I'm making smoked paprika and smoked chipotle powder today. Smoking, dehydrating, and grinding my garden peppers for this, was worth every minute. I absolutely love this stuff!

I guess I grew some "not-apenos", too. Some of my jalapenos had no heat. Just some, not all. BTW, I don't know why I keep watching you. You keep making me want to do more cool things, but I don't know if I'll ever get to do them! I have a long list of things that I'm not doing now.

I got to do this, this year. I didn't realize that about Paprika. I got that same grinder. Great idea to use peppers. I need to get me a new dehydrator though.

I've been using this approach to make paprika for at least 10 years and it works well. Here's a couple of tips: First, don't bother grinding your smoke and dehydrated peppers if you have an excess. Store them in a vacuum-sealed container and then grind them when you need more. Second, "caking" is always an issue, especially if your peppers have not been adequately de-hydrated. Even then, you might get some caking. To mitigate this, try de-hydrating your powder before putting it into a container. Of course, you must have a dehydrator than can work on powders.

You are a hard working gardening Momma! That canner going in the background and that pepper grinding action in the foreground. It looks awesome. Yeah... you have to crowd the dehydrator sometimes! Great job Sara.

Great idea and great video! An FYI: a red (ripe) jalapeño is called an huachinango. A chipotle is a smoked, dried, ripe (red) jalapeño. To make chipotle you smoke the peppers until they are dry. So you would not have to dehydrate them. Hope this makes sense.

We have not tried to make anything smoked besides ribs. Interesting..we might need to give this a try. We powdered our Thai peppers last year so we probably won't need to grow them this year. Thank you for sharing!
