Hello love bugs!
So if you're like me, you've probably unsuccessfully attempted to make oat milk, and yielded a very slimy concoction. In this video, I've finally ironed out the best tips for making oat milk from scratch that's NOT SLIMY!
Why make oat milk from home? A few reasons. I love buying oat milk as mch as the next person, but sometimes I'm in a pinch while making a recipe or I just don't feel like going to the store. This oat milk recipe is literally ready in less than 3 minutes, there's no soaking required, and it's oil free, nut free, and no gums added. Literally, 2 main ingredients and 2 optional flavor enhancing ingredients.
So I hope you dig this oat milk recipe, you can find the full step by step written instructions on my blog, linked down below! Enjoy, my friends!
Lots of love,
Britt

Can you define "very fine metal strainer" if you don't mind? I have standard metal kitchen strainers like you'd use for draining pasta. Do you think that would work?

I make some muffins with the 'milk' leftover residues. It really is a flexible recipe (makes 8-9 small muffins): 1/2 cup vegan milk 'bran' leftover 1/2 cup flour (if gluten free use 1/4 cup tapioca/corn starch + 1/4 cup fine yellow cornmeal flour [aka polenta like but thinner]/ teff flour) 1/3 cup brown sugar (or demerara) 2 tbsp of melted coconut or olive oil (can also use melted butter or ghee) 2 eggs (I lately use 1 egg + 50 ml of keffir or iogurt) 1 tsp baking powder pinch of salt for flavoring: 1 tsp vanilla/ or cinnamon/ or citrus zest optional: add 2 tbsp of either chocolate chips/ground nuts/raisins/dried fruits Method: mix dry ingredients with a fork, add sugar, add fat and liquid. Mix well until combined. I pour the batter on mini individual silicon muffin mounds and to a 350 F (180 C) oven. Check after 20 m.

If you do soak the oats, soak it in digestive enzymes that includes Amylase. It will convert the starches into sugar and make the oat milk a bit lighter and slightly sweeter.

@vegangelist
@vegangelist 2 года назад
The beauty of using sprouted oats is that you don't need to soak them. They've obviously been soaked to get sprouted. So you don't need the soak, thus you don't need the enzymes. But, with non sprouted oats, yes soak and, yes, use amylase. But don't heat the enzymes more than 100 degrees F.

Hi all, so this recipe is pretty good but I think it also rlly depends on how strong your blender is and how thick/thin your cloth is. I did rolled oats with cold water and 1 date blended in my Vitamix on smoothie mode; I think I may have over blended it 😬 and my cheese cloth did not filter enough. Also, I feel like it tasted a bit bland so next time I might use 2 dates

Did you run the oat milk through the cheesecloth twice without emptying the pulp from the first straining? Mine was a wee bit watery for my taste but it was honestly my very first try - both tasting oat milk and making it.
@melissashipman4340
@melissashipman4340 2 года назад
I used it for my coffee and it was pretty good. I made more today with a few changes - 4 cups of water, 4 dates (because I don’t think much of the sugars get into the liquid), 1/2tsp vanilla. Definitely don’t squeeze…just gently push the liquid up away from the sediment. I’d say the original recipe is like skim milk and with the tweaks it was more like 2% milk.

Hi Britt! Can I use quick cooking oats instead of rolled oats?

I used quick oats cuz they were cheaper in the bulk section...idk if it has to do w the oats or that I used a food processor cuz my blender broke but it just kinda tastes like oat water? And isn’t quite as thick as I want it. It’s not gross tho so I’ll probably try and use it in cooking.

I used quick oats and it wasn’t bad though it was a bit thin

I don’t understand. I do the same thing (except I have a high quality nut milk bag). My oat milk isn’t slimy, but it turns light brown, it separates AND it tastes so watery and not creamy. What am I doing wrong? I taste store bought oat milk and it’s so creamy but home made tastes like watery oats. I know store bought options have oils and additives but...

RU-vidr, Sauce Stache, has a secret ingredient, no slime oat milk recipe. There are quite a few steps, but it's supposedly comparative to Oatly.

Isn’t the idea of soaking the oats to remove any toxins ?

Hi, I really want to try your recipe, but on the webside it says 6 cups of water and in the video you say 5. Which is the right one? 😄
