My granny turns 80 Wednesday and has been requesting an old fashioned caramel cake that her cousin used to make. I excited to make this for her. Thanks
Hi Tracie I came across your channel while looking for a box cake hack and you were making your cake. I am another person that loves almond extract. My Auntie RIP use to make the best coconut cakes from scratch. I used to tell her it had a little something in it I could not pin point it. She told me it was the almond extract. Every since then that is what I use now. I love love love it. Thank you so much for another way to make scratch caramel frosting. The way my mother and grandmother made it we never added the brown sugar and we caramelized the white sugar first. It does take a longer time. I like to try your way. The next time I make it. Thank you so much! I enjoyed your channel and Happy Resurrection Day.❤
Thank you so much for this recipe! Your steps were easy to follow, and I used your cake recipe, too. My 85 year old aunt is the last person in our family who knows how to make caramel icing, so I had to call her and share the great news! The cake and icing were delicious!
The cake looks super divine. You did super good on that cake. This is the caramel cake that I’ve been looking for my entire life. I finally finally found it. Bless you and thank you so much for sharing.
My grandmother use to makes delicious caramel icing. We stopped her from cooking as much about 10 years ago. She'll be 90 this Friday if it is in God's will🎉🎉🎉 She miss cooking and gardening. I'M FIFTY. AND I STILL HAVEN'T MASTER IT😢 I MAY GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY WITH THE GUIDANCE OF YOUR VIDEO. ❤
I made the same cake one time and over the years I wasn’t able to make it because of work or what have you I still work but you certainly took your time and showed people. You were very soft and gentle with your voice. You wasn’t bragging about what you know you’re willing to show people what they can do and I appreciate that you took your time and I think I have confidence enough to make this or at least try with your helpand you went step-by-step frame by frame thank you so much again it was nice talking to your sister or at least a good friend❤
2/10/23: This looks absolutely wonderful, like melted caramel. Just saw the recipe where you made the cake for this frosting, and I cannot wait to try it, and I won't wait for the holidays to make it either. Thank you so much. P.S. I'm newly subscribed to your channel, have shared it with a couple of friends, thumbs up, and I LOVE almond extract and use it a lot in my baking...YUM! 😋
My Grandmother, Mother and Aunts all made this icing. They are mostly gone now with the exception of 2 Aunts who no longer cook o4 bake and no one in the family makes this icing anymore so its nice to see someone still making this Ole fashion icing.
I've had this icing for past 80 years. Always a favorite. I'm going to make carrot raisin chocolate chip muffins today and plan to top it with this icing.
My mother used to make caramel cakes for birthdays and they were always such a special treat and always looked so pretty. I never knew how she made the icing so I’m going to try your recipe.
My mother was from old school. She was born in there early 1900s and when she made caramel she browned her white sugar in the pot first and then added the other ingredients. Maybe that was because she didn't have access to brown sugar, vso she browned her own and it was a delicious icing as I'm sure that this is. I love the added almond flavor because it gives it that kick.😊😊
Brown sugar makes it taste like maple pancake syrup. The idea for this is to taste authentic. You gotta brown that real white sugar. The brown sugar goes on apples.
@@anitaartis9591I agree! Imma learn how to make it and leave the brown sugar out of it. But I’ve seen this one lady brown hers. I just have to learn how to bring it to a thick consistency.
When you make caramel flan it's a latino version of custard 🍮 you brown the sugar then add ingredients so after it's baked u get a brown caramel glaze ppl still do it. Not because it's no brown sugar it's to caramelize it and get the right color brown sugar has been around in her time that's not why . Brown sugar has a different taste than white sugars even carmelized so ppl today still do it
my Nana was born in 1898 and she was a made by profession and made caramel cake quite often she made a very good recipe for red velvet cake in 1923 I still have the recipe as well as her gingerbread and this is very straight on point to her, that she made for her caramel cake. Good job🎉❤
My Great Aunt makes this too and I've always wondered how she does it. Thank you for posting. My 13y/old daugther and I will try this over the weekend. I can't way to try. It looks soooooo goood.
I'm in tears your making this Soo simple love your cake recipe also I'm making this for my sister she just had both of her legs amputated and she's a little depressed and she asked me to make it for her I was a nervous wreck still I watched your video thank you your so wonderful my sister will be very pleased ..I wished you would have shown how to cut the cakes in half to make 2 from one ..thanks again ..God bless...
Oh wow, I’m so sorry to hear of your sister’s health/depression struggles. God bless you and her, and so sweet of you to make this for her. I hope she enjoyed it! 🤗🙏🏽💗

Ms. TRACIE…!!!!! Ma’am!!!! I HATE the flavor of Almond Extract and I almost turned away from this recipe because I was like…”nawwww now…Almond Extract…?” Most times it is just too heavy handed. But Ms. Tracie you have redeemed that flavor of Extract as far as I’m concerned. You ain’t neva lied!! It puts that caramel flavor in order! I’ve made it several times with nothing but straight praises. Thank you. ❤🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. GOD BLess Sis…appreciate you.
Hello ma'am your video was on point I love it because you took your time and you did not try to rush thru it please keep up the great work and GOD BLESS.😇
I will try this for Christmas. The biggest mistake our family made before my grandmother passed 9 years ago, was not getting her caramel icing recipe. The stuff was so good, that she used to let the kids ( and young adults ), scrape the pan with a spoon after she was done frosting the cake. Her icing was perfect caramel looking and not milky, like what you just made. I never saw her use brown sugar though. So I will try yours to see if it comes close to my granny's. Good video.
I love almond extract. I even use a 1/2 tsp in my morning cup of coffee. I live the way your husband was devouring that cake. I hope my husband eats mine that way.❤❤❤
You are not alone in your love for almond extract. I can't get enough of it and put it in pies as well as cake. Almond extract keep you longing for more. Wish ingredients were written so i can print recipe.
hey tracie, I am very happy to watch a video no matter how long when I want to learn something, so for the future most of us wants the instruction over time....am going to give this recipe a try.

Thank you so very much for sharing this! We make 14 layer cakes and I’ve been looking to change our caramel icing and yours by far is one of the simplest ones I’ve watched. It looks creamy not gritty and simple Ingredients no standing there a browning sugar. Definitely will be following you.
I can’t wait to try making your caramel icing….I’ve always been intimidated by it, lol. You make it look so simple. I know it has to be tasty! Thanks ❤
I use almond extract all the time when I get ready to make my white icing for cakes and like birthday cakes and wet angle engagement cakes I don’t do wedding cakes but when I learned that from the Wilton classes and I use that all the time with the vanilla and it turns out so good and I also use meringue powder in the icing also that kicks it up a notch and it is really good!
Yes Lord! That is the smoothest, most beautifully done, from scratch, homemade caramel frosting I have seen in my life. I could literally smell it from here in Ga! So, of course I subscribed immediately!😇😇😇 I will be making this during the holidays (with a yellow cake mix). Thank you so much for posting.
