This is how I made my round plywood coasters with chevron pattern. All you need is plywood, a saw (preferably a table saw), glue and sandpaper.
There are many patterns you can create with plywood, the chevron pattern is one of the simplest. But even if it is a simple pattern you can create many different patterns. I chose 45 degrees, but you can make it in other degrees too. You can also do as I did with these and vary the size of the different cuts to vary the pattern.
I treated these with a countertop oil thus making them food safe. But you will not eat from these so you can use whatever you want. Varnish is probably a better choice in relation to moisture from the glasses.

Thx for inspiration. Just one remark. Cutting disc has to be set much lower as far as I know. It is dangerous going like this. Look for some tutorials about table saw.

This is a nice project. Your safety concerns me. You had a wobbly table saw (bad) and your hands and fingers were way too close to the cutting blade (very bad). It is very important for you to show the utmost in safety as people see this and replicate. If you aren't cautious enough in your video, others certainly won't be. Other than all that, your pieces turned out very nice. Thanks!

Thank you for liking this, and thank you for thinking about my safety. Fortunately, everything has gone well so far and I have become better at thinking about safety and I have made an update on my table saw so that it is much more stable now. A video of this will be coming soon.

Nice woodworking project. It scares me up the way that you sliced the piece. Your hands are too close to the riving blade. See minute 15.

I did absolutely. What kind of plywood did you use? I’m trying to something like this myself, but the plywood I have access to is all junk. I can’t get Baltic birch around where I live and I hear that is the best stuff to use

I use the cheapest plywood boards I find where I live. These are slabs that are intended to be used as formwork for masonry. The reason I use these is because they are cheap and have many layers. I think these are made of several varieties of wood, but for these it does not matter as I think it gives them a more interesting pattern. So if I were you I would find the cheapest plywood boards with many layers. Since you only use the edge of the plywood boards, the plywood boards do not have to have a nice surface, so you can use cheap boards for this type of project.

Nice product but, but I cringe at the lack of basic safety. No blade guard. Hands too close. Blade set about two fingers too high. Cutoffs squeezed between the blade and fence waiting to rocket out. Reaching into the blade with a plastic stick. Dude, be more careful so you can have more 10 finger videos. ✌🏻
