Hi everyone! I found an even better source for these high quality drawer glides: www.ikea.com/us/en/p/maximera-drawer-low-white-50265663/ . Now you can save even more by buying only what you need!

Thanks for the follow-up Info. to a very well thought out video. I have an IKEA kitchen and ended up here after watching your other video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kh01Z8Dg4Lk.html&app=desktop) when I searched for how to remove IKEA drawer fronts. The link for the 36” wide low MAXIMERA drawer (the nice Blum slow close sliders are included, $66): www.ikea.com/us/en/p/maximera-drawer-low-white-90265661/ and coordinating 36” UTRUSTA hidden drawer front ($21): www.ikea.com/us/en/p/utrusta-drawer-front-low-00265627/ The link in the pinned comment is for a 15” wide 24” deep drawer at $30. The nominal measurements of these parts refer to the IKEA SEKTION cabinet frames that they fit in (actual measurements are a little smaller and are listed in the links).
@az.................
@az................. Год назад
The slides are sold as spares, just look up the part numbers in the assembly document. However the whole drawer is sold as a 30" or 36" kit in both 15" and 24" depths. Drawer fronts intended for for inner drawers are sold in 3.875", 6.5", and 8.375" heights in addition to the usual drawers meant for externally visible drawers. Some combo of the pre-drilled holes should allow you to mount an inner drawer pretty close to the bottom of the cabinet.

This is a clever idea. Love it. Just a thought… wouldn’t it be cheaper to buy the wood to make a drawer and the slides?
@jasongarringer12
@jasongarringer12 3 года назад
So, for me, I don’t always look at cost only. Sometimes I do. But I’m most cases, I try to balance other criteria. For this project, I wanted some high quality slides, and these slides from this old cabinet usually cost a lot more, compared to the cheap ones at the big box stores.

Awfully EXPENSIVE method. All you got was the DRAWER SLIDES ($15.00-ish?) and still didn't have a BACK. Build the drawer and slides...and voila....done.

I actually didn’t know that the drawer slides could be purchased separately until someone in the community sent me the link. 👍 www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30265659/ The slides are $30-45 depending on the size. Since the cabinet I bought from IKEA’s discount section came with 4 pairs of slides, it ended up being a pretty good deal. Especially since I used the cabinet box as a tool stand in my garage. I actually got to repurpose the entire cabinet!😆

@lisao3041

Cool enough hack but the dado for the drawer slide just turned this project into something not possible for 95% of the population. I'd just get a drawer that approximately fit the width of my cabinet and attach a 1 x 2 on each side with pocket screws to base of cabinet in order to attach glides and be done with it. You could even do two drawers of different sizes in order to maximize the space underneath. Good inspiration and gave me a couple ideas.

@jasongarringer12
@jasongarringer12 3 года назад
IKEA, as far as I know, doesn’t give a guide, and drawer removal from the rails isn’t intuitive, unfortunately. I’ve found that if you lift the drawer as you’re extending it, you will feel it release from the rail partially. Then, with a little wiggling, it will come off. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!!

how did you shorten the drawer, my ikea drawers go all the way to the back and leave no room for the drawer front...?
@jasongarringer12
@jasongarringer12 5 лет назад
Because of the way IKEA designs the drawer glides, there’s no way to modify them (no way to shorten them.) you will need to buy shorter glides and let your drawer bottom extend out the back a little bit.
@kiminseattle3476
@kiminseattle3476 5 лет назад
Instead of pay over $100 for whole thing, shouldn't we just buy the slider parts?
@jasongarringer12
@jasongarringer12 5 лет назад
These slider parts alone are available for purchase, but I found out later that purchasing these sliders separately would cost about as much as buying this clearance item. (My item came with 4 sets of sliders.) Plus, I was needing the cabinet box, too, for my shop, so that was a bonus for my needs. I think if you only need 1 set of sliders, it may be cheaper. Just make sure you don’t buy cheap sliders. The cheap ones don’t extend fully, and would not be ideal for this type of project. (When you’re pulling out from a lower cabinet, you need it to extend all the way out, not half way like the cheapest sliders.) Here’s a link to the proper sliders: www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30265659/
@VelvetCrone
@VelvetCrone 2 года назад
so- the hardest part is figuring out the size to cut the plywood base since if you get it wrong the glides malfunction. what method did you use?
@jasongarringer12
@jasongarringer12 2 года назад
Each of the glides that I used were 1/2 inch thick. Two glides equals 1 inch. Therefore, I measured the width of the cabinet opening, and subtracted 1 inch. In this case the total width of my drawer Equals the width of the opening -1 inch
@VelvetCrone
@VelvetCrone 2 года назад
@@jasongarringer12 I asked the question too soon. The bottom mount. Perfect! I also love the double sided tape! Thanks!
@jasongarringer12
@jasongarringer12 2 года назад
You may also want to account for any cabinet door hinges that could impair the drawer from sliding in and out. But basically you will measure the thickness of your drawer glides, and subtract that number from the total drawer opening. You may also want to subtract an extra 1/8 of an inch to provide a little extra clearance.

If I’m not mistaken at ikea if you go into the store the sliders are sold on the shelves but there not in the ikea book that comes in the mail .Also maybe home Depo might sell them.I haven’t seen the side pieces that hold on the front face of the drawer sold anywhere
@jasongarringer12
@jasongarringer12 6 лет назад

It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better ru-vid.comUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

Lots of people. Besides it’s not about how many people do it, it’s just about showing people how to do something different.

Me, this video is a lifesaver, I have the drawers but need a drawer front that is 20 inches high. The ikea drawer fronts are at the tallest 15 inches. I was this close to throwing the whole damn project out the window then I found this video. It costs $0.00 to not be a jerk to someone that took time out of there day to help another person, even if it’s just one.
