Why don’t u continue to post video? U are a great teacher!!! Keep posting video please 🙌🙌 If I understand correctly we should macerate for 6 weeks before using the extract ? If yes, why 6 weeks? Why not less or more? After extracting the maceration, do you check the « ph »/ need to adjust the ph of the extract? Can you confirm that the formula is 80% glycerine and 20% water for the maceration? So if u use 50 grams of dried botanical plant => I should use 80% of 50g for glycerine and 20% of 50g for water ? Why do we have to use « glycerine » for the maceration for skincare? Can’t we use only « water » for the maceration? In one of your comment you said to use in a serum « 10% of different botanical extract » ? If yes, it’s 5 botanicals of 2% => why only 10% max of different botanical extract for one serum? It’s this rule the same for « toner »? In one of your video, I see « calendula oil » => is it possible to do it in extract : glycerine & water?

You should understand very important difference between ingredients-it is 2 kind of ingredients-oil soluble and water soluble.Any oil is oil soluble and you cant mix oil and water without help of emulsifier.To learn to work with emulsifier you should learn a bit more.Or you can spend months in your artisan laboratory trying to mix emulsion which is stable .

Yes,its time you need to extract all beneficial ingredients in to glycerin!Regarding colour-its diffcult to keep colour for plant extracts but some of them keep colour but experiment with PH levels -some times PH jhelps to keep colour for longer.Any changes in PH can lead to colour degradation as well as direct light.

How you preserve plant extract to avoid degradation
@AtlantisSkincare
@AtlantisSkincare 2 года назад
Presentation do not preventdegradation of extract-all natural ingredients degrade after soem time.Preservation prevents growth of bacteria and moulds in product.With glycerine extracts you do not need preservation as nothing grows in glycerine,but if you delute glycerine with distilled water (or deionised one)you cant go under ration 60:40 glycerin :water.I stick to 80:20.Better to use dry herbs as you contorl mosture levels.If you use fresh fruits-test end result to see if preservation needed.

Hi, super helpful video. At what percentages do you use your extracts in your formulations? And how do you label it in INCI? Simply ''horsetail extract'' I assume.
@AtlantisSkincare
@AtlantisSkincare 8 лет назад
I add approximately 20 % water to glycerine.When I am doing safety assessment they ask you how much plant material you used in grams and how much glycerine/water you used,so its good idea to weight them before putting in jar.Also your call it horsetail extract,and your safety assessor will do calculations for you!Good luck!
@NaturalRose
@NaturalRose 8 лет назад
Atlantis Skincare Thank you. So would that be a 80/20 glycerine to water mix? I read somewhere that 5g of plant material per 100g of liquid is a general guideline. Is it possible to combine a number of herbs in one liquid? And still list them in INCI as seperate extracts. This will save me time. Look forward to your reply. Thanks alot.
@AtlantisSkincare
@AtlantisSkincare 8 лет назад
Yes,ratio is 80/20.I wouldn’t recommend mix plants as you can use single plant extract for different purposes-for example you can take extracts orally for example-please carefully read all possible information of course.Or add to different creams.Also remember glycerine is water soluble so you can use extracts in emulsions or toners.

HI,NaturalRose!yes you can combine plants but weight them before placing in jar,so you know proportions for your INCI list later!I would not follow very precise guidelines-its more about your gut feeling!your intuition is always right:)so follow it!

In decoction you use water and boil your plant material in water where in glycerin you don't have high temperatures-everything happens in room temperature and over long period of time-in this way you don't loose any temperature sensitive plant components.Also decoction end product should be preserved where glycerin based products if they are not dissolved with water are self preserving.
