Because of the current economic climate, many of us have to save money where possible. This is a fantastic idea, well done.

i just put things in dryer in the 10 minute cycle to release wrinkles. I also think always have a nice finishing edge no wrinkle so yea iron or put into dryer. also it helps to have a laptop with a webcam to film instead of using one hand with a phone. in any case you did a nice job. when you wash the curtains tho the slits will fray. so i suggest getting fray check form a fabric store and put that over the raw edges of the slits you made. and pres the pleats i suppose pother wise just run the rod thru the hem and skip the pleats. nice job tho for those who dont want to spend a fortune on curtains. you might like to try sewing or use stitch witchery to place flowerettes on the curtains like the daisy's or any flower of white that comes on a roll. to make them not so dark. gray is a dark color.

I came across this video while looking to make a cheap table cover. I have done this but for shower curtains! I used a tension shower rod. I only cut a vertical line on each side on "the back" only. I slipped the rod in and put it up. The whole $5 rod was covered and the $10 shower curtain was from ceiling to floor!!! 96" long! it was beautiful!

Like the idea of the slits, gives a nice uniform like pleat to the curtain. Nice job, will have to try this.

Nice and great idea, but just a suggestion...? No need to make slits every 6 inches, just one at each end & run the rod thru. Also, if you have a sewing machine run a horizontal line of stitch approx. half way down from the top edge, along the whole width of the sheet, and make the cuts below that (the 2nd space down is where the rod will go thru). This creates a small gathered ruffle or 'valance' along the top, making it look even more like an actual curtain. It would take some of the length away too if they are too long.

Tape around the slits with fabric tape or wash by hand or the slits will fray and come apart when washed. Just gather on the rod instead as an option. Add curtain tape to the back for another option and there are different types of curtain tape depending on the type of rod you have or want to use.

I've actually washed them a few times and luckily haven't had any issue with fraying where the cuts are. I think because it is a poly/cotton blend fabric.

Why wouldn't you just buy the roll of cotton material at Walmart? Gives you far more options for looks.

Do to cost. For 9 foot patio doors that wide you would need to do 4 panels since cotton fabric is about 44" wide so with seam allowances you'd need 15 yards and at the cheapest price of $3 a yard that is $45. So less options = saving $35.
