There should be a requirement that businesses have a purple dumpster marked REUSE where things are placed that can be taken and donated or reused properly….. They also should be placed on all college campuses in the spring for dorm clean-outs which are notorious for sending tons of items that are reusable straight to our landfills….. I’ve seen this waste and it is so sad. ❤️🌞🙏

I like how he used multiple examples when talking about the different jobs and organizations we will need to implement this circular economy! I'm ready!

What an incredible idea! It really is unbelievable that perfectly good items would be sent to landfill, when they have a huge carbon cost to make and are otherwise in perfect working order. Donating these items to start ups or community projects is such a good idea. We hope your initiative continues to gain success Garry!

The tepid applause was damning to the TED audience. This is the hard work we need to do. Get on it, elites!

Highly useful. Circular usefulness. Thanks. In the spirit of McGyver, like my son in law.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:03 Cities generate a significant amount of waste and greenhouse gas emissions due to a linear economy. 01:36 Transitioning to a circular economy, where resources are reused and repurposed, can reduce emissions and create jobs. 04:42 Digital platforms can connect organizations and individuals to facilitate the exchange and reuse of materials and products. 08:53 Building operational capacity for recycling, remanufacturing, and repair is crucial for sustaining circular economies. 10:53 Smart public policy can incentivize participation in circular economic models. 11:23 Building 1,000 circular cities by 2040 could significantly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to meeting climate targets.

To conserve natural resources, we must learn to take immediate measures to ensure our environment is always at its utmost prime. Recycling and reusing wastes have made drastic changes as to how everything cycles in this world. Somehow we’ve committed ourselves to thinking that there’s hope in situations where you may find yourselves losing every bit of restored faith.

Nature shows that nothing perishes and it only transforms from one form to another. We must learn from nature how best to live ,adapt and re-adapt for ultimate sustainability.

None of this is new. See ReUse stores and Goodwill. Lots of wood shops selling repurposed wood for "rustic" styling. The elephant in the room is that these resold products aren't priced competitively because of the operational margins, unfortunately. Would love to figure that out. Work camps for prisoners?

This already existed in cities decades ago. Unfortunatelly, it became cheaper to buy anything new than to repair it. And with that, if you are expecting companies to give stuff away that costed money or that they spent money to get, you are out of touch with reality.

When he says I flew in from Chicago, does he mean I’ve flew in from Chicago or is that American for I travelled to Chicago, but not via blame, because that would’ve been entirely irresponsible, given the subject matter of the talk

We have the use the system we have to create change. If we all could just stay at home and the problems would be fixed I guarantee you a lot of us would. This is a very counter productive statement to criticize unless you know there was a better way. This guy has offset tons of carbon and ghg.
