Details I accidentally glossed over: - You will need the "Obsidian Armor Crafting" mastery (under the astral ward section under SotO masteries) - You may need to buy the "legendary obsidian armor" recipe from Lyhr if you are making it yourself (7th tab on vendor, it's 50 silver) Here is a link to the full text guide for those who prefer it: guildjen.com/legendary-armor-guide-open-world/ Guide to other Legendary Armors: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-51r3X0QWZWs.html Guide to Research Notes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tR-DwB8zUbY.html Guide to Upgrading Rifts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hu5QmvhRzpI.html Guide to Convergences: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xa_og7d1mgQ.html Guide to Parking Alts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UzfOMr0AWFU.html Wiki Page: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Obsidian_armor 0:00 Intro 0:57 What is Tier 1 and Tier 2 2:30 Prov tokens 2:50 Mystic Clovers 3:05 Gift of Condensed Might or Magic 3:35 Gift of Research 4:46 Amalgamated Kryptis Essences 5:24 Eldritch Scroll 5:30 Obsidian Shards 5:50 Cube of Stabilized Dark Energy 6:24 Gift of Stormy Skies 8:55 Arcanum of Astral Armor Guide to Parking Alts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UzfOMr0AWFU.html
One thing that I heard is that Convergences drop a lot more essences than you get from Rift Hunting. Can you confirm this? I've never done Convergences and at this time I'm not sure if I even want to craft these legendary sets because I have no idea what the tier 2 looks like and I already have the legendary armor sets from WvW. It kinda sucks that Anet is keeping the highest tier a secret. The t1 are ok-ish but not something I'm going crazy over and at this point, if I would want to go on this journey at all, it's just for the skins.
I wonder if people who strive for being a completionist would grind out all aspects of this legendary armour to add to their armoury and tell the tale of their ordeal. Hizen excluded.
@@bunbukuchagama346They should change the name from legendary to 'timesink' or 'tedious' armor lol. Still going to do it but that would be more accurate.
personally I see it as a grand adventure, you just gotta not think that you have to complete it quickly

@@kumwagen Agreed. If they were easy to make I wouldn't get that immense dopamine boost when I finish a legendary item. Making them is one optional part of the endgame
I have all 3 sets and the essence grind is the least grindy part. Do weekly convergences and get the 6 hour buff, then grind out your weekly rifts with motivations with the buff active. Join a rift hunt train on top of that if you're looking to knock this shit out more quickly. It's easy if you can afford motivations, even if you can't, doing weeklies already puts you ahead of the grind. For T1 armor, you don't nearly need as much t2/t3 essence as you think than t1. So be prepared to grind t1 rifts a bit more. The real struggle is doing the same 3 (boring) metas for months every day (on top of eating orbs for currencies and doing unsual coin run in skywatch achipelago) and grinding out map comp 3*18 times is also agonizing even with markers, but it's probably more manageable if you're just going for 1 set. I was a little let down at first by the lack of bling, but then I realized I can mix and match the pieces with other normal skins because they're easy to work with for not having shinny effects. I still hope T2 armors shine the living soul out of me though.
"One down 5to go or 17 to go if you are making all three sets. But no one is that crazy right..... Holy f**k.. " This got me. 🤣 Our Lord will always exceed everyone's expectations.
Great video man, I was hesitant before buying the astral ward armors from Lyhr, the achievement says it needs 'heavy' even though I am crafting light. Cheers!
A well made guide! Makes me almost miss making these... almost. 😂 The timestamps was a nice touch. So was the highlighting, I never learned how to do that so would zoom in. 😅 Only things I'd add is that people will need to buy the recipes for all the Gifts of T6 Mats to make Condensed Gifts if they've never made a Leggie beforehand. Also emphasis to NEVER BUY anything from Lyhr (unless you have to) as it just feeds his Ecto gambling habit and empties your pockets of valuable Ectos!! As of this date I have just 3 Amalgamated Kryptis Essence to go to make my final piece of Leggie Armor for a full set of 18. Yes, I am one of those madmen!! 😹
For those fearing the absurd amount of rifts/convergences required to do the whole set, I suggest that you pay attention to the Weekly Rift Hunting and the Weekly Convergences achievements (Achievement tab > SoTo > "Convergences" and "Weekly Rift Hunting"). Completing these will give you some bonus chests such as a "Kryptis Convergence Extraction" chest and a "Kryptis Rift Extraction" chest, which will reduce the amount of Rifts/Convergences you need to do since they contain essences (2 types of essences for rifts, and the 3 types of essences for the convergences). Basically 3 Convergences each week, and 30 rifts (5 per map on 6 different maps) aswell, some of which can be done during the wait for meta events (Auric Basin during this week, so if like me you tend to do the octovine almost everyday, during the ~10 minutes waiting time you can do some rifts). Also I might have missed it, but I'm not sure if you mentioned that a level 500 armor crafter (Tailor, Leatherworker or Armorsmith depending on the wanted armor's weight class) is required ? But I suppose it's the same for the other legendary armors. Anyway, thank you for this great video, good luck everyone for your 18 pieces, and good luck Mukluk for your 17 ones !
To use simple numbers, doing one Convergence every day gets you all of the essence needed for an armor set in 3 months (2 weeks for a single piece). If you only do 3 per week it should take 6 months. This involves ZERO Rift Hunting at all. If you do more Convergences than 1 per day or also do Rift Hunting on top of this you can get it done even faster.
Me. I'm that crazy. Made all three full sets and glad to be done with SoTo (for now.) Anyway, I always enjoy watching these vids to remind me of the journey I went through to make them. Now, back to debating whether I should go for any (or all three) of the teir 2 sets if they look any good.
I spent a good long time swapping armors, salvaging Ascendeds, finally using all my leggie runes, fixing my wardrobe and colors, and I have to say, the ONLY armor set I actually used for its appearance was the medium. The light and heavy I just covered with other skins or outfits.
The materials are fairly light compared to weapons and trinkets. It's basically do the metas and open chests for one half. Do the convergences and rift hunting for the other half. And complete the maps on a couple of characters, which you can do while getting more of the materials you need. Then it's just getting Provisioner tokens and some clovers over time from wherever.
Be careful while crafting essences. Its easy to craft purified essence instead of ordinary, because it requires mystic clovers (which can confuse you into thinking that it is a legendary component - it is not, you need those (for now) only for exotic skins). Again, purified for exotic skins, non purified for legendary armor. Good luck!
The Convergence method is the best 'low-effort' way to farm Kryptis Essences: In ADDITION to the event rewards, there is a WEEKLY repeatable reward for doing 3 of them which totals exactly enough essences to craft 3 amalgs. If you do each convergence DAILY, there is a reward chest that gives you even more. Bottom line: 3+ amalgs for 1.5-2 hours of popular content spread over 3 days every week, and this content rarely fails anymore.
If you're having trouble with the Essences, make sure to get the Rift and Convergence Mastery masteries. The first is the one you get from completing the mastery before getting the one you need to craft Obsidian Armor, and the second is the final one you get in the Inner Nayos mastery track. The former you need anyway, and the latter is a must have if you regularly play Convergences. They are a major source of Essences, and they have several repeatable Achievements that give you even more. Speaking of, Convergences are a great source for fighting Champion level enemies if you need to beat them for your weekly rewards, and the final boss is a Legendary in case you need to beat one of those for an event.
After coming back to the game after years, I got 2 of these pieces in about a week and a half... and those two pieces convinced me to learn to raid to get the other 4 armor slots.
Excellent vid!!... I do plan on crafting all 3 weights of leggy obsidian (eventually) but starting with light armor. I tried raiding, done a few and they're fun but I don't like it enough to grind it for legendary armor. I *BARELY* tolerate wvw for a gift of battle so grinding it for legendary armor would be about as much fun for me as a root canal. as for PVP... I've been playing since headstart and I honestly couldn't tell you what the PVP lobby even looks like. Never been there. SO I was content to have Ascended armor and call it done so I was *very* happy about the introduction of an open world set which is the content I enjoy most.
You don't have to actually do that many raids for the armour. The most annoying part is Gorseval who you have to kill 5 times. (In seperate weeks.) The rest you need to do only once or can use cleared instances. Although getting Cairn's achievement can take a few tries. Everything else can be done without raiding even the Legendary Insights. (Challenge mode strikes)
Raids has no grind, you just clear all the wings one day a week and come back only after a week when there is a reset, so in practice you only need 6 days in 6 weeks rest is time waiting for raids reset
Considering clearing PvP and WvW reward tracks first time is the cheapest way to get your hands on mystic clovers, definitely worth doing atleast until all the first time tracks are done. Look out for future PvP and WvW event weeks to make it fast.
It may feel like a grind to get it but it really isnt since its just doing stuff you'd normally do. Dont rush it just take your time and itll be done before you know it. Some tips though dont use lyhr more then needed, i mean why waste ectos for something you can do yourself. For mapping amnytas use a new character if you got one because then you dont have to wait for events to open up areas to get a lantern. For great hall poi you normally need 5 ppl to start lyhr's chain to open the door but if you use lady e's blish hud map marker add on shows you a path that goes under the island to get it. For the poi where you need to turn off isgarrens ward you can get it easy by going to the door set north of that poi. Once your done with new characters for amnytas and have to light lanterns then save the lyhr event chain one last then after getting it for the completion go to guild hall/relog and you should aone back hin there 90% of the time to get it again to start a fresh run. Haven't tested for skywatch yet if new toon is faster or the lanterns but that map is easy eitherway. Do convergence daily and you'll make about 6 of the amalgamated kryptis things a week and its more fun then rift hunting for hours. Alternatively you could just do the weekly rift hunts the t1,t2,t3 per weekly map (but id still prefer convergence to that) While doing the metas try to get at least 1 greater arcane chest and whatever easy shrine fox thing thats nearby. Like skywatch meta at the end, at the wizard gate theres one shrine nearby then greater arcane in the chest room, then do the other fox shrine on ur way out of the tower to the left. All in all its pretty easy and respects your time. Just switch things around as you complete things. Like i only play about 2-3 hours a day and only used the metas to get the map currency and the meta chest to get the other item. And now that i have enough for 18 sets i dont do those metas anymore which gives me more time to do other things like. Just take your time, no need to burn out trying to complete it in a month lol.
A parking guide to garner things over time toward this would be really appreciated. I'm a returning player, so this probably shouldn't even remotely be my goal given I've completed none of the expansions. But that sounds like the perfect opportunity to accumulate over time while I fill in the rest.
I crafted heavy raid armor (which I enjoyed), but I'm slowly working on medium obsidian now. My timezone and schedule unfortunately makes it no longer viable for me to find consistent raid squads. Much faster/easier (less fun, unfortunately) to jump into a few convergences every week. Props to everyone who crafts more than one set of these though. My mind would probably melt from the metas and lantern lighting.
it really feels like your better off just making ascended gear, and multiple copies. Would be neat if someone did a video comparing whether it's better to do Ascended gear or just do legendary gear. i would imagine the legendary gear would realistically only be worth doing if you have more than two characters you wish to fully equip that share the same stuff. For example, right now i'm enjoying the Necromancer and the Ranger. While i also like the Mesmur and the Theif i don't normally play them except "meme builds." Necromancer uses Staff Scepter and Focus/Torch. Ranger uses Longbow and Axe/Axe. i can get ascended jewelry from Fractals and other sources. Making legendary gear may not be worth my time unless i'm completely bored.
Is it just me or is this kinda nuts if you want 6 pieces (i.e. a matching set of skins)? Why do we need to map complete maps 6x for this? FFS... so I have to play through these things multiple times just to get a piece of armor?
Lhyr charging 10 ectos for everything is kinda funny because that makes me think his Facet of Emotion has a gambling problem, or the Facet of Logic is trying to do drop research on the ecto gambling methods, or both
Honestly... the biggest hurdle (for me at least) is the 3600+ ectos required to craft the Kryptis Essences and Mystic Clovers *(I refuse to feed Lhyr's addiction lol). Still... I am working on set 2 already, so it's not that much of an obstacle I suppose
Loved the video (and the asides) but the soundtrack had my heart racing with anticipatory dread. I don't know if I will ever start the legendary journey now...
Me, reading the ingredient list and remembering that I salvaged the rift hunter armor 😱 Me, replaying the story episode, not getting the armor agan, finding out that it's in a WvW reward track 😫 Me, realizing that it's only an achievement that is needed and I don't have to spend time in WvW 😅
oh man, i understand this is all for hardcore long term players and all. But man every time i watch one of these guides i feel like i'm running in place. I play for several hours a day for a couple months now after a multi-year break and even ascended gear feels like a major investment meanwhile people out there salvaging it like it's nothing. crazy crazy lol
I love the idea behind having more ways of unlocking legendary armor, but I really do wish ANet would start getting rid of all these overcomplicated currencies, materials and crafting systems. In my opinion it would do the game a huge favour of slowly but surely reworking all of these into more simple and easy to understand currencies. I am a player since Guild Wars 1, and whenever I return to GW2 for a while I just instantly get overwhelmed. Sadly, I am not overwhelmed by the amount of new stuff to do, but by the amount of different new currencies introduced to the game.
This will never happen because their goal has always been to complicate everything so that the player will have to buy gold for gems from the Item shop. When you compare GW 2 to the business model of mobile games, everything becomes clear ☠️
I understand what you say, however I don't fully support that argument. Other games also have cosmetic stores and make a lot of money with them, but they don't need to frustrate players with overcomplicated currencies. Also, you can't even throw money at your screen in the case of GW2 and unlock everything that way. An example would be some of the time-gated currencies or achievements linked to some legendaries. IDK, in my opinion all this does is frustrate new and returning players, and I don't see why a frustrated player would be extra willing to spend money on gems compared to someone who is having fun playing.@@RU-vidChillZone
Raids armor is easier, but will probably take longer due to the longer time gate for the LI. This is one is basically grind grind grind, everyday. For the record I created the medium obsidian set even though I already have the full raid set just because I want the skin. There were times when I was grinding too much I was almost falling asleep while doing the Convergences. I'm just glad its over now, oh wait I've already started working on the T2 Obsidian Armor 😂
As a novice, casual PvE player. I've made two legendary things so far (aurora & a rune - for the relic). This doesn't seem like nearly as much work now that I'm familiar with the basic process. But I still can't imagine just having enough gold/mats lying around to do a whole set.. or THREE Thanks for the video!
same...gold is always the bane of my existence in this game. kinda feels like the only people who realistically are making thousands are people who dump hundreds of dollars into buying stuff such as bank/craft storage expansions and all that. ive been doing t4 fractals and strikes, which makes me SOME money, but it ends up taking all of my energy/time to do that, i cant imagine doing other things
Ive made 1 leg weapon and it was painful the thought of getting a full set of armor is just beyond me. They really should make this easier to make IMO.
@@corvuscorax9028 At the very least make it more transparent in-game on how to make them, where the materials drop, sure you can use the wiki but it becomes a lot of back and forth. Also getting the legendaries will be fun to do in GW3 if everyone has to do it all over again :P
Time to go to sites like Guild Wars 2 Glob of Ectoplasm Calculator by Zweistein that tells you what price of Rares to buy to salvage for Ectoplasms. It's a gamble but it's sometimes a cheaper option.
So, everyone seems to gloss over the tiers of Obsidian Leggy armor specifics. Will you have to go through tier 1 to get to tier 2 or will you be able to make teir 2 directly? I want to have to avoid building 2 or more sets of medium leggy armor to get the features that I want; as does everyone. TY 🙂
debating if I wanna go for this or the envoy armor (heavy) which looks 10x better but id have to learn raids whereas this seems solo-able, its a gamble on whether the rest of the tiers for these armors will actually look good or not.
It's ridiculous how expensive they made the OW legos. I don't do PvE much but I'd rather spend time on raids than doing this, they look better and are waaaay cheaper D: haha (I get mine through PvP and WvW)
Can someone explain me this? We train traits and specializations with hero points. So we get the effects of everything we train for. SO WTF BUILD DOES? I choose 3 traits and then choose again which power ups I get from these 3? And lose all other traits effects? If not and I have all the effects from the traits I trained for wtf is the point to build and choose? If I do lose effects WHY TF bother giving hero points to everything?
The most onerous part to me so far has been ectos. I've got basically everything else I need but have only got enough ectos for like 3 amalgamated essences (i salvage every piece of rare or exotic i get with silver fed salvageomatic)... Anyone with tips on getting them faster?
Lets put different ingredients for PvE armor from different maps and events of the open world to revitalize the content! No, lets put the same event on the 6 different maps and make the farm them for eternity to complete just one set! P.S. and make the items account bound, so you cant just skip it a little with gold.
The 250 luck stack is a joke... I play since release and I'm just doing the spvp armor... well that's the mode I play the most since it's the one I don't need to keep up with meta in. Just click the queue, enjoy the profit. Winning or losing doesn't matter, the lower rank you are the faster you will find a match :)
I have a problem.. you see my original goal was to caft 1 set in at least 3 months time because of the amount of grind needed.. so my problem is, that I cannot stop myself once I started. I got my full heavy set in 27 days of grinding... and now I am almost done with the light set in almost the same amount of time as the heavy 😅
I was planning on doing all the pieces until i realized how many rifts i would need to do. 3000 of the red kryptis essence for each piece. With the convergence and motivation buff you get a little over 50 per t1. That's 60 almost 60 t1 rifts. Smell that? Smells like a MMO grind.
Come join us crazies in WvW, it's a bit of a grind too, but everyday is different and you don't need research notes. Did I mention I hate research notes? 😂
The grind isn't that bad, just do convergence daily no need to rift hunt for hours. You'll make about 6 amalgamated kryptis just from convergence a week. It's by far the easiest mmo grind I've done. Just take your time with it, the grind only turns to burn out if you try to finish it as fast as possible.
@@karabean Research notes aren't too bad. I typically do them with cheap mithril jewelry. There's definitely a wrong way to do it which is the problem.
Completing a convergence with the mastery bonuses and choosing the red essence from the choice chest got me about 300 essence per convergence, plus getting the bonus items from the repeatable quests in convergences can add more. My highest was about 500 red essences from one convergence. I followed some weekly rift hunting but only focused on the maps where I haven't done the 3 tiers of rifts yet for the achievement. Took me about 2 weeks of not super intense play, I didn't rift hunt or do a convergence every night, to get enough for a piece. It's a grind sure, but it's not too bad, the worst part is all of the might and magic materials for me
