omg....yes! SO perfect for that! For me, after gigging for so many years, driving really far, having to be up really late, singing in smokey clubs, etc...I just really love that I don't have to leave my house! Hair crazy, no makeup, doesn't matter :p
Me tooooo Im good singer but Im soooo shy I wish I could do the Air gigs but I can't use pay pal anymore I had to change my address a lot because pre pandemic used to travel a lot and since I changed my address soo much Paypal locked my funds and banned me ☹ I don't know how to fix it.
Hey.... It's kept me from singing for 40+ years... Thank You !!!! The natural blooper part at the end is LITERALLY the Best I've ever seen on RU-vid Braughhhhhhhhh 👍🇵🇷🗽🎶🎹🎤🎶✌️👍😎🇵🇷🙄🙃🤔😶😶 FACINATING
Loved how you inserted the theme park clip in your video. That was nice. Never thought about doing session work from home. Good idea. Keep singing Audrey!
Shane Thomas haha, thanks! I'm finally getting the hang of and growing to like video editing. And yeah, I'm so glad I stumbled upon session singing! It's way fun :)
This is awesome! I just created an AirGigs profile and I'm going to give this a shot because singing is my passion :) I'm a little overwhelmed in terms of where to start and how to best market myself, but this video is a great jumping off point (so THANK YOU!)
Yay!! You've made the most important first step which is to just start, so congrats! And yes, getting your first few gigs can seem tough, but as long as you're great at what you do, showcase that and really put yourself out there, you should be good 🙌
I really appreciate you making this video. I've never heard of session singing before but it seems like a great Avenue for new artists like me to start getting work. You're awesome!
You're so welcome! It totally changed my life, I just had to share 😍 I wish you all the best breaking into it! Feel free to reach out with any questions along the way 💕
Lol the ending of this video was amazing .. it truly shows the stress of having to just record a video about singing and it was extremely funny. Thank you for keeping that part on .
I wish i could do this!!! But i dont have all the things needed for this!! I need money for my thesis! So ive been looking for singing related jobs online. 😥
Yeah, getting the equipment is definitely the biggest hurdle. You could maybe start in voice over work first? Instead of singing? Lots of singers do voiceover work as well as singing work. You can find a ton of those jobs on places like Fivver or even AirGigs. It's a bit cheaper of an entry.
Audrey, I watched this awesome video months ago and decided to get involved with AirGigs. Since then I've had a few awesome clients and having a great time singing from home. You also kind of inspired me to share the word of how AWESOME AirGigs is on my new RU-vid channel. Keep up your great work!
Ahhh, how exciting!! I can't wait to watch 😍 I just subbed so I don't forget ;) Thanks so much for reaching out and letting me know about your success! I just love hearing stories like that 🙌
i'm a high schooler and would love to earn money on the side with my voice, are these methods safe for me to use and do they require being a professional or knowing like music production or anything lol (cus all ik is how to use audacity to make covers 👀)
I'm so sorry for the delayed reply on this! These methods are completely safe. Everything is monitored via the session singing platforms. You don't need to know music production. All you need to know is how to record your voice and send the files. Your client does all of the vocal production. Hope that helps!
Hi Audrey: I noticed you uploaded this video in December. You were sincerely giving back and approximately one month later you meet Remi, Tara & Jill. Talk about a blessing! (: ~NIP 77~
Wow, that's so crazy. I didn't even think of that! I was pondering how on earth I attracted not 1, but THREE popular RU-vidrs into my life. And then what are the odds that all three of them would shout me out on their channels?! I was sooo tired the night of that competition and was pondering even going! lol I rolled out of bed in a tshirt and jeans and just made it happen and then BOOOOM! So so crazy. I keep a positive mindset about my journey and do affirmations and the whole nine, so I suppose it's all coming back around :p So very very exciting
Hey Audrey, thank you So much for the info on air gigs. I’ve Never heard of it before to be honest with you but I Love singing so much that basically Everyone that’s heard me sing tells me that I should go onto Australian Idol or Canadian Idol or even the voice. I have a couple professional microphones from Temu that I’m Dying to use but the speaker that was lent to me isn’t compatible with my favourite microphone and doesn’t work very good with my dynamic microphone so that hurts. Lol, anyways I’m in Canada and trying to help my boyfriend make money to pay his daughters wedding this Saturday and I saw this and loved and you put me in a better mood than I was prior by it and now I’m going to be singing and recording via my iPhone 7… well, when it’s a bit later than 2:14am here. Love you girl and keep up the good work. I Love your voice btw.
wow thank you for sharing! I'm so happy to hear that you're making strides towards bringing your singing dreams to life. I made this video 8 years ago and session singing is still my main source of income for not only myself, but my husband was able to leave behind his endeavors and join me full-time helping to manage it all and hire new singers to take on the workload. It's a booming industry, so keep it up! I have a $5 guide here that I wrote if you need more detailed and updated instructions on how to succeed in the industry: www.patreon.com/audreycallahan/shop/from-9-to-thrive-ultimate-guide-to-37731?source=storefront
I'm a sound engineer and work in post production but I've got 2 singers coming to my studio doing online work since they can't afford the equipment. We simply split the money. I suggest you to do the same if you've got any connections through local studios or friends and you don't have the equipment at home. You probably couldn't imagine how many friends of yours have recording equipment at home.
Had to revisit this video to say thank you for making it! You're the reason I joined AirGigs back in April, and I've had some great results so far, even though I still have a ways to go :)
What a lovely message to receive! I'm so sorry for the delayed reply 😬 Happy to hear you joined and have had some great results 😍 AirGigs was a game changer for me for sure, happy to spread the word 🤗
this was so helpful i really needed a way to get myself out there because my mom doesn't drive me to auditions for stuff in the city anymore and im kind of stuck with nothing to do but im an aspiring singer, songwriter, and actor and i will go crazy if i cant do something that will help me get to where i want to go thank you thank you thank you so much for sharing this was so helpful
You're so welcome! And heck yeah, there is SO MUCH you can do right from your bedroom to get out there more. I make a full time living right from my home studio and I live on a ranch in the middle of nowhere :p A huge number of singers do just the same. Landing big deals and doing big things without ever leaving their home. You go this! Wishing you much success and by all means, reach out any time :)
First of all I thank you again for your sweetness on taking out some moment from your expensive time to reply me and everyone Audrey. I wanted to earn some money by singing from home as i thought its a free gift god to me. But now i know its not free.. hahaha not even cheap its expensive now to utilize this gift . I cannot afford $300 $100 was last expensive to me. and more than that i cannot even think... No problem ... May ever in future.... Thank you for your help and reply dear Audrey. One last thing! You are an outstanding singer!!! I must say :)
My pleasure Shivava. I've had some really great mentors in my life and know how critical it is to have someone help you when you're just starting out. As far as the cost for the studio, $300 is extremely cheap. You can make that back by just singing one song on Air Gigs. If money is an issue, put your gifts to use to earn the money. You can go out and get some work singing at a bar, or a restaurant, or children's parties etc. Put your gifts to work for you and then save that money and get your studio. You could earn that money in even one gig. Look for an ad on Craigslist for a band looking to hire a lead singer. That's what I did. I had a full time job but spent my nights and weekends singing my butt off all over the city until I had the money that I needed to get my dream studio. You could even sing for free on the street and put out a tip jar. I've done that too, haha. It's all about how hard you're willing to work for the things that you want. You cannot fail until you quit. Don't quit just because of the price tag. Let that price tag motivate you ;)
So I'm kind of a secret singer (I only do it from home when no one's with in ear shot) but I do sing on like karoeke apps and stuff and enjoy doing so immensely. I can sing relatively well but my question is do people look for all kinds of voices? I sound very pop punk when I sing and no matter how hard I try I can't learn vocal runs. Can lay harmonies down fine etc but if you try anything that doesn't suit my voice I sound very mediocre if not less than. So yeah, just basically wondering if people looking only search for a specific type of voice I guess? Thanks for the vid btw, awesome advice
They sure do look for all kinds! I'm well versed in many styles, can create or mimic harmonies, sight-read to a degree, can do runs, have 4+ octaves etc and I get passed up all the time. Every voice has it's own unique thumbprint and the more unique voices out there, the better (especially for people looking to hire). I'd say just have samples that showcase your unique thumbprint. And if a song is not in your key 90% of the time the composer will just change it. I've had that happen many times. I say go for it! You never know ;)
I love your video~~ so much amazing info! and I like the end where you tell your cat to shut up lol Your giving viewers like me great insight into where and how to get started. I am so much older than probably any of your other viewers, but I so greatly appreciate your video too!.
Hey Donnella! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! And that's the beauty of session singing work, you can do it at ANY age ♥️ I just knew I had to tell others about this because it completely revolutionized my life and income. So often singers find themselves "past their prime" and lose hope of ever "making" it with singing. This is such an amazing, non_discriminatory opportunity and outlet for our talents 💜 Wishing you much success! In case you need it, I have a few other videos in the description on the subject. Getting paid, the backend of Air Gigs, what to expect when you're hired, etc 💜
Also i think its capital records but there is a site by them called spinup where you can upload your music onto the record labels website and your music can be looked at by the records talent scouts, its a way for independent artists to submit their unsolocited music to the record company.
Right back atcha chica! And what a pretty voice you have! I listened to "Wishing on a star". You have such great control and beautiful range. You definitely gotta hop on some session singing!
Hey Audrey, I really like your video and I want to learn more about how to do voice/singing gigs too so it really helped hearing your suggestions. I also currently make piano cover songs and I’m trying to figure out how I can find the right audience of singers that might want to collaborate/buy/hire my songs for them to sing over. Do you have any suggestions?
Sorry for the delayed reply! You can put that service on Air Gigs. There's a section for instrumentalists. If you have a website I recommend making a whole page dedicated to just that as well. If you have a fan page you should also create a service on that page and then pay a few bucks to boost that service to a target audience of singers. Singers love having piano versions of covers to do so I feel you could be successful in that realm if marketed properly. Just checked out your channel by the way and you're very good!!! I subbed. I might just use your faithfully paino cover :p What's your policy of use? Just a mention/shout out if someone wants to use what you've posted? Do you have paid versions elsewhere? One idea could be to only post part of the song on RU-vid and people can pay to download the whole thing. Do you happen to have one of "Everybody Hurts by REM?" :p
Thank you so much, this was so helpful. I am 15 and I just started a You Tube channel. I am also thinking of recording original songs. This will help me get me out there. Thank you.
You are so welcome 🤗 And how exciting, congrats on the new channel! There's plenty of room for everyone to have success and achieve their dreams so just keep at it 💜 You have a very pretty voice by the way 😍
How about partnering with one or more singers who need help setting-up or writing AirGigs profiles, or marketing them? You could act as a "manager" and share the fees on an agreed basis.
i am a 28 years old singer and songwriter from usa i am living Detiort mi and how to get paid for my own music .? how to record my own music . how to promorte my music .? thank you for hor video that help me alot .
Hi Audrey Many thanks for your video. I am concentrating in the area of background harmonies though I sing lead and do songwriting as well. I can be found at SoundCloud under Vocal Sky. Thanks and I'm going to give it a go! Cheers! Robert
Thanks Audrey! Actually, I enjoyed your theme park singing! As for me, I sing a lot at karaoke bars, but I wanted to try session singing. And I have done voiceover for years, but I love singing better. After seeing this, I am wondering if the investment in home equipment is worth it, because with all the dressing up, it's certainly better than going out to singing in clubs and events.
Sounds like you have a great head start! I personally enjoy this SO MUCH MORE than when I was doing the night club/cover band scene. More money with less effort and you're singing new songs all the time so it never gets monotonous. I say go for it :)
You are soooooo welcome!! And dude...it totally changed my life....like....for real. Best discovery EVER. Not even just the platform which is amazing, but the whole session singing concept. There's so much opportunity out there in the world for it. Best of luck to you!
I'm not sure how many users are looking for French or Arabic songs, but you never know :) I always say just go for it. Plus, many times, people are hiring singers for demos only. Meaning, the public will never hear the song. They just need someone to demonstrate how the melody will go. In this case, as long as you can sing the English words, even if you have a thick accent, it's ok.
Thank you so much for your advice, Audrey. I am in the process of updating my home studio and thanks to you, I have signed up to Air Gigs. May I ask, do you have any recommendations regarding the backing tracks you use? Thank you!
Congrats! I assume you mean tracks to sing to in order to build up your singing reel? RU-vid has a ton of instrumental tracks often free for use and I also love this site: www.karaoke-version.com/ You can change the key, get it with or without backing vocals, and even change what instruments you want to include in your karaoke track. Pretty neat!
Audrey Callahan Thanks so much, Audrey. I have used Karaoke Version before, so it's good to know I can their songs. All the best with your career and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hey Timothy :) Not sure on suggestions for a tenor male. Just any songs that showcase your voice best would be great :) Ideally a session reel that only highlights the best parts of a few songs would be good.
Great video! Thank you for all the helpful links. How essential is it to have videos on AirGigs ...is it enough to begin with to have audio clips to get booked ?
Absolutely! Whenever I get compliments from prospective clients it's usually about one of the songs I have featured and not my videos so I'm not entirely sure at this point if people are even watching my video 🤷♀️
@@AudreyMusic Interesting observation! I will check out your other videos and begin getting my studio together. And let you know once I am registered on AirGigs. Love your website btw and the versatility of your voice. Overall you come across as very authentic...not surprising considering the books you recommend reading! 😊
You could always try. Most buyers like to know the equipment you're recording on and often have a "minimum quality" requirement that can't be achieved on a phone recording. To get started though, as long as you're transparent about what you're using to record, have samples of you recorded on the device and your pricing reflects the fact that it's not studio quality, you never know!
Thank you so much for making this video! After watching it, I am definitely inspired for the first time to invest in the equipment for a home studio. However, I live in a small apartment in New York City. I don't have a closet I can record inside of or anything. Do you know if it's possible to make this work?
Totally! Google "sound shield" and you'll see these nifty stand alone soundproofing stands that will do the trick if you don't have a dedicated room ;)
Great video! I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled in the comments and didn’t see this question, but maybe I missed it: can you tell us what kind of money we might make on average from a gig? I’m sure it’s all over the ballpark, but just some kind of estimate of what we would make for putting in the time that we would put into this?
Hey there :) Glad you like the video 🙌 You are correct, the pricing is indeed all over the place on the site with some singers charging $50 for a full song with backing harmonies and others charging $800. I'd say charge what you're comfortable with. I charge $230 for a lead track and backing I sell separately for an additional $230. Having said that, I actually make much more off of the site. I keep my pricing low on there to stay competitive with the other singers, but once you build up your portfolio and have a large body of work and reviews, you can start networking and landing your own gigs in addition to what you make on AirGigs. I still love the site to bits though and will always keep my profile up because it's free marketing (you just put up a profile and they do the heavy lifting to market the site). I've been on vacation before and came home to 3 booked gigs without me having to seek out the work or even speak to the person before they book the gig. It's pretty rad! They are also a WONDERFUL company to work with. They truly take care of their service providers.
AUDREY, I LOVE YOUR PRESENTATION! Are you still singing! You are very classy not trying to “look cute” which is very distracting and irritating.. Ok enough of that.. QUESTION CAN I make a little side $$ just singing on RU-vid? I’m in school so I’m on a budget too.. Thanks
Hey Katie! Thanks for the kind words. I am still singing. Full-time in fact :) Session singing ended up going incredibly well and afforded me the ability to sell off my web design company which was previously my main source of income. As for making side money singing on RU-vid, as popular as some of my videos have gotten on here (millions on some), I've still only ever made a couple hundred dollars at most a month via RU-vid. It's lead to some cool opportunities _off_ of youtube that paid well, but to answer your question, it would be tough for me to guarantee you that "singing on youtube will absolutely bring you a side income". There are alot of factors and A LOT of work involved in making a successful RU-vid channel that pays you well. If you're looking to make money singing, I'd recommend the sites I mentioned in this video. AirGigs, SoundBetter, Vocalizr, etc. Best of luck!
Hi Audrey! thanks for sharing this awesome information with us. I was wondering if Christians singers could be hired thru Air gig? Appreciate your response.
Hello! Love your video. I have a professional studio and I didn't even knew about airgigs.com lol! I was on fiverr and i think airgigs are a little more professional. Can you give me some tips for getting people to buy from me? Im a singer and producer. Do you think having a professional studio that is fully equipped will help me a little bit?
I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing this! Did you ever make your way on to AirGigs? I made a tips video to help AirGigs users get more buyers. It's on my channel, let me know if you can't find it ;) And yes, AirGigs is MUCH more professional. I hope it works out well for you
That's the beauty of session singing, you can do it at any age. Even if you're 60. I'm 35 and didn't start doing it until I was 30. As long as you have a marketable voice, you're good!
@@koolz1725 the pay is up to you. Some charge very little, some charge much higher. You can visit the website and take a look at the various singers pricing structures. In general though, from my experience, once you have a solid body of work and connections you can make much more on your own outside of AirGigs. AirGigs is what launched my career though and allowed me to amass a large body of work and reviews. The deals I make on my own plus the deals I land through AirGigs provide a fulltime living for me.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-90hxZrQagAU.html - here's some info on a budget home studio ;) My home studio is here: www.amazon.com/shop/audreymusic
Hey Allison, My prices on AirGigs are cheaper to remain competitive on the platform, but to give you an idea, on airGigs I charge $285 for lead vocals and $285 for backing vocals. This does not include any lyric or melody creation. The amount of time it takes can vary greatly depending on if they need just lead vocals or they need lead plus very heavy backing vocals, complex harmonies, ad libs, etc. So 2 hours on the short end, 5 hours on the long end.
Hi Audrey. Your video is really helpful. I will definitely explore Airgigs now. One question I have is do the composers send music scores to you & then you record your vocal from there? I don't read music, so am wondering if this will be a set back. Any advice? Thanks. 😊
Great to hear Karen! You don't need to be able to sight read. That would certainly get you more opportunities outside of Air Gigs I'm sure, like if you were a member of SAG-AFTRA for example, but on Air Gigs specifically I've never been asked to do so. Every composer has sent me either a scratch vocal (which is usually them or a demo singer singing the song exactly how it should be) or they'll send me a piano guide track where note by note it plays the lead melody so you know what to do.
