Today I'm showing How To Make Sweet Bean Sauce Quickly (Chinese Name is 甜面酱(tian mian jiang), also called sweet flour sauce) . In fact, this sauce is very easy to make and does not need to ferment for 20 or 30 minutes.It also can be used for dipping green Chinese onion, cucumber, roast duck like the Peking Duck. But we also provide other ways to use this sauce to the delicious noodles. Hope you like it.

Ingredients
300 ml water
1½ tablespoons light soy sauce
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons flour

Hi! Thank you! I’ve been looking for sauce recipe to make jian Bing at home. I’ll use this one. Any other ideas/suggestions for jianbing sauce?

Hi, Junina. You can use our method to cook the jianbing sauce. But you should change the ingredients. It is about 10g flour, 100g water, 1 tablespoon light soy sacue, 1/2 tablespoon dark soy sauce, 1 tablespoon oyster soy sauce, 20g sugar. You can change the ratio according to your flavour.

Here in the USA we have a Mexican Restaurant called "Shorty's" in Hooksett, New Hampshire. They have a side bean dish that is not on the menu but you can ask for it. It's called "River City Beans" and it is red kidney beans in a red sauce that is sweet and a little spicy. I have been looking for a similar recipe for many months. I think this may be the sauce I am looking for. Thank you for posting this and sharing with us. I will let you know if this will do for my "River City Beans" home-made recipe. Lee

Is this the same recipe of tianmianjiang that is used with jianbing, shouzhuabing and kaolengmian? Can I use it as it is for jianbing or shouzhuabing or do I need to make any changes to the recipe?

Yes, it can be used with jianbing, shouzhuabing and kaolengmian. If you like other materials, you add it into this sauce.

Hi,e welcome. This is common if you put it into the fridge. You should cover the preservative film to store it. When you want to use it again, you can heat it to make it become the colloidal type again. It can't be store long time becuase we don't use any preservative for it. It's best to eat it in two or three days. If you still have any problems, please let me know.

It became Sweet Bean jelly after having it in the fridge for a few hours. I am not sure if I done this correctly because you cannot use it to dip at all. My Zha Jiang mian (for which I needed the sauce) I did with a mixture of this one and hoisin. The final product didn't taste anything like this so I will probably go for hoisin sauce

If you put it into the fridge before, you should heat it before you use it.

It is easy to change the usage of sugar to use for Peking pork if you think it too sweet for you. We use 1 tablespoon sugar on this sauce. I think you can use 1/4 tablespoon sugar or less for your sauce.

Just use soy sauce, the dark soy sauce is used to increase the dark color and salt taste. You can add more salt to keep the taste.

Is this sauce the SAME THING as sweet bean PASTE? I want to make a pork recipe that says its the same taste as peking duck and it needs sweet bean PASTE. Is this the same but more liquid??

Yes, it is plain flour. But tapioca flour is unfit for any sauce.

No tapioca, corn starch, potato flour are all starch flour and will will make gummy slime sauce, you need wheat flour 💝 hence why it is know as sweet wheat sauce xoxo

Hi, Sweet bean sauce (tián miàn jiàng, 甜面酱) is a thick, dark brown condiment and seasoning made from wheat flour, sugar, salt, and sometimes fermented soybeans. As the name suggests, the sauce is sweet, though it’s also salty and adds umami to dishes.

I follow your receipe but mine the color of the sauce become brown color and not red as your sauce. Whats the secret.

My sauce is also closed to brown color. It depends on the type of light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce. Those sauce will effect the color of the sauce. Never mind.

Not, the beans is in the soy sauce which made of bean. I think the right name is sweet flour paste.

@@EddyLiuIsm I think it is not a good idea to do that. There are many different between the two sauce. Generally speaking, Hoisin sauce always used to cook seafood or fresh meat that can suppress fishy and improve freshness. But Oyster Sauce can be used any dish that need to add salt taste into. Like mix noodles, vegetables, meat, fish stew, soup. Sweet Bean Sauce always is used for dipping green Chinese onion, cucumber, roast duck like the Peking Duck. Or used to delicious noodles. That's why I don't recommend you use the hoisin sauce for this recipe.
