Hey this is IMPORTANT for everyone who's making this! Rachel forgot to mention that if you are using plain flour instead of self-rising flour you NEED to add 1/2 tsp baking powder! Otherwise the cake will NOT rise! :D
This was the first cake in a mug recipe I ever watched and made. I loved it from the very beginning. I’ve made a few different recipes over the years and none come up to par with this one. This is the one and only recipe I will use for the rest of my life. 💕 THANKS RACHEL. 💕☕️
I'd love to see you do a series of all different mug cakes! I've been trying to find the perfect mug cake recipe and it would be amazing if you could do a series on them. You could make all different flavors and varieties.

I made it yesterday. So easy and good. It tasted more like a red velvet brownie to me but it was still really good; moist and cakey. Love that this recipe has ingredients that I always have in my house so I didn't have to go the store to get anything.
When I made this, I also added 1 tsp vinegar to make it a more traditional red velvet cake, but I felt it didn't make much of a difference. Generally, vinegar in red velvet cakes is to help the cake rise with the aid of baking soda and some think it gives the cake a slightly "tangy" taste. But since this recipe is such a small portion and doesn't use baking soda (and still rises nicely), I decided to omit it in the video. Feel free to add it just for fun if you like though like I did haha :-) Hope this helps!
Adrie Anne Originally, Red Velvet desserts were made with Beet Juice but nowadays people use Red Food Coloring. I wonder if the Beet juice made it taste kinda bitter or something. Also, the color red has a psychological affect on our brains, making the food seem much tastier than it is.
This mug cake is delicious ! But i will like to give a tip wich is putting some cream chese inside of the center of the mix and push It down and cover It with the mix before it goes to the microwave . the cream chese will melt inside of the mug cake and It will taste so much better !

Just made this due to a sweet craving. I absolutely love it! This will come in handy when I'm living in the dorms this year. Last year I was too lazy to go make a cake in the kitchen. Now I have a way to do it in my room XD
I made the cake and added 1/4 tsp baking powder and it came out great even though I forgot to grease the bowl. I made it in a nice mug first, but it didn't say microwave safe, so I switched to a bowl and completely forgot to grease! It still came out delicious!
Giovanni Mirelli actually red velvet is a red cake as a base with cinnamon as the main flavour so this is just a red chocolate cake, good recipe though
Nabihah Bari uhhhh idk what red velvet cake you've been eating but cinnamon is not a main ingredient. Giovanni is right, a traditional red velvet is a mildly chocolate red cake.
girl i just made it, its currently 1:05 am and I am a happy girl. Its so good. Although i just kept it regular chocolate ( i didn't add the dye) and i topped it with a little nutella. I was too lazy to make frosting.

Don't make this. I made this 3 times already and it didn't work. From all the 3 tries, all the mug cakes felt like rubber and weren't like the video. It smelled and tasted bad too.
I made this for my parents as it was their anniversary, and they luved it😍 Than I made one for myself and it was so satisfying! Especially the frosting. So good!
Thanks for the recipe I just made it right now but I used a bit less food coloring and 2 tablespoons of butter instead of oil and it came out great! Thanks again
I tried these today and I quite like this recipe! The cake is nice and fluffy and stays pretty moist. For my microwave, it took about two minutes for it to completely cook. 👍
Oh Rachel I had to comment here, I've just tried this recipe and i must say that was the most amazing mugcake I've ever, ever had for real. All the mugcakes I made before were terrible, uncooked or too cooked , but always with that "kitchen sponge to wash the dishes" texture, like hard but bouncy and chewy, not good at all. This was as you said, almost like a piece of a spongy smooth heavenly cake or cupcake. very hard to do and cook, I think the recipe was too much in amount for me to eat the entire thing but I don't regret skipping this day of dieting! lol It was amazing, just try!
