This is how I make plywood with a pattern. You can create many different patterns, but this chevron pattern is one of the easiest to start with. But even though it is a simple pattern, there are many options to vary this by cutting into thin and wide pieces before gluing for the second time.
You also don't need to use expensive plywood to do this, I often think the cheap ones make better results as you often get more difference in the pattern. But if you want a cleaner design then you should use more expensive plywood, preferably with more and thinner layers.
