Im dumb, sorry, just checked the content. I want a linnstrument so much, its crazy, a world of manipulable sound at your fingertips :O aftertouch just isnt enough
@@LaidBackApophis if you dont want to break the bank try the Exquis, it's an MPE midi controller with hex grid layout, isomorphic like linn except linn is square grid instead of hex. however, the same idea remains - note relationships to each other are THE SAME ACROSS THE ENTIRE DEVICE meaning if you learn the shape of a minor or major third or fifth, its that SAME FINGER PLACEMENT no matter what root note you start with.
@@AntonProducerI really appreciate you using vital even though I mostly use Phaseplant and Europa Because I know that I can basically always recreate the sound on my synths. With the more complex serum sounds I always feel like something is missing when I try to recreate it, but not the case for vital.
Man this is amazing, its rare to find videos that go in depth with Aphex Twins music with clear and concise explanations. Lots of tutorials chalk his music up to being random or just throw in a bunch of drums and pads, but you have the skill to break down the intricacies of how the synthesizer is used and how to produce that natural analogue feel, Your awesome thank you!
This. This is how you do an instructional video. No bullshit, no three minute intro, no exaggerated cartoon voice, no jumpy logos. Just straight into the goods. My guy packed 45 minutes worth of info into a 5 minute vid.
Yeah, but there's no context for the stuff he's showing you ... Dude needs to give us a finished example of what he made once it was all put together. It's kind of ridiculous actually. 😂
the context is he's shown you how to recreate specific sounds and fx from some of aphex's most famous tracks, that's what the timestamps are. it doesn't need a thing showing 'here's what was made' because those tracks already exist@@Fiveash-Art
@@pipefx64 ... na .. With no context it's meaningless ... my bet is no one will put any of this info into practice. Besides tweaking with a few plugins it really doesn't show much of anything practical. 'The Time Stamps' .. uh, yeah, ok, whatever. How bout I just go listen to Aphex Twin instead. 👍🏻
the context is aphex twin??? if youve listened to allot of aphex twin you will hear that these are litterally sounds that show up in that all the time @@Fiveash-Art
@@SocialGoreYou are wrong. A music producer can be a person who; writes, composes, arranges and does all the sound design. You are thinking of a different kind of producer.
@@SungazerDNB No, people started using it that way because hip hop beat makers didn't know the difference. If you write, it's a writing credit. If you engineer, it's an engineering credit. There is a literal definition of a music producer. You're out of your element.
hey you are REALLY special, video is head and shoulders above the competition and your taste in aphex sounds is great btw. and i like your linnstrument.
Aphex the goat, love how you replicated some sounds off the Analords bro, Phonatacid best track out of the whole series! His sound on that EP collection is so skeletal yet so charming! Rich can make a synth sing
Brother I have always wondered how he made the Fenix Funk 5 bass. It’s so nasty. Any ideas? I’ve been making music for 16 years and have tried many times but have failed. It sounds so vocal it makes me wonder if a vocoder was used
@@AntonProducer I mess about with groveboxes (the usual Elektron, Roland, Novation, and Korg over the years) and plugins (distortion, bitcrusher etc). Very informative analysis of early Aphex. I have seen people do most of the 90s classic electronic artists but never the sound of Kenny Larkin on Metaphor or Carl Craig on Landcruising if you fancy doing those some time?
Your channel is an absolute gem and I'm so glad I came across it. The way you can give so much knowledge, tips and inspiration is insane and I hope more people will discover your vidoes. Thanks a lot and good luck!
I know right. Total over engineering. Aphex Twin was working within the limitations of 90s gear and Metasynth for mac. He didn't have all of these modern DAW tools. So his sound comes organically from his recording process.
For this vid we worked within the limitations of a FREE plugin.. Of course it won’t sound exactly the same but you can apply concepts to your musical style
Bro, the way you gave that information was amazing. Concise and to the point. Don’t stop. It’s great to see BPOC producers on RU-vid teaching Music and sound design techniques. Well done. I look forward to seeing more.
I am deeply impressed. Videos about music and production often times feel esoteric. You not only create great sounds, but actually explain the creation process in a very calm and logical way.
I’ve been trying to make a bass synth similar to the one in come to daddy where it almost sounds percussive almost like playing a bass guitar and I can’t figure out how to get a sound like that.
i never watch these types of vids but becuz it's afx i thought i'd check it out, and i love that you did some analord tracks! redlof is one of my fave tracks from him, super underrated!
Thank you, my friend! I was particularly interested in the pitch drift trick. Short, informative and very good practical advice. I'm just going to put it into practice right away. Like and Subscribe!
Fantastic video! You got my sub for sure. Quick, useful, to the point. Listening in the car and I’m gonna watch again and follow along when I get home!
crazy good video man. also thank you for not quibbling over the specifics and terms of your chosen synth engine. I feel so confident about translating this to phaseplant for my own purposes 👍
If you wanna be like aphex-twin you need to create sounds, not recreate them. If you follow tutorials and use the tools suggested to you, you will always be a carbon copy of somebody else.
On the one hand, it's amazing to see such a wise youngling studying from ancient masters and all. On the other hand, the tiktok chainsaw editing is harsh on my decaying old brain :D Great video. A further tip is to totally bollox up the levels on your mastering run. There's a couple of tracks on Ambient Works 1 with overloads that make it all that way through cassette duplication......honestly, if you find a cassette version and fire it up on a deck with meters, you will see that at least 2 tracks just sit with the +6dB light on......I can only assume that the mastering and dupe engineers had a manic R.D. James yacking at them the whole time LOL
Great overview, swift and precise, sounding nice. Was actually looking for program change tips to emulate the afx mode on the bass station2 , but this is are equally useful sound design tips. 👾
