Welcome to the Blue Cactus Dairy Goat Ranch! We breed show quality Nigerian Dwarf Goats! We currently have a herd of 26 does and 6 bucks. Our herd is rotationally grazed on our 11 acre homestead in Arizona. We make cheese and soap from the milk we get and we also raise
Kunekune pigs for meat and chickens for meat and eggs. We also keep a large garden year round!
Follow our adventures as we grow our Herd, our Food, and our Family!

Crystal, I just love you! Thank you for the comment back the other day! It truly made my day to know that even though you are so busy you took the time to message me back. Maybe when COVID gets better you can offer your Fans a trip and visit to your ranch! I would love to lay down and just experience the cuteness of all the babies in the baby pen! And to feed a baby a bottle. It would be the best natural endorphin for someone like me with physical disabilities. A natural, God made source of pain relief! Thank you for posting your videos! The cheese cloth that you used is good for the initial pressing and the final pressing. Multiple layers is where the issue is. Too many layers and the cheese try to absorb it into the center.

After the 2nd press I noticed some white dots on the cheese, I think maybe the cloth in the new press might actually be releasing more liquid then the other because it’s thinner, maybe hanging the cheese with the thinner cloth would be a better option. Iv never made cheese before though

@BlueCactusDairyGoats

There are many steps after the rennet coagulates the milk. Those other steps are what make each cheese different. Cutting the curds also allows the whey to release. Have to get the whey out and be left with the curd to make the chees :)

Anyhow, im glad, that your second cheese seems to have gotten it self back together and doing actually fine. Fingers crossed!

I was worried about the cheese! I was crying with you there. Devil cheese cloth may just needs to go. Not a better time to be making your own cheese with everything going on. I know our store runs out a lot. Im hoping to get lucky and get 6 girls next spring. Moving in a month and will be building this fall/winter 🙂

I've been watching your videos for a bit now. I really enjoy your goats and your family. I love your attitude and your attitude towards the farm life. I'm just starting out with goats with the goal being raising, selling, and using dairy and meat goats. I plan to breed lamanchas and boers, hoping to get a good combo of meat and dairy. I want to use the milk for soaps, lotions, cheese, and anything else possible, and of course the meat. I'm curious about it all and have been reading and watching videos about goats. As a newbie, I want to learn as much as possible to ensure a successful business and have less stress. I currently have 2 lamancha bucklings and am looking for some boer females. My boys have scours right now, and I'm struggling with what meds to give them. With so little info on goats, it's difficult. It's so frustrating. I was wondering if you'd be willing to email with me as a sort of mentor if I have questions. Have you made butter with the goat milk? I assume it's done. But again, it's not easy to find stuff. Anyway, y'all are awesome. I love your videos.

Hello! Yes you can make butter from goats milk. The cream doesnt separate as well as cow's milk does though because goats milk is naturally homogenized. So to get a lot of cream you need to have a cream separator. You can email me if you'd like. I try to stay on top of them but.. 🤪 bluecactusgoats@hotmail.com

Do you use the whey for any cooking?

I've honestly never used the whey to cook with. It usually goes to the pigs or chickens. It's great to make Ricotta cheese with too!

Hi from TX. I made Jack cheese today and I too managed to have the curds stick to my butter muslin. Not happy!! But an idea occurred to me...My press is not like yours, yet it is -- in that, I do not have weights either, just have to squeeze until I 'feel' like it is right. Wondering if we are squeezing too tight too quickly and causing the curds to be squished in the muslin. Any thoughts?? Cause those squished curds in the muslin is a real pain to clean!! Obviously, not my first.
