Since this kit doesn't use water, adding a preservative is optional! If you'd like to use one so it's easier to store, we recommend using Optiphen at 0.3 to 1 percent of the total weight of your oil-based products in the recipe. Yes I use sugar scrub never tried salt tho the sugar scrub make my body very smooth and bit shining I add olive oil, coffee,body wash
