Strong wind is the biggest culprit, so it really depends. I had mine outside for about 2 years and then we had a massive wind storm and broke what it was hanging on. It was the fall the broke it.

Oh no, I am so sorry that glue didn't work for you, it worked just fine for me. I wonder if it has to do with the climate. I live in a dry/dessert area, do you live in a humid area?

Yes and yes! The chime holds up great outdoors unless it gets super windy. I am always bring mine inside when the wind starts blowing. The E6000 glue works great and holds up really well too.
does that glue hold up well from heat/sunlight? I made a seashell wreath once and the full sun on the front of the house melted the glue that I had used (glue gun)
