Thank you for stopping by! I'm an organic gardener in South Carolina, zone 7B. I love to share how I use organic methods to grow my own vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. With multiple garden areas, and many ways to grow food, I have a lot to share. I love preserving my harvests in old fashioned ways. Canning, dehydrating, infusions, and more! Come along with me as I enjoy my garden! Happy Growing!!!
I know this is an old video, but ... 1. What size jar are you using? Quarts? (quart =1/4 tsp citric acid? ) 2. When you moved the jars around, you were a little vague as to what filled jars got which treatment. I was watching close and got confused when you were moving the three jars around. Thanks in advance for any clarifications.
This is a pretty good video, BUT, suddenly at 9:18 we are doing the middle jar here with boiling water, but you did not say what the middle jar IS? What is this jar to be filled with?? Balsamic Vinegar or Apple Cider? And you never mentioned a Rosemary/Chives combination until this point either, terribly confusing. Thank you for the video though.
In my past I dont care how many times I squished, cut , It never made a difference, what did get rid of them is spraying every day with soap water. I tried diatomacous earth. That didnt work, I think for the first time, I got rid of the cucumber beetles and squash bugs.
I got 876 vintage jars (1900-1970), in 3 jar hauls (average was $4 per case). 37 cases were terribly dirty, with old food stuck to them. Your method worked well for the jars you got, but it would NOT have worked on these. I made my own brush, and scrubbed them with hot water and Dawn. All the jars came out exceptionally clean, but I'm also going to soak them in vinegar now, after being washed.
New canner here. Enjoyed your video and canned my first jars of cherry tomatoes yesterday. I pranked them tight, debubbled and left a one inch headspace. They all sealed but a few tomatoes are partially above the water line. Are these safe?
Glass is the least temperamental material and can be cleaned with any chemical. Only soil particles can scratch it. The vinegar doesn't do anything at this homeopathic dilution. Sodium hydroxide in bleach reacts with the hands, which causes the slime. Bleach does work highly diluted. If there is calcium carbonate or rust, I'd put the jar in a small pot with citric acid.
I just watched a lady ferment/pickle cherry tomatoes. What she did was poke about 5 holes into each tomato with a tooth pick. Let them stand in the vinegar, water and herbs for about a week before eating them.
Squash bugs hate water. If you water the plants heavily, the bugs will jump up on the leaves where you can grab them, throw them down, and squash them while they're stunned. Chasing the eggs is also necessary. Good video.
@ The Big Blue House Homestead …..I always wondered how you could get seeds from them thank you so much. Can you tear off each mini cabbage & it’s root and plant them in the garden?
Okay, so I just spread a pound of hot chili powder over a section of my garden because either a loose dog or cat has been using it to potty. I'm glad it won't hurt the other plants. I'm sore about this loose animal because I rely on disability and there's not much wriggle room for seeds and seedlings. The chili powder was past due and relatively cheap and my pepper plants were still fruiting into the frost.
Wow, that's amazing!! Thank you for an amazing video..I didn't know you could do that with store bought cabbage. For me it is a “blinding glimpse of the obvious”. Thank you again and Greetings from Greenville, NC.
You are right about growing them. They are fun to grow and their flowers are so pretty. This is my first year growing them and they have been producing a LOT! Try them with toasted Sesame oil, in addition to the butter and soy sauce, for a real Asian flair. Yum! You could also add Oyster Sauce or Fish Sauce or both (toasted Sesame oil and Fish Sauce). These flavors go really well together.
Bought some at the Farmers Market yesterday and after watching your video made these immediately. They were absolutely delicious. I wish I'd bought more. Thanks for a great recipe!
Hi just subscribed to u. Glad found this. So I try following your step. My question is if I decide to put my canning pickles in fridge then how long to consume this. I saw 1 video says 2weeks only. I hope it could last up to a month. Thank u
Treat it like it was fresh produce. If it's not in vinegar, it will go bad within 8 to 12 days. Pickled veggies can last up to 6 months in a fridge, in my experience
I recently saw someone comment on how they keep deer out of their garden. Place a fishing line boarder around your garden on stakes about two feet high. Deer will not jump what they can’t see and when they feel the resistance from the line they won’t proceed. I have never tried this, but it might be worth a shot.
I thought they were stink bugs 😭 I have so many adults, I browsed through the comments but I didn’t see this. Why don’t we cut the leafs off on some ? I accidentally grew pumpkins this year so I don’t know what I’m doing
It’s too bad the plants haven’t developed some form of natural defense against these bastards! I’ve kept my plants clean, growing vertical as best as I can and these bastards show up again this year but much much earlier than last season. I tried neem spray last year and it did nothing for the adults
I tried it and it works. No deer or rabbits came around no more but ... considering my yard is small we dont even want to be around due to the smell so we had to stop the eggs. But the bottles still stand so far so good . Thank you
So I'm assuming, you can brake those four heads off. And put them in separate pots to let them get bigger separately?. Love this vedio. Thanks for your teaching
Thank you for the valuable info you shared! My problem with deer was finally solved when I bought the Sonic Fortress Pro from Zero Deer. Awesome product and sincere recommendations for whoever is dealing with deer!
