I'm so happy I found your video. Nope. Straws are definitely more difficult to use. I was struggling with the wire wrapping with it being cut beforehand. Now you have shown much easier way, especially for those of us who suffer with arthritic fingers. You made my day!
Love your style, Ms. Paula--these are BEAUTIES!!! I use perler beads (discarded from my grandkids' perler making days..LOL) for filler right now till they are used up. And also I found that since I use 'cheaper' wire that I make the end loops double, to be sure they don't break as easily with use. Enjoyed your process so much, thank you for sharing it!
Thanks for demystifying Boho beads - you made it look easy even for those of us with painful joints or arthritis. By the way your hands look quite lovely - sorry they give you issues from time to time but it doesn't seem to deter your creativity. Hugs
Good video for inspiration and super tips, Paula!!! Your boho beads are BEAUTIFUL. I use coffee stirrers that are like the straw-type (the ones I use are "Sip-N-Stir" stirrers) which have a 2mm diameter. Since the diameter is small, I don't need to use beads inside to stabilize the wire. I had to find another option because I don't have any old ball point pens to repurpose. The stirrers are cheap too--a box of 700 for like 3 bucks. I just use more fabric scraps to get the bead to the right size.
Hey there, I must have watched Secret's video 20 times and I take my hat off to you, I just could not get this right! Maybe I will try again once my nails all break LOL. Thanks for sharing, you ARE great at tutorials, you made this look easy! xxx
This is such a great tutorial, Paula! I've been wanting to make these for so long and I have so many scrap pieces of every kind of textile lol😄 So I just made my first boho beads, thanks to you dear!!! 💕 Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how you make yours😍😍😍
Oh, I did use black coffee straws to make mine tho. They are firm, and don't bend easily bc they also have a center piece that basically makes them have 2 small holes. So I didn't have to add the filler beads inside of them. I got a box of them at Wal-Mart for less than $2. The only thing about the coffee straws is that they are much slimmer than the pen casings. So you do have to wrap a little more fabric around them to make them thicker. But they work great!
Oh wow!!! These are awesome. I've been intimidated by them but you made it look easy. Those little beads are seed beads. 😁 Thanks for sharing. Hugs 😘 ~Kelly Weiskopf
Thank you for this tutorial. It makes it seem very doable! I'm excited to try it. I've been watching different videos and love all of yours. I think it was Marina Wilson that suggested balloon wands available at Wal-Mart. I was pretty sure I would be covered in ink if I got too close to the pen innards! Tfs.
Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips with us. I never understood that I needed to have wire long to wrap around the material. I will try this method. It will be an improvement to how I have been making my boho beads
Thank you so much for making this video. Have problems with my hands also. Arthritis, shaking-surgery recently on both hands!! But I love beading so much!! Thank you, thank you! Please make more!!!!
Paula, these are just gorgeous! I love them all! I am sorry that your hands cause you shaking and pain. Thank you for showing the tutorial! Now maybe you will show us what you are going to do with the innards....you know the ink thingy. LOL!
thanks so much for your tutorial..yours is so much easier to understand and follow.,and I know what you mean about the hands.they hurt.I lost the strength in mine,.what about rolled paper to fit insde the tube.?
+Paula Lemmon Please can I ask what the problem is You have with Your hands? I'm asking because I have nerve & tendon damage in My right hand & wrist & I'm right handed. As if that wasn't enough I broke 2 of the metacarpal bones in the back of My right hand a couple of Years back & the pain I get is just excruciating at times. I can't squeeze My tacky glue if it's running low. Forget it, My hand won't work for days if I do. It causes tendonitis & painful swelling & My hands won't even close
I also have carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis in my hands, had surgery on left need it on right. I made jewelry for years but had to stop. I will now make boho beads for my journals. Thanks again for this idea.
+June Bamburg Yes, I'm pretty sure I must have carpal tunnel syndrome. I can't remember though if the Doctor said I have that but He told Me I had to stop making Journals if it's causing these flare ups. I told Him I couldn't stop so He said I have to take breaks if My hands start swelling. I'm so sorry You had to stop jewellery making. I find fiddly stuff like jewellery making is almost impossible as well. Becomes painful very quickly. I like these boho beads too. They're really pretty & unusual.
i have Rheumatoid arthritis ..they swell and get where i cant bend them or put pressure or anything it is very painful i also have it in my ankles and shoulders ..it runs through my body ugh ...im so sorry you are going through that ouch..send my prayers for you..
Paula Lemmon Aw, likewise! I thought that's what it might have been but wasn't sure if You'd had an accident & injured Yourself like Me. I know Arthritis causes total agony especially the kind You have. Both My Parents have it & it's not nice at-all. So sorry for what You're going through too. You can see how much pain You're in when You're trying to close Your fingers around certain things. With Me glue is the worst thing or holding a camera steady but I think that's actually cos I can't stay still! lol
It seems kind of obvious that it is your nails, not just your hands, that are making it so difficult for you. If you didn't have those long and hard nails, you would be better able to pick up small items and use the glue, etc. You have to try to keep the nails out of the way as you pick up the beads. However, the beads you do make are very pretty.
i have rheumatoid arthritis and its very painful at times and cant hold on to things becuz if i put pressure or grip to hard its very painful and my hands swell ..ya my nails might now help out much but ive had nails for 30 years so im use to them..:o)
