays it can be such isolating work. I think I’d be faster if I didn’t have to do it alone for hours. It gets my energy down and I do things slower than if I were sewing for myself inspired! That’s something I learned about myself. I enjoy being an alterations fitter on film sets because I can be surrounded my people and I can focus. Looking forward to getting back to it

I know the feeling so well I worked once on a film set and loved every minute the fast place really inspires me. I put the radio on really loud with fast beat music that helps me stay safe things should get to normal hopefully soon

Not sure if you are on RU-vid anymore but I have just come over to both of your videos about sewing alterations as a business. This has to be the most helpful video I have come across. I had no idea they had systems to record bookings and manage payments etc (Geelus). This has been a game-changer. I was wondering how I was going to keep track of clients' orders. Not a problem now. I loved how the video was straight to the point. Thanks a lot

Your voice sounds so honest and I also find it soothing to my ear. Now, I also want to ask you, how can I make myself known? I worked 35 years for the State of Texas. When I retired in 2006, I did it because I don't knew that I was being looked at. I was coming in late, about one hour late because I just couldn't jump out of bed and get my motor going. I had trouble sleeping, my sleeping hours were anywhere from 2:00-3:00 am to 7:00 am. I knew there was something wrong with me but my doctor could not figure it out or maybe just wasn't listening to my complaints. Finally in December 2006, my doctor's practitioner referred me to a rheumatologist. I wanted to cry when I heard him diagnose me with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. He said how have you been working feeling this much pain. I said, I'm retired and that's the main reason I had to retire. He asked so you are receiving disability retirement. I said no, I am getting regular retirement income. All because my doctor didn't listen or do anything every time I went to see him, which was almost every 2 weeks. Anyways, we are in a fixed income and behind on mortgage and vehicle loans. I have been sewing but there is so much competition that it's been impossible for me to make myself known. One thing about me, I is that I'm too shy. I have been sewing for the community where I live but people don't want to pay for the work I do for them. They think I charge too much and they go on to look for someone else. The thing is that I think that I am one of those people that charges less than anyone else around me. For a regular hem, my charge is $7.00; for hem on jeans is $10 or $15 if customer asks for the "original store-bought hem". Hem on a dress is $10; alterations are no more than & 30; except on shortening and hemming curtains is $20. But, work is so slow and I don't know a lot of people where I live. How can I expand my alterations business as far as clientele?

I understand about your heath i am fighting with doctors now but they do not listen The Other thing one give the price first not afterwards if they do not want to pay let them go because those are the ones that complain my saying is find a Mrs Jones or a Mrs Smith then they will spread the word but do not do the job until they know the price if you can get a cheap shop people really do not like going to people homes also try dry cleaners they might give you work also small shops Ie mens shops they also are always looking for people to do alterations again give them the price first hope that helps

Hi Louise, I started my sewing business 6yrs ago and have been sewing all my life, my name is out there now and has gone from strength to strength, the only thing I struggle with is the pricing, but after watching your video I think I need to put my prices up, I think people will always pay as clothes mean alot to people and are so grateful when their clothes fit perfectly after I,v altered them,. Wishing you all the best.

@louisebastard2091
@louisebastard2091 3 года назад
I had been sew all my life but I had lost my craft shop and had no money and need to make a living so on the market stall I started taking up trousers and before I knew it i was doing more alterations than selling I started and learnt very quickly the best way is unpick slowly to see how it was put together use your phone to take picture so when you have alter the sleeves for example you know how it was put together
