Mullein is a medicinal weed that may be growing somewhere near you. It favors poor soil and grows in many climates. This video will show you how to harvest and dry the leaves into a medicinal tea. Mullein tea has been used in many cultures to help thin and loosen mucus, and you should talk to your doctor before trying this herbal remedy. I made Mullein tea to help relieve Covid symptoms of laryngitis and mucus in my throat. It was very soothing. I hope you find this video useful.

I’m curious why you didn’t just use the mullein leaves in their fresh phase vs drying them?

Thanks for watching the video and adding your question to the comments! It is safe and just as effective to use fresh mullein leaves to make a tea, however, it would take much longer to steep the fresh leaves into a rich tea than it will to steep dried leaves. I needed to steep these dried leaves for 10 minutes before I had a depth of flavor that I was looking for. Steeping fresh mullein for that same amount of time would leave me with very watery tea. I wanted to ensure I had the highest potency and soothing qualities as possible in each glass and so I chose to dry the leaves to leach out every bit of their goodness. Also, I find the flavor of the dried leaves closer to an herbal tea flavor and the fresh leaves are more of a slightly earthy and crisp taste that reminds me of fresh cut grass. I personally find the flavor of the dried mullein tea to be tastier than that of the fresh leaves. I also enjoy having dried mullein kept in an airtight jar for long term storage so it is ready when I need it. I am fortunate that this plant is abundant on my property and I have no trouble finding it in the spring, summer, and fall. By drying the leaves I also can create tea that can be used all year round even after the leaves are hiding under the winter snow. Thanks to my dehydrator this task of drying out the leaves takes just a few hours and creates over 50 servings of mullein tea that is ready for another day. Thanks so much for inquiring! I wonder which flavor of mullein tea you prefer, fresh or dried? Happy foraging!
