Thank you Javier! I agree, plenty of “armchair quarterbacks” commenting on videos. Oh well, I’m not doing it for them anyway.

Outstanding. Have one question. How many coats of polyurethane did you put on? Looks like just one. Is that correct?

some hints on size of wood would be good to know. what is the thin side wood?
@AModernMaker
@AModernMaker 6 лет назад
I left that out because it might vary based on the crate you want to make. It’s all 1/4” thick and 1 1/2” wide.

Thank you so much for your video. Curious, what wood are you using? Are you ripping down 2x4's, or 1x2's? Or pine board?

I think your crates loo great! But i'm not too sure the glue will hold very well when you put it on top of stain? Just wondering, maybe just the brad nails are all you need.

I like the crates, but on a safety note I don't run a router upside down like that anymore. Not since April 14 of 06. Hands way too close to the Router.

Thanks +edwh164 I haven't done it since either. I'm in the process of building a router lift for my table saw extension wing.

Those are the cutest crates I've ever seen. But, the polyurethane. I used it on an old cabinet under the sink once. I painted it white first, then the polyurethane. At first it looked good, then gradually it turned yellow (like dried urine). Do you ever have that problem?
@AModernMaker
@AModernMaker 7 лет назад
+horsebetter7 I️ know exactly what you’re talking about. I️t has happened but I’m not sure if I️t was because it was exposed to a lot of sunlight or not. Or if I️t was because I️t was light-colored. Other than that I️ haven’t had any issues.

why stress the wood like that, Use pallet wood lightly sanded then using wire wool vinegar and water in a jar for a few days painted on the wood, it ages great then apply a dark wood polish if you want to get a really old look or just leave it plain.
@AModernMaker
@AModernMaker 7 лет назад
+52memor I've done that too. Wanted more variety and wanted to try something new.

so besides red,white, blue,and black and white paint to get that "rustic" look, besides vinegar and steel wool what else was in that jar? a little slower and maybe some actual words explanation would have been nice?
@workshoponwheels4936
@workshoponwheels4936 7 лет назад
patrick mcglone The jar only says vinegar and steel wool. And by the brownish color that it gives. There is nothing else needed for the color. I don't know why you think there is another ingredient?
@AModernMaker
@AModernMaker 7 лет назад
+patrick mcglone Workshop on Wheels is correct, it was only vinegar and steel wool. I usually date the jar as well to know how long it has been sitting because that will change the color.

nice job but you need to learn about finishing techniques. Much better results to mix up your own stains rather than using expensive shop bought products which do not suit the wood you are using and look too fake.
