In January 1957, I was born premature and weighed 3lb was as big as a milk bottle. They wrapped me in kitchen foil, put me under 100watt light bulb. They gave me neat rosehip syrup and milk. I’m now 5’8” and hit 64. Never had flu in my life and only ever had about 3 colds. Going to try this and the cordial in 2021. 🙏🏻

You are truly Mother Nature advocates 💚 Foraging is an amazing experience connecting us with the earth. Then we have lots of fun in the kitchen making wonderful food with ingredients straight from mother nature's shop 🙂🌹💟
Just gone and got a load of rosehips. My aunty, dad and mum are in their 80's and 90's now, I'm going to make this for them to take them back to their childhood for a moment. Thank you, I will check out the rest of your videos xx
Hi guys. Thank you for the recipe. I tried it using brown sugar and it was awesome in taste and dark in color. I used a lemon too. By the way I didn't chop end bits off as I didn't have patience to do each bud so I used a wooden mallet to squish them🙂. Again thank you so much
What a beautiful way to think of it, in the dead of winter you still have captured the essence of summer. We are about to make ours having collected a huge amount of hips in hedgerows in the north of Scotland, we are going to follow your process and not the overly complex ones others suggest. Well done, nice to see you both enjoyed making the video.
@@homeiswhereourheartis Thanks for the tips, we picked far too many and ended up giving some to neighbours and family. I will try again next year but need to make it less 'runny'.
I made some rose petal syrup from some bright pink rose petals. To say that it has the taste of Turkish Delight would be an understatement. I tend to blend it with rum or vodka, but I guess it is to each their own...! 😎👍
Thankyou fot this great video. I just harvested my rosehips and am ready to go after watching this. Aren't roses amazing plants! . . .they just keep on giving!
Glad to help 😁 If your unsure of anything this video shows you all you need to know about them 🙂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aGefsf7LCn4.html

I am so pleased with this video, I am new to your channel. Honestly, it is rich with information. I didn't know about the itchy hairs. I am thankful for watching this first, actually also the previous video. Now to the cordial video. I guess I will find out what a cordial is too!😊
Thank you so much for sharing this, Iam today making my first rose hip syrup I usually tend to eat from the bush, but you can’t give to kids because them oddly hair inside. This syrup will be handy this winter. I done lots of your recipe all the stuff is good and really works. God bless you and family ❤. Love from Brasil 🇧🇷 ❤
Loads of rose hips beside us, gonna make this and the oil, just gotta freeze the love overnight 🤣will get cracking tomorrow, thank you ❤️absolutely love your channel as do my kids xx
could this recipe be canned to keep on the shelf for later use? Just foraged some wild rosehips this past weekend, rinsed them and they are in the freezer to make a tincture and wanted to find a recipe for syrup as well. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. You are truly a delight to watch. Beautiful family. Blessings
Just managed to forage some yesterday in a 'wild' urban area, and so many people were curious. One person stopped to check we werent eating them because he thought they were poisonous, or that something poisonous looked like it. Im not sure of any plant that has similar rosehip type berries that are not edible. Im wondering if people were told that as kids because you cant eat them straight from the bush and it was easier to explain or something? Such a shame that they are missing out! Going to follow this recipe and give the syrup a try 😊
Thank you both for a great channel and great recipes and foraging tips I'm looking forward to getting your book 😁 PS in this recipe for rosehip Syrup can I use an alternative to white sugar please?
This is amazing!!! Thank you! You two are so soothing to listen to. Quick question - I have a dog rose that produces rosehips as early as July and as late as September. Do I simply leave the rosehips on my plant and wait until closer to frost or my last pruning to harvest all of them or can I harvest earlier in the summer and keep them in the fridge or freezer while waiting for the later season hips to emerge?
Hi guys, I just made my own rosehip concoction and I didn't have a muslin cloth so silly me passed it through a sieve. I'm now suffering the hair irritation in my throat any remedy to help get them up or down?
When making this rosehip syrup how many cups of dryed rosehips do I use? And how many cups of water I want to make a quart of it and how much sugar please?
@@homeiswhereourheartis i use salvia to make syrup when chuldren have laringitis. You boil water and pud salvia in it for about 20min, and add same quantity of honey as you have tea, and give to them to drink a little bit through the day
Nice video. Can you tell me why you top & tail the hips? I've seen many videos about rose hip recipes & most say to top & tail the hips, but haven't found any that say why to do that rather than just leave the tops & tails on. Would sure save a LOT of time & effort plus waste less of the hips.
Hi I wonder if you could advise me. I had a go at making syrup for the first time recently. After picking I had to go away so left the hips in the freezer for a couple of weeks. I didn’t use lemon and blended the hips before boiling. As they were boiling they had what I’d describe as a fishy smell, sadly this transferred to the syrup. I wonder if I’d left them for too long in the freezer or if blending them was the problem. Any advice from anyone or reasons why this should happen would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the vid, just about to make the syrup after a week of -24 Celsius, so the rosehips should be ready for picking! Just one thing and sorry for being a moaner, please don't tilt your head back so much.... LOL
Lovely syrup but its worth bearing in mind that Vitamin C, aka ascorbic acid, is not heat tolerant. It breaks down over 90°. So while you get a yummy syrup out at the end, and while rosehips have tons of Vit C in naturally, after all that boiling and heating there will be no Vitamin C left afterwards. Its the same with Potatoes! Loads of Vit C when raw but none when cooked.
Can anyone tell me I'm just after making some , poured in after sterilising the jars , then what ? Do I let it cool at room temperature with the lid off , or do I put the lid on while it's hot or what's the process bo one seems to have a simple answer for me or one at all
Seems like you boil them waaay too long. Vitamin C if fragile against heat. Simmering for 5 minutes at lowest heat is what I’ve learned…… and a LOT of good vitamins are lost through steam. I always cover.
