“The biggest concern for any organisation should be when their most passionate people become quiet” (it's where most of us are in our jobs)

This is so true... and that is why many leave OR, even worse, they stay to a slow death... it is imperative for growth to allow a space where people can just speak without judgement, only to actively be listened to makes the bond closer ❤

It’s heartbreaking to see or feel. Some of us forget that it’s not our company or you’re stuck with a horrible boss. Some things can’t be fixed though. Life’s lessons. Feeling heard for the sake of it is pretty rough isn’t it?

@@clairevessot9576 To many, feeling heard, having that superior engaging in that active listening, is the first step to actually find out and see the following: 1- what your superior's response is to what you shared. 2- what your superior's actions will related to what you shared 3- with points 1 and 2, you will soon find if you should continue or the time has come to elope fearlessly!! 4- It prepares you for your next step and catapults you to higher level!! Your question unvailed something key for such interaction to be fruutful for BOTH sides. That is understanding AND applying the following differences: 1- hearing vs listening are two different things with different results. 2- Understanding communication: a) Is it common for both parties? b) is there the action to understand each other and make common positive chamged? Food for thought if you ask me!

I have to share that I used this approach this afternoon during what could have been a difficult conversation with my son and it worked great. It was probably one of the best and most productive conversations we had in a while. 💛 This was definitely a very useful and helpful clip; which for me came at the perfect time.😊 The more we know the more we grow.🙌
@kitsura
@kitsura Год назад
@@Goldenheart2911The problem with most parents is that the assume they know everything (they don't) but sometimes their children are able to point out their blindspots. Similarly, a senior employee thinks he is all-knowing and there is nothing a junior can teach him (again hubris). The most frightening thing is that all humans have an ego. If you tell them something that challenges their viewpoint, even and especially if it is true (which is what Simon mentioned in this video), there will be a strong emotional response. The fight or flight reaction then kicks in and nothing is gained from that interaction.

@@kitsura Good Morning kitsura there is a lot of truth packed into your comment; which is why learning these skills is essential. Being able to keep an open mind, seeing the value in others perspectives, being an active listener, learning to respond and not react and speaking in a respectful and calm manner are all essential life skills that if people were willing to learn, implement and apply in their daily lives and interactions our relationships would improve dramatically on every level. 💛 Healthy communication is essential for any healthy relationship to grow and thrive in. Most breakdowns in relationships occur, because people don't know how to talk with one another, fear rejection and abandonment, lack boundaries and continue to operate at an immature space and place regardless of their age; which is unfortunate on many levels.💛 Thankfully I am a parent and person that continues to want to learn and deepen my relationship with myself and others. Since my children were very young I have always felt that they have taught me so much and had so much insight to offer. As they get older and they point out things about me that I may not be able to see on my own I really appreciate and respect their feedback. By listening to them with an open heart and mind and providing them with a safe place to respectfully speak their mind they continue to help me to grow into the mom that I want to and they need me to be.💛 From a higher up perspective in the work place learning to set boundaries, speak in a calm, respectful and informed manner and being open to hearing both sides is extremely helpful to both higher ups and team members. Taking the time to get to know others and how they are wired is extremely helpful in the work environment and really all aspects of life as well. I had a very positive and productive conversation with my boss yesterday which could have gone the other way, but it didn't. I am very fortunate that through my healing and learning to operate from a more balanced and less reactive place the positive ripple effects continue to be felt throughout my office as well. 💛 Kitsura, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. They have really helped me to further reflect on and appreciate the value of this clip.💛 The fight or flight response is something I dealt with for to many years in my life. It leads to anxiety, depression, fear, doubt, rumination, stress and unhealthy coping mechanisms and is rooted in the need to feel in control. ✨ By accepting and recognizing that the only thing we can control in life is ourselves it allows us to take our power back instead of allowing situations or others have power over us.💛 The more we learn to be genuine, authentic and vulnerable with ourselves and others they happier, healthier and more balanced and stable our relationships can become.💛 By taking one day at a time and allowing ourselves to see the bigger picture we can continue to all learn a lot from one another.🙌 Wishing you a lifetime full of success, health and happiness Kitsura.😊 My hope is that through continued education and a willingness by others to learn and grow their life skills instead of their wallets, bank accounts, bottom line and need to be right all the time that the world will begin to come together instead of continuing to move further apart. 🌏♥️✨🕊️😊 We may not be able to change the world, but we can be the change we want to see in the world and for today that is enough.💛 God bless🙏

Its crazy but I've never watched this video and I've been doing everything he says in this video with my team. I think its important to treat people "under" you as you want to be treated if you were in their shoes. We all want to be seen we all want to be heard fully and respected for our opinion whether the person listening agrees or not is not as important as them respecting you regardless of their own opinion.

I think it is important to understand as a leader you should want perspectives from others. To many leaders don't want to hear from others. In this environment everyone including the business will stay stagnant or shrink. Growth is a made up word in the culture and not a reality

The concept you describe fits well with people who are humanitarians and are called light workers. It takes a lot of patience, listening skills and understanding to be one. The beauty of the job is to get to see the people in their environment, learning about their circumstances. Some nonprofit agencies allow their employees to have teas get to know the people they serve and others have more strict policies where you can’t take any offered foods or beverages. Many people specifically from other countries feel insulted when their hospitality is rejected. Being new to this country they have a difficult time understanding as why people can’t share food with one another? And take it as an insult. Many actually spend hours and hours cooking home made food prior visiting them. You do learn a lot by paying a visit as who they are, costumes, beliefs and who they are as a person.

Unfortunately most places have bosses that are yes men and want only yes men. You don't want someone who causes disruption in the organization but you also need to be aware that you don't know everything and you need your people to give you an honest assessment of things. I could never understand the yes man type of organizations.

I’ve seen quit a few really talented tradesmen leave an arrogant boss , just because they needed to be heard. It cost the business a lot of money to try to find replacements.

There's an old saying There is a reason God gave you 2 ears and 1 mouth. Listening is twice as important as talking. I can say something all day, if no one is listening, it's all for naught. The best idea will not become reality, simply because no one was listening when the idea was presented.

it comes across to me as just making them feel heard as opposed to actually listening to them. coz to me, the only way they will feel heard is if you actually listen, AND let them know you listened by telling them exactly what you got from what they said. NOT what THEY SAID, but what YOU GOT from what they said. they won't feel heard if you don't show them you heard them. show, not tell.

My previous bosses could have learnt from this but they all think they know more than someone with 35+ years experience. So want to type their email addresses. UK Government jobs suck big time. Identified human and illegal travel but they know better. Look at the state of UK Visas. A joke. All about empire building and not the country first. They just want Chinese students and officials to gets visas for a huge financial profit. Oh and they get financial bonuses for doing so. I could write a book.
